  1. Not even exaggerated... That's exactly how it went down.. I was beaten fair and square
  2. sounds like a perfect example of cod fishing
  3. sure it's not 2 to 30? I work in a hospital and have not long done a mandatory reaccreditation in advanced life support which teaches 2 to 30 more importantly it's about quality chest compressions at a rate of approximately 100/minute it's becoming well accepted that chest compressions are all that is necessary outside the hospital setting I certainly wouldn't do mouth to mouth (in hospital setting we have ventilation equipment)
  4. Most of my fishing is either kayak or on foot, I only carry the bare essentials being a snake bite kit and an extra compression bandage with a couple of alginate dressings for bleeding control and a triangle bandage also carry a Personal Locator Beacon which lives in my fishing backpack
  5. I'm chasing bass on the yak hopefully the rain has stirred them up
  6. Look for something in the 6'6" -7' size range 6-8kg be more practical if you're just casting a big bait or bigger lure
  7. Nice fish mate dunno about the central coast but on the mid north it's been a tough bass season
  8. in the salt pearl, greasy prawn, bloodworm, bubblegum, copper in the fresh gudgeon and black
  9. x 2 on the zmans...... the standard of ecogear has dropped from quality to garbage but the price has stayed the same
  10. Freshwater you can launch a yak at ellensborough reserve about 30km west of wauhope
  11. The river was actually pretty good because they're letting water out ot pindari dam, the surrounding land looks terrible, water in the pic only looks crappy because it's a backwater with minimal flow off the main river
  12. Me and a good mate headed out to Ashford for a cod overnighter, thought we might be in for a struggle judging how dry it looked on the trip out but we arrived to find the river looking perfect got the kayaks on the water and started casting. That was where the positive confidance ended, we cast the spinnerbaits for ages with one swirl as a result, after casting a snag multiple times with a spinnerbait grabbed my spare rod with a 5" curly tail plastic rigged weedless and put a cast in the same snag, it was instantly hit no fish but soemthing. Kept working along the river casting the plastic with the occasional hit and miss, with the day getting on and a long paddle back to camp I came to a small backwater for a last ditch effort at a fish. The area was narrow and fairly shallow, running a cast along some rock trenches under an overhang the plastic just disappeared with the road loading up I couldn't believe it a fish, he fought hard for a small fish but soon had him yak side A 45cm fish but didin't care it was a fish worked to the end of the backwater and heading back out saw a similar bit to the where I'd caught the fish that I hadn't casted on the way in, so cast along there and sure enough a thump on the line, I was dumbfounded when I realised the dark shape in the water was the fish as it took off, staright away this was a better class of fish, what I've been trying to catch for ages, all hell broke loose got dragged up into trees my spare rod got tangle in branches made for some frantic untangling, got nervous once I realised the fish had swallowed the plastic and only running 20lb leader, finally got the upper hand and decided to lip grip and land the fish onshore rather than in the yak ended up measuring 66cm not a monster but a beast for the water it came out of and destroyed my previous pb of 52cm and really heavy, had to reach inside the mouth to get the lure out left me with "cod fist" came from a shallow skinny piece of water that was it for fish kept casting all the way back to camp but didn't matter I had a smile from ear to ear cheers for reading Dave
  13. A bit of 30lb mono will stand up to eel teeth, a strip of steak is your best bait, make sure you have plenty of hook exposure and give them plenty of time to swallow the bait On a side note the short fin and longfin eels have different size limits, make sure you check the regs and how to tell them apart
  14. Not sure how relevant but in a previous life working in aquaculture fish harvested from dams were "purged" in clean water to remove the blue green algae toxin which causes a weedy or "off" flavour on the same principle I've always assumed if the fish come from decent water they'll be safe to eat regardless of where they've been as most of the toxins will have been shed
  15. Me and Amy managed a kidfree weekend so what better way to spend it than camping and fishing. We started by heading up into the Nymboi-binderay national park out to cod hole campground on the Nymboida river. I had heard the river was at an all time low and barely flowing so we were pleasantly surprised to find it looking pretty good only slightly down on what it normally is. We wasted no time getting to the water and starting to cast........... and cast............. and cast some more! The fish decided they were going to play haed to get. We ept persisting and finally I hear Amy call out so I go running over (giving myself a fine ankle bruise in the process) to find her with her first cod. A beautiful fish, quickly released, leaving Amy 1 up and bragging rights were claimed Over the afternoon and next morning we saw loads of fish but no action, apart from me getting busted off thanks to my line just snapping which about summed up my Nymboida leg of the trip and solemly swear I'll never buy Daiwa J-braid again and thanks to a backlash from the lure catching a branch on the cast I've replaced it. So with severly wounded pride I drove out of the Nymboida to our trout spot. The creek was a bit low but still looking awesome as ever Didn't take long to find some trout, they were aggressive chasing and hitting the lures it was just a bit difficult getting the hooks to stay in. After several thrown hooks and my patience wearing a little thin finally a fish stayed on and out came nice rainbow. never felt so relieved to land a fish Woring along the creek we kept casting with plenty of hits and follows but the low water making it difficult. Then with a little back cast into a pool out comes a little brown continuing upstream Amy was having a tough session so to cheer her up a bit, I say to her watch this, and call out "Hail Mary" and lauching a cast as far as I can up the creek into a bunch of small pools. The cast landed in a tiny pool and was instantly nailed by a quality brown, the fish cartwheeled over shallow and almost dry rocks staying connected still can't believe I pulled it off it's certainly won me some bragging rights. Amy's tough luck continued the fish just wouldn't stay connected for her including some really solid fish but to her credit she kept casting to add to her frustrations I put a cast in a run after she had puy atleast 10 in it and pulled out a rainbow Amy being the determined fisho she is kept casting and casting with the property boundary getting close she finally had a fish stay connected despite it jumping over and over A nice rainbow to finish the trip, the fishing was tough but I reckon it's the tough days that make you appreciate catching a fish, hopefully some rain in the near future will improve the fishing cheers for reading Dave
