  1. Very interesting thanks , so the glow stick work better red or can be any Colour, the other that I'm not sure about is the rig , should I put a small sinker above the swivel on the main line or let it run on the trace ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Never got one I've been reading and is very interesting I also find catching these fish is no easy unless you have the right gear, I like to have a go someday but can I get some tips as to hook size, line and best bait please , I understand is not just pull on the rod as soon as there is a byte is this true? technics will be appreciate guys thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. You are correct that's something I had in the back of my mind but never got to do it, just found out in Minto there is a public weigh bridge 14 min away from me , will be paying it a visit one of these days ...!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Considering? I was in love with it when I saw it done in Botany Bay , i couldn't believe how quick these guys did it , I never tried driving it up I guess I need the practice on a quiet day coz I hate it when onlookers are having a lough on my account, lol ...what I like also it's so easy to install Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Thanks for the PM , you right about the 2000lbs I was reading the rolling capacity as 1500lbs for some reason until I checked again, just now, that'll save me some $$$ , Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I would think any decent spot light would do regardless of power, it will only go as far as you pointing with it, if I invest on one I would go for something that is not going to leave me short if I ever need the distance.
  7. I have a quick question with advice to the more experience... I'm looking to replace my belt winch to an electric one, I have found a Trex 5000, I was wondering if 5000lbs of pulling is a bit much or should I go for a 2000lbs (cheaper) My boat is a 1992 BFG 18.5 sea imp. (Heavy glass) I have no idea its weight, I calculate a ton more or less but I could be way out, I'm attaching some pictures at the bottom to see if anyone can tell me these types of winch bolts on the same holes as the old winch, looking at it it has the three bolts as the old one but not indicating the distance from each other. Any advice if these are good and if not where I can looking for one in Sydney to install myself The specifications of the winch are: 5,000 lbs. rated line pull, single line 3 stage planetary gear train Sealed Solenoid Drum Diameter & Length: 33mm x 90mm Steel Wire Rope: 7.2mm(D) x 10m (L) Battery/Remote Cable Length: 3m Gear Ratio: 717:1 Mounting Plate Dimension: 225mm x 125mm Voltage: DC 12V Loading Capacity Rolling: 15000 lbs. Marine: 12500 lbs. Pulling: 5000 lbs. I'm happy with my actual winch, still as new as my trailer but the reason I need to change to electric is I've done my shoulder (tear) and there could be surgery if it won’t heal on its own , I'll appreciate your advice guys...!!!
  8. Good to know thanks for the advise, i guess servicing the clutch will be only if one has to do it as you explained it, I opened my reel yesterday and took a good look at the clutch and there was no way I was going to mingle with it unless I knew what I was doing, the rest of that video just shows it is not that hard to have a go and doing it yourself , if there are any other mislead on that video let us know please Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Nothing better than having a quiet time cleaning your reels, nothing mayor if u can put the parts back in, by the sounds of it the problem is on the top and not the bottom end, have a go
  10. At BCF they sale a small plastic anchor, (very cheap)I had this on my kayak with a good length of rope, very handy to have if you want to stay on a good spot , my tip on this is if the current is strong have the anchor fixed at either ends and not on the side of the kayak Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Was that after the midnight show ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Thanks for the picture Foghorn I was wondering about the spring , now I know how it works , I just put the windlass in order hopefully will come in two weeks , that will give me time to put the new battery and switch panel Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. It sure does help, I like the idea of marking the chain , u sold me Fofhorn I'm looking at the free falls , I was looking at YouTube how to install and is pretty straight forward.... the only problem I have to figure out is that where the windlass has to seat it has a slight curve , I guess I'll see when I get it if I'll need to put a flat plate Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Browsing for bow rails I came across with lots of covers on eBay, may e worth taking a look there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I appreciate the advise guys looks like being prepared is the go here , I definitely will go for a cruse this month coming and check out ramps and drop off , sounds like the 9 o'clock show will be sufficient , I guess once there one can decide if is worth staying any longer , I'm set to give it a go Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. The reason I was going for power down was coz I read you don't have to go to go to the bow to unclip , it did made me think the time it will take to hit bottom, but if recon free fall is the way to go I'll rethink it for a bit longer , can the power down be set to free fall? I recall reading about it but not sure if it was about the 710HS Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Yes , the queue is in my mind, I thought of going early and pick up the family somewhere later but I never been there yet to know a good pick up point, I'll be coming from Campbelltown so I wonder what will be the best not so busy ramp, I guess I'll have to do one early morning Rose bay launch next month to get to know the area, someone said fenders are a must that day... thanks for the advise..
  18. Did a search and can’t find anything on this, so here I ago, I’ve been wanting to have a boat for as long I can remember but for many reasons and the missus in the way with the budget I figure it was going to be impossible to get one in my lifetime, so the story goes that last year me and the missus are watching the fireworks on the TV and looking at all lights and the boats the missus made a comment how perfect it will be to be there in the water, that’s when the lightbulb appear in my head and the more she talked about it the more courage was building in me, so I did what every man does in these situations, the more I thought about it felt like hairs was growing on my chest, I told myself I’m the man here, the bread winner and I should get what I want when I want, so….. I got up…. made her a cup of tea and told her, honey you know that with our savings we can get a boat ourselves…!!!! Cutting the story short I got the boat and the missus now is under the impression we are going to the Harbour this New Year’s eve and hello hello is arranging the kids to come, my question is how the heck I’m going to get the boat there now?, I’m doing my head in what ramp to go to, how busy is going to be and parking the trailer, what happens when it’s all over lining up at the ramp, forget Rosebay, so here I am asking if anyone here can give me some tips or had the experience being there and how to go about it pleas..... my ass and the missus will appreciated …!!!! PS: The boat is a18.5ft BFG 80 liter tank if that helps…
  19. I found this guy in Utube and I thought it will be good to bring it here, I just like the way he explains it Video
  20. Thanks for the manual , this is a preaty old thread but come in real handy for me, I've been looking at these 710H models and as always now I'm wandering if it will suit my needs, one of them was choosing from free fall to power, I think I'll be more happy with the power up but now I wonder if this model will suit the old heavy 1995 18 ft glass BFG, I read that it suits boats upto 6 mts but I'm concern if weight will be an issue now.... Has anyone have any expiriance with these windlass models?
  21. You aré correct, the only difference of the offshore is the parachute, Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Thanks bigbaron for the link interesting to know the price is within reach, I think the lowrance will be the one to get if I change my mind in not going wi-fi Lizardboy I think the t-box is better in deeps than the t-pod but I can't find anything on its depth capabilities however the Wi-fish depth Range is 600 ft (183m) and chirp which puts me in a big wander if I'm going for big screen or the lowrance now, thanks for the advise Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Correct the Japanese use the line diameter as a reference instead, I guess it depends of the braid quality the strength will change as well, I found this great page that explains a bit more and gives a better understanding (Click Here for the page)
  24. I came across some Japanese reels and got confused with their line sizes capabilities call PE, I made a good search and was hard to get a good understanding of their breaking point but I found this little chart that I thought it will be handy for someone else having the same problem
  25. Ok here goes a stupid question.... why do you have a Boat name and a call sign different to each other? I'm just asking because I'm new and learning with my first boat My Boat's name is Ofelinda and so far never went offshore or had to used the radio, can I use Ofelinda as my call sign or I need to register with something different with a coast guard or someone???
