  1. Can't comment on fly but with diving hardbodies whiting like a rapid twitching retrieve with minimal pausing
  2. I stand corrected didn't realise the bonnies appear so early, the mouth of the river on run in tide would also be worth a go
  3. this might help http://tackletactics.com.au/Rigging-Guides/Selecting-a-HeadlockZ-jighead-for-your-ZMan-plastic
  4. 1/12th would be fine, hook size #2 or #1
  5. Weight depends on how deep you want to fish, tge zman 2.5inch slim swimz on a TT HD #2 hook, between a 1/8th and a 1/16th you'll by catch bream and whiting
  6. amber jacks? valla mountain it's about 15 mile out, have seen a few AJ's come from out there, mostly sambos though
  7. January is probably not the best time for pelagics, tailor and salmon are more of a winter target and tuna and bonnies might be a viable target depends on the year but probably a bit early
  8. Got out on Friday for another session on the Nambucca, I figured with the good weather it'd be rude not to go fishing. Again a slow start working some of the deeper areas with a soft vibe, found a bit of sunken timber on the sounder stacked with bait not much action on the soft vibe so swithched to a small blade and straight away a nice flattie went 57cm, ended up with 5 flatties from 6 casts, with the doughnut busted headed upriver to fish the timber. It was a pretty slow start upriver the bream just weren't playing the game but kept flicking plastics along the edges, pulled the plastic into a school of mullet trying to tempt a bite and it got eaten thought it was a mullet at first turned out to be a GT. Not a bad fish to keep the day moving, with the plastics on the edge not really producing switched to the blade woring a bit deeper, didn't take many casts for it to get monstered on the drop the fish took off like a train it was a difficult fight on 6lb had to palm the spool a couple of times, thinking a good trev I should have known better another good black-spot he went 42cm, they're becoming quite a common catch this year. With the afternoon being warm and catching an active cod thought I'd bust out the jack gear and work a bigger hardbody around the timber and rockbars hoping for an active jack. The GT's started coming aboard most of the bigger trees had mid 30's trevs schooled up on them also got a couple off a rock bar, coming onto a snag I had high jack hopes on placed a perfect cast and the lure was almost immediately the teeth shattering hit and brutal run got my hopes up of all things red, finally when I had the fish out in open water realised it was a trev a nice 42cm model certainly ut up a hell of a fight for his size. Caught a few more flatties on a rockbar then finished the session with a lone bream working some flats near the ramp. Ended up with plenty of fish for the session seems flathead, bream, cod and trevs are a standard fishing session at the moment hopefully it won't be long and jacks will be added to the list again. cheers for reading Dave
  9. don't know any actual coordinates but theres plenty of hard reef just south of coffs off Sawtell in the 20 metres, the snapper should be in close at the moment try the tackle shop they're usually a pretty good source of info
  10. hey mate, I live at Eungai and my better half lives at Port Macqarie I'm always looking for fishing buddies
  11. that was an awesome read....I feel your pain we've all been there
  12. the 20 and 30lb jbraid just started breaking only after a couple of months wasn't damaged at all one session literally had it break under near zero pressure times and could see it just pulled apart
  13. sufix 832 braid and platypus p8 are the only braids I use now Ive had loads of issues with j braid and sunline
  14. We've all had one of those trips
  15. There are loads of black-spots in my local they'd soon become rare if people started keeping them it's funny I've never seen a protected "estuary cod" in the Nambucca
  16. Had a day off with nowhere to be so launched the boat with the aim of putting in a long session. The weather didn't take long to reveal it's intentions with a nasty SW wind making it very unpleasant. To say it was a slow start was an understatement the river seemed devoid of life and to top it off my favourite deep sunken log must have washed away in the last king tides. As the wind got stronger the ramp looked more inviting the only option I had was to shoot upstream and hopefully find some sheltered sections. At hours without even a follow my desperation led to me digging through tackle and finding a blade which I basically never use, and second cast it gets hit the fish didn't connect. A coule of casts later and the blade gets hit again this time it stays connected so after 3 hours and 8 minutes the first fish is on the boat a big eye to break the doughnut With some renewed mojo kept the casts going and didn't take long to find another taker a GT no size but still fish on a tough day, ended up cracking the pattern ust cast the blade into the middle of the river and intercept the patrolling schools after awhile there were even small bust-ups so chucked hardbodies at them working further up into some deeper water the blade again got eaten this time by a proper fish which my 6lb gear was no match for and busted me off and left me scratching my head, thinking a bigger trev started casting a 5inch plastic on 20lb around the deep hole took about 10 minutes but in exactly the same spot the plastic gets monstered as well, again I was rapidly buried but with some gentle persuation the fish came back out into open water then put the power on again was quite an effort driving the electric out while wrestling a submarine but after a few near misses with structure the latest beast was in the net another big black-spot only this monster went 55cm and bested a pb I never thought I'd beat in the Nambucca, luckily I had the tripod so I could get a shot using the timer the fish was released in perfect health to continue it's reign of terror even managed to sray me with freezing water as it too off that fish pretty much ended the session which involved some serious casting but the rewards were definetly worth it cheers for reading Dave they were all the same size class but they rescued an alomost certain doughnut
  17. There's been some good flows on the severn hopefully it stirs the fish up for you
  18. I've got a homemade version of the tackleback it's saved a lot of lures
  19. South West Rocks about 5 hours from Sydney, you've got a mile of options landbased, you've also got laurieton as a bit closer to sydney optio
  20. Seen that one first hand with a work mate who had a dinner party with a 30kg spanish caught off Scotts Head, made famous by the Hamish and Andy show
  21. Fish from that family scrombridae which includes most of our pelagic fish like tunas and mackeral can cause scrombroid poisoning if they're not chilled after they're dispatched leaving the guts in can apparently also speed up the process, there is no detectable way to know the flesh is spoiled... it can occur in any fish but is much more likely in tyat particular family It's amazing what you can learn working in healthcare from unlucky people
  22. Nice pike mate.... they're one I intend to tick off the bucket list some time
