    From RMS

    • Loads that project more than 1.2m behind a trailer must have a red flag attached to the end of the load. This flag must be at least 300 mm square and clearly visible. To avoid having an overhanging load, you should purchase a trailer that suitably contains the load

https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/safety-rules/road-rules/towing.html#:~:text=Loading trailers,-It is important&text=A load must not project,mm square and clearly visible.

So if you have a flag on the back, then you are ok from an over hang point of view.

I have a Bright Red / Orange flag which sits on my outboard propeller as when tilted up it falls into the above category, so it was provided by the dealer to meet regulations.

  2. Jordy has the main items covered, I bought all the kids headlight torches, Bunnings had them on special 250 lumen for $5 and I also have a Makita work light around the fishing tackle / Bait and food.

The glow sticks is a great idea as it allows you to see where hooks and tackle are and when they are flying through the air.

If you have more than two kids under 12 then forget about fishing yourself, between baiting, untangling and getting food you wont have time, unless you put a big hook on and a whole pilchard and get it out first and leave it in the rod holder.

Have fun, I have 3 kids and my fishing is limited to what they do, so much so I don't bother much myself when they are around, its less frustrating if I just plan kids fishing rather than planning a fishing trip for myself with kids, if that make sense.

p.s its also more enjoyable and they grow up way to fast.

Disconnected from motor and it swings freely.

Does the motor swing freely or does the cable move freely when disconnected.

if the motor swings freely I would just replace the cable as it’s a pain to free up the cable and they go stiff again in 6mths if not done right.

  4. jump starter is mainly if you don't have two reliable batteries, so  just a single battery system.

If the batteries are in good condition, I start mine on the 1+2 setting as it charges battery one fully then charges battery two, when I pull up to fish / lunch I switch to battery 2.

Then back to battery 1+2 for the run home.

  5. I drained 60ltrs from my boat over a 3 week period and used it in my wife's car in 20ltr batches (20ltrs of 16mth old premium fuel added to 45ltrs of fresh premium)

It smell like fuel and didn't have any oil or contaminates and her car didn't mind, so I guess it was fine, just didn't want to risk it on the water, lots easier to call NRMA and walk home than have to swim ashore.

Start it at home before you go

Put the battery on charge before you go

Remember the bungs and life jackets

Take a jump starter with you

    check you've got enough fuel

Take it out for a run!

as above, just make sure you take the ear muffs off after starting it at home.

Take a mate and don't go to far from the ramp, just up and down the river first, then do a few faster passes and a little further,  and when back at the wharf turn it off and try starting again while hot and after 15mins.

If all goes well your away.

Was wild to hear my friend who made a small plywood boat with an old 5hp was taking the thing out in the harbour.

Growing up on the Parra river, I had my first boat at 10yr (8ft Dinghy) with a 6hp, my brother and I would often venture up the harbour with the odd trip to Clifton gardens, sure was fun when a ferry came past, boat used to go twice as fast down the wash.

The great thing with a small boat is you can avoid the main channels and hug close to the wharfs and shoreline and the worst part is near the harbour bridge as it can be like a washing machine. Once past there you can skip into Taronga zoo and fish around there.

I like to fish round Cockatoo island and up to goat island before the harbour bridge, not as rough and a quick drive from the Gladesville bridge.

    Hi All,
I am looking to buy a trailer boat but I am unable to store it near my house in Leichhardt due to 2hr Parking zones.
Does anyone from the inner-west know of any places that are cheap to store a trailer boat in the area or better yet any streets that are non-residential and no restricted hours where council doesn't seem to have an issue with boats being left on street?

Thanks for any help or advice.

What about along the light rail line, I see plenty of boats and trailers stored there for weeks and months. Darley Rd?

Jeff I know I asked a couple years ago, and then I didn’t get much of a response. I think I asked just after the upgrade. I have looked at google earth and it looks good, but I’d like to hear from someone who uses it

I didn’t even notice the link I posted was started by you back then 😂

  10. When you pop of the cover does it have a series of bolts that hold the wheel on or a single nut.

If its series of nuts then its easy, to undo and spin the wheel and re-bolt it on,

If its a single nut with a Keyway then you have to remove the steering of the back, spin the shaft and wheel then slide the steering back on. Also some do have multiple Key ways to have some choice on the wheel.

(YouTube Vid attached to show the different types of Steering Wheels, not how to fix it)

s....how does anyone even secure against that? Only thing I can think of is like a permanent rear-facing dashcam but even then, they might just wear a mask and park their car sideways and you'll never catch a face of a plate...

When leaving over night I Reverse park it and have the trailer hard up against a barrier or rock wall. I also have the tow hitch lock and padlock the chain to the tow bar.

if leaving for a few days I add the yellow  wheel lock.

Thanks guys, I have a small yard with access at 90 degrees to the single driveway, no way I can reverse a trailer onto there (that is my biggest issue).

    Ok

I have had this situation as well, I just reversed the boat as close to the 90deg bend as possible, chocked the rear wheels, Disconnect of the tow bar.

Then used my muscle to push it across the grass, it was a 4.2mtr tinny but rolled easy, I have also pushed my 5.4mtr across grass, not so easy.

You will with practice be surprised how far in you will get it with the car, if you have swing room.

    Alternate to pushing is

use a electric jockey wheel (As frank has shown above)

Mount a winch to a post and use a electric winch to pull the boat back into place, Put a post at both ends and then use the electric winch to pull the boat out.

As for boat selection, the 440 like you posted is a great boat, but I would aim for a 480 or 500 to get extra room and allow for 5 people, so you can bring others, especially when the kids under 12 only count as 1/2 a person.

Can someone please measure the size of the actual sticker for me please?  Length and height please.

Length - From the top left corner of the w in www to the furthest point on the right hand side of the dolly

Height - The overall height of the dolly

    Thanks

    Will do it tonight

  14. I don't like Silverwater for 3 reason

    1. the wharf doesn't float and its as slippery as

    2. the river cats

    3. Mate parked his car and trailer overnight and came back and his trailer had been stolen and a old shit trailer put in its place, the thief had towed their boat down and did a trailer swap. Removed all ID. Upside my mate used that trailer to get home, so they were considerate I guess. but scary towing a 23ft boat on a rusted arse trailer.

E.g There is a building being proposed by Randwick council next door to me that they want to build 19 stories high, the current zoning limit is 7 stories, not only that in the proposal they have only allocated 9 parking spots to this building, YES you read right 9 parking spots

That might be 9 visitor parking spaces, as they are always the lowest possible
