  1. Looks very clean for a 1973 hull, what's the steering wheel at the rear for? external steering?

Aso beware of the extra weight a 4stroke in older models has over the 2 strokes of similar years.

  2. People put shitters on the mooring so they don’t lose their mooring.

my mate has a mooring at the back of his house, once he sold the boat he was told he needed to use the mooring or lose it. So he bought a crappy mooring minder boat.

The mooring adds large $$$ to his property value as its semi deep water and when he sells its a added bonus.

Although I agree they should police it better, maybe a water worthy inspection every two years would force people to keep better care of them.

I have the same boat..it would survive :)

ITs getting it back on the trailer or even enough on the trailer to prevent more damage. Time to call all your mates and get them round to help lift and push, while reversing.

  4. After watching that video, I also believe its a fuel delivery issue,

when cold and running does the fuel filter fill up completely or is it a mixture of air and fuel.

What is it like on full throttle when on the water, does the filter show air bubbles and fuel or just fuel.

Check all connections as they may be letting air in.

I know too many people that have bigger boats (Admittantly bigger than 4.6) and don't take them out often because it can be more of an effort to do so solo. I want something cheap to run and relatively easy to tow and that If I only have a few hour window I can duck out for a quick fish without it being too much of a hassle.

I can totally agree with this to a point, especially if they have a older F/g boat, then it can become a pain to go for a quick session.

I upgraded from a 4,2 tinny to a new 539 Stacer,  the 539 is way easier to launch and retrieve and attached to the car is almost as easy. I drive on and off the trailer unless the swell is running at Shoalbay.

The only down side between the two was I would tie the tinny up and not worry about it bashing into the wharf as it was old and scratched, the new boat I have 3 bumpers and race the car to park it and race back to the wharf to try and prevent scratches.

I would go the 460, just for the future proof, larger HP and extra room, running cost would be less than $100 extra per year but also remember you buy the boat for you not your mates as they rarely come out anyway.

PS - I was in Dural Bunnings the other day, and noticed a large LED display on the wall above the checkouts highlighting that Bunnings had installed Solar on many of the warehouse roofs - they were projecting that on that day they had generated 62Mwh of electricity, enough to power 32,000 standard homes ... thats a big load of the grid, which means the fossil generation plants can probably be sized for the average - not the peak load.

Makes my 7Mwh I have generated since 20th Sept 2019 look small, and I have a 9.9kW system on the roof, No battery as the pay back is way to long, the $8,000 of solar I put on my roof, should be paid back in 3.4yrs, have save $1181 since the install and its only been 6mths.

Bring on PW3 or the next generation in batteries, half the size, 30% cheaper and same storage, then I will consider getting one.

price range or too big a liability or both. The guy I know with a Sea Ray 29ft with

Can you do a boat share with this mate?

option 329: Buy a smaller half can boat for day or basic overnighter  and that 1 time per year hire a larger boat.

i feel you with the kids fishing, when my youngest was under 5 I used to just tie a sinker most of the time, as it spent more time sailing through the air than in the water.

    BRAND: Evinrude

    HP (model): 115hp V4

    YEAR: 2016

BOAT DATA (length, weight): Stacer 539 Bow rider 5.39mtr Alloy

    YOUR SERVICE INTERVAL: 12mths

    FUEL: 95

HOW LONG HAVE YOU USED THE OUTBOARD (hours on motor): 80hrs in 2yrs

TYPICAL BOATING USE (boating, skiing, fishing etc): Boating, Tubing and Fishing, lots of Dolphin watching and whale watching with the family.

Great on fuel, Had a few issues since new and have now changed dealers, so hopefully they will be sorted after todays service. Biggest issue is having the right Tech to work on the engine, once you get that they are great, has plenty of power and I can do 3 days of cruising and tubing with a family of 5 on board and have about 20ltrs left (90ltr Tank)

Legal to carry 7 but with 6 med to big adults it rips onto the plane and still does 60km at 5800rpm, pretty quiet on idle to med revs after that its at full song which its not ear splitting but not as quiet as my mates Suzuki 4 stroke, but not like a old 2 stroke either.

    Issues

All my issues stem from a poor diagnosis & oil injection problem,

Plugs and Injectors cleaned at 15hrs for Misfire

15hrs - 70hrs  multiple temp sensor alarms, oil purge alarms, low oil alarms

Changed dealer 70hrs and oil sensor cleaned, oil system primed or winterised and codes wiped, pebble found in cooling port to EMM, thermostat stuck open so engine wasn't reaching temp, No.4 spark plug wasn't indexed. So after that warranty & repair exercise the boat has been running fine,

Dropped it in for its yearly minor service (More for Peace of Mind). Would I buy another Probably not, but . i'll answer this question again in 12mths.

P.s If you do check its mainly the V4 (90HO - 115 - 115Ho) which has issues, the 3cyl version 15hp - 90hp have some of the best reputations going along with the G2 models.

    OTHER COMMENTS:

    Here is my 12mth Update:

Outboard now has 126hrs on it and I am very happy to report not one issue in the last 46hrs of running, its way better on fuel, use so much less oil, still has plenty of power and starts first go, So much so I am now not scared to venture outside the harbour and do a bit more fishing outside the heads.

Yep, big Octopus boiled for ages, then charred over charcoal, hard to beat, never going to eat those "baby" ones, ever......

I love the baby Occy's, no boiling, just cut up, marinate and 3mins on the BBQ, squeeze of lemon and they are gone.

    I'm based in Blacktown, NSW.

The ramp at the end of Rydalmere is a good one, just beware of the river cat ferries, but if you look up and down the river and launch when they are not around it will be a easy launch.

If you do have the trailer in the water and a river cat comes past don't worry to much just hold the boat down and wait for the 4 waves to pass and then proceed to launch.

Rhodes ramp is also another ramp, its a little quieter than Rydalmere and the ferry wash isn't as big as the ferries are slowing to stop across the river at Meadowbank.

Remember everyone started out fresh, just take your time, Do your checklist (Bung, Straps, Battery on, bow rope) if nervous let anyone around you know its your first time and you will find they will lend a hand and help.

Don't release the safety chain until the trailer / boat is in the water

I would also put the engine on the ear muffs / tank at home and start / run it before leaving, saves sitting at the ramp with a motor not starting.

Deep breath and relax it will be great.

Long weekends can be extra busy,

  11. I have a GoPro Hero 5 and the first one leaked, JB Hifi said sorry and handed me a new one,  (It was the same day) after that it has been great, I just keep forgetting to take it with me and I should spend some time getting the mounts set up.

If you don't pick a GoPro what other action camera do you recommend?

  12. I have 3 kids and instead of having showers the two smaller ones are sharing a bath, I am buying a small submersible pump which then pumps the bath water into the garden or I have a 200ltr drum.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/xu1-900w-submersible-pump_p4819828

The bath is a about 100ltrs which after 5 days gives me enough water to water my grass and garden, I have been passing buckets out the window currently and even used the water to wash the car when the Bats made a mess of it.

So for $90 from Bunnings this will speed up the draining process.

Our shower heads uses about 9ltrs per minute and the kids would shower all day if I did not set a timer.

  13. Just left at 4am this morning to Syd for work, back up Aust weekend and most weekends when the crowds disappear.

I do have a floor tank, not sure if its a kill take but have used it like that as it drain into the hull and out the bung, it also has the under floor ski locker.

  14. I have had it since 2016,

i have the sports Bimini which is Std, it take 7 people and does have plenty of room front and back.

it mainly gets a work out with the family, towing a Tube, chasing Dolphins, day trips to beaches on the hawkesbury and Syd Harbour, fishing as well.

As for offshore it would be no different to a open tinny or centre console as the sides are quite high and a few mates have the same model and go wide without issue.

last time I was up here someone commented at the ramp about the amount of room and people that fitted inside.

Has anyone got a bowrider boat they use for fishing? With the front seating arrangement, I've seen a few pics where they have taken the cushions out and put in an infill to make a casting deck. some seem quite roomy in the back too. My only concern is can you somehow mount an electric motor though

I have a Stacer 539 Bowrider and use it for fishing when I get the chance.

i don’t have the casting platform but with the seat cushions removed there is a ply cover over each storage area, which takes my 112kg without complaining.

i have seen bow mounted electric motors fitted, one I looked at just had a small section of the bow rail removed.

Will be out chasing Squid tomorrow morning in Shoalbay  with my 7yr old as that’s his favorite thing to do.

so if you see a Stacer 539 on a Silver Ranger 4wd that will be me.
