  1. Good going guys! Was hoping to see a pick of GT as I kept reading through your post haha!
  2. Nice catch bud! Was this land based or boat? Either way, good job. Damn, wish I could have gone out this morning to.Oh well, work called! Jay
  3. Well done guys! All on soft plastic? Nice fish!
  4. Bull Sharks are a very aggressive species. Whatever body part or limb they hit... is gone. Some say they are just plain territorial and do not like anything/anyone near them. Great whites are not as dangerous as people or hollywood makes them to be. My team leader fed and swam with sharks for 20 years. There is videos (below), of people FREE swimming with great whites (no protection, no chain mail)...they do not hit unless water is murky or hungry. Bull sharks.. (also see video below)...are VERY unpredictable... Swimming with Great White Bull shark behaviour Just always respect the Ocean...we are its guest. Jay
  5. Hey at least you got a hook up! Being a land based fisherman (inner west), thats even hard to get these days (with the weather and all). Man id love to go out and try the heads! Better luck next time mate, and charge the GoPro

    Lure vs Bait

Hi Derek, What an awesome write up mate! Learned and couraged up a bit. I think I will buy a few metal knights next time I hit the shops. My mate showed me how to work metals yesterday night and it was pretty fun (even though nothing hit it, even our baits were not being hit, so no complain. However, I did have a question. As I am a land based fisho my mate advised I move around my casts as I am trying to FIND the fish, instead of the fish finding me i.e. with bait. If I cast around a bit, and nothing hits do I just go back to bait or switch lures or? This is what I am confused about a bit on how long to try and how many times to maybe switch up lures? Cheers mate! Once again, great advise! Appreciated. Jay
  7. Interesting post, I always have a debate with my fisho buddy regarding this topic. My mate is ABSOLUTELY and I mean, pay him and he won't do it, does not like going into the water! One sole reason, sharks. Especially, Bull Sharks. An experienced fisho from Fish raiders actually told me, that on average 10 sharks go past a surfer (not sure about the validity of this). What I have come to understand, is the more I spent my time around the water, I started connecting with what could really be down there. And the amount of sharks on the rise is pretty alarming. My team leader at work is someone with marine education and dived with sharks for 20 years of his life before he came into finance. Even he had told me, he would happily swim openly with a great white, but a bull shark, maybe not so. I think I am more uncomfortable getting into the water after I started fishing haha... Another thing that freaks me out is when Im at the beach and some fisho on the beach is chucking out barley and/or using live bait...who knows what it might attract Jay
  8. Good Evening fellow Raiders, So, I spent a lot of time watching videos and reading, but would like a bit more information on using lures for salt water land based fishing. I usually have trouble obtaining fresh bait and it does get a bit costly with the amount of hours I try putting in each week to go fishing. At the same time, if you guys advice bait works better, I will happily try be best to continue doing what I am doing. As I fish Sydney harbour a lot, and will be beach fishing when summer kicks in, I was wanting to know how well lures work for species such as tailor, salmon, bonito (I am even happy with bream as I am still learning) ? And what KIND of lures should I be focusing on purchasing and the method in retrieval (I usually let it sink, and do a fast retrieve if using metal) Any pics of lures would be highly appreciated and once again, thank you for the support and time for reading my post! Happy Raiding! Jay
  9. Well done mate! I went to fish coogee once...was not the best report ... even though it was of the beach. May I ask how you got to the rocks?
  10. Great fish mate! Lure as well Did you just cast and reel back quick? Or you spotted them before hand? Good catch!
  11. Hi guys, Hope you are all well. My name is Jay, I live around West Sydney and was looking for someone that may want some company fishing with a boat? I have never fished from a boat but would really like to try it out. To be fair, I do not mind chipping in for fuel, bait and helping you clean the boat after each trip. I have my own transport also J Thanks guys! Summer is almost here!! Jay
  12. Long live the hand lines caught at least 50 fish when I was overseas on hand lines haha... well done mate!
  13. Yeah I agree with tef1on, I might just send a sinker into someones face. Like casting with smaller rods, I can send them flying, but 12ft rod... I might just go down to a quiter park and see if theres anyone around and do practice casts. A good cast apparantly can make the difference of finding the hole or not. Cheers guys!
  14. Hey all, Hope everyone had a killer weekend and caught some beasts! I went down to the harbour, had a few hits, but couldn't hook up. Now, I am pretty okay with casting with my 6-7ft rods, but when it comes to my beach rod..12ft...I can not get the distance I want, my other rods over cast it... I watched tons of videos and still wondering what else I can do to cast that beast... and I have 20LB mono on main as well. Any advice would be highly appreciated. I am going to the park this weekend to practice cast, yep fishing is an art form Jay
  15. Nice tailor mate! Well done! Quick question, is it true tailors hit hard on fast retrieve lures also? Regardless, good catch!
  16. Nice fish mate! Im local to the parra and gladesville area. Its so good to have a boat around these parts even though I am land based. Good first jew mate! Well done
  17. Thanks guys! Cant wait to go out this weekend to the harbour!
  18. Thanks Mike. Chasing King fish. If you cant get the smaller ones, I usually keep a bigger one and fillet it. That way, you still have FRESH bait Could you be a bit more specific where in Balmoral or Greenwich has a good structure? Thanks.
  19. Hi All, Hope you are all having a great week so far! I am planning to go around sydney harbour (land based) this weekend and was wondering the closest place (with a nearby parking spot) to catch yakkas? Could someone kindly give me the spot / direction? I will be fishing near the harbour bridge, but do not mind travelling a bit to get some yellow tail. Your input would be highly appreciated thanks guys! Jay
  20. Thanks guys! Your comments really inspire this rookie to keep aiming higher!
  21. Thanks guys for the support! Honestly, when that bream hit my yakka it shook up my rod and drag HARD! Thought it was a jew take lol
  22. Hey guys..hope you are all well...so after spending roughly 20 hours a week...getting out of the office at 5pm...rigging up and gearin the car (to save as much time possible, as I dont have a boat and its all land based for me)...and just going home to change and return for dinner at 12am...I finally caught a jew from Gladesville. Had dead yakka out..after the live bait died...had drag down...was fishing on my smaller setup on the other side of the rocks I was on and BOOM i hear my 8000 reel just let lose.. my mate grabbed the rod...tightened drag and i let it rip. Head shakes everywhere...i knew it wasnt a big one...as i have watched hours of Youtube videos on how a jew hits bait. Honestly. ..stoked. Had a 12ft rod out...30lb leader and 20lb mono main..backed by a 8000 reel with around 300 meteres on it..people.laughed when i would walk around with that..but id rather be over prepared than under prepared. Im only fishing for a couple months..so.i just wanted to bbe ready for that day my reel screams off. I also caught my record best Bream at 45cm Thank you Tag for all advice and the lessons I get from you regularly.
  23. Hi mate, Even though I am a rookie, I am one of those belivers of "I will nail that fish of a life time" kinda guy. So always over paranoid about how I setup. What I do is, after tieing every knot, I hold the non sharp part of the hook, face it in another direction (just incase it slips), and I pull the line connected to it by applying around 7-8kg of pressure (depending on the line im using). Believe it or not mate, I have had hooks come off like they were taped to the line instead of being tied lol... once I am satisfied the hook will hold, I cast out. I have had snags, where I used so much force to rip the hook out with just the rod, but my knots wont let go. Its better to know your knots good Better luck next time bro! Jay
  24. Holy moly...nice fish mate! And a great way to spend Fathers day! (my dad was never the fishing type lol). Mind sharing the bait and setup you used? Water depth? Cheers bro!
