Are squid jigs pretty much the only way to catch squid here? I've fished here a lot in the past with bait for a few bream etc but not sure how to go about fishing for squid. Suggestions on jigs? And is it just a cast and slow retrieval? Thanks

I vaguely remember there was either talk of Kurnell being upgraded or it was closed off for a while and there was the thought it was to be upgraded. Maybe I dreamt it though.

I've used Yo Zuri Hybrid with good results but seem to keep heading back to Maxima Perfexion.

You'll find most of those stores starting with K still have Mustad hooks.

Depends on weight and whether it has brakes. I *think* above 750GVM and ANY braked trailer needs a yearly inspection - boat or box trailer. I'm sure someone will know accurate specifics.

Hope you don't mind me asking, but in regards to 'rust' what is considered passable and what isn't? Is all over 'pitting' or light surface rust acceptable and its only structural rust that is a risk of breakage that is an issue? Thanks

What about a coloured light of some kind, or at least slightly coloured? Doesn't a particular colour not effect night vision. Only issue I can see with that is it might be confusing for other water users with nav lights, however a bright headlight should only be used when there is no other traffic (quiet spot late at night).

Really LOL'ed at the Pee Hole. Oops, should add something constructive shouldn't I? I had an outboard that hadn't been run for 12mths at least, hooked up the fuel and she started up first go (gotta love it!) however had the same problem with no water from the pee hole so used a stick to unblock the dirt and stuff from the pee hole and started flowing. Give it a go and give it another minute.

Hey all, Small update if this helps. I'm sure I measure the round axle as 30mm although I thought the smallest was a 39mm round. No markings on it that I can tell. Now, not sure how to explain this, but the axle/spring looks like its one unit, ie, its like a half length spring welded around the axle one end and bolted to the trailer the other end. One hub is marked Carter Wesco 150mm SO. Not sure what the SO stands for. Carter Wesco still exist and I've emailed them, but some of the guys here might be able to shed more light than them if I get a response at all (you know what companies can be like these days). Wheels are 4 stud. Hope some of this helps!

Now, I'm not overly familiar with Botany Bay, but surely rather than hang onto a bouy for 8 hours you could get one guy capable enough to swim to land? Its not like they were 20 miles off shore where they considering they mentioned so much boat traffic? Unless of course they couldn't swim. I'm a bit confused.

Hi all, I've got myself a very old Brooker 126 trailer. There are no markings on the 12" wheels that I can see. It has a round axle. I'm wondering if anyone who is cluey on these old Brookers, or might even have a 126 could tell me if they know what wheel type and bearings it uses. I'm assuming its likely to be original. Thanks in advance.

It seems there are several different control boxes, what sort is yours? Single lever, 2 lever or the third which I think has a button of some sort too...... I'll scan a few pages for you.

Do you have a workshop manual for the motor? If not, if its a Johnson I have a manual for back to 1971, up to 60hp so I could copy/paste some info or something if it helps.

Well, I'm on the lookout for a small tinny too, around the same size, but cheaper. LOL. I don't even need a trailer as I have one suitable for up to 4.5m boat already. Motor or no motor, all relative to price.....

There is a course, but you also need so many hours on particular type of craft (length etc) in particular type of water (enclosed/open) depending on what you want. There is no easy way of doing it. You also need to pass a fairly strict medical, including INIDIVIDUAL eye sight tests. Its one reason I'm not going to bother, I can pass RTA driving eyesight test because one eye compensates for the other, but I am 'just' legally blind in one eye (fixable if I get the balls to do a cornea transplant I need), but individually in each eye I have no chance. Check you won't have problems BEFORE you do the course and put in the hours, you don't want to then fail the medical and its all in vain. If you google 'coxswain requirements NSW' you should get lots of info.

I know its hard without a pic and with my poor description, it was dark and wet, anyway I caught a fish off the long wharf at Batemans Bay (off the promenade near Beach rd) in the Clyde river that I have no idea what it is. It looked a bit like a bream shape wise (as in not elongated), but didn't have anywhere near as obvious scales. Does that scaleless look description help anyone? Unfortunately my fish id skills are lacking unless its a bream, flathead or snapper. Speaking of which, I caught my first ever snapper on the same night, beautiful fish, although only 20cm, its red was so bright and its blue spots shone like christmas decorations, I was stoked. In fact that and the few bream I caught were all very clean bright healthy looking fish. Didn't catch anything legal, but a nice time anyway. EDIT: I have a sneaking suspicion it might have been a small trevally. Its shape, size and scaleless look (and the pics on google) seem to be pretty darn close indeed. In that case, it was also my first trevally ever. The trip just got better!

Forget the maybe. Even if you aren't towing a tranny cooler is a good investment to keep the transmission cool. Its a definite if you are towing and want to extend the life of your transmission.

Thanks guys for your input. I do have some Spiderwire I thought of trying instead of my mono. Maybe its time to get it on the spool. Also, I'm wondering if a slightly larger sized reel might be better. I was thinking of upgrading to a Ci4, being lighter than the standard Stradics I'm wondering if a 2500 would still be ok for fishing light, and I guess it also makes it a bit more flexible for if I fish for slightly bigger stuff at a pinch. To answer the last question, I've alway fished with that length rod for bream/flatties etc, mainly because longer in light gear isn't overly available. On the same subject, can I ask, my Raider Spin 6'8 with Penn 1000 is a nice combo and is smooth and comfortable, but the Finesse Bream with the Trion GX7 (somewhere between 500-1000 size) seems to 'wobble' as I wind in (although the reel feels smooth).....is it just not a well suited rod/reel combo?

Hi all, Trying to work out the best combo for getting the best shore based casting distance. Currently using either a Shimano raider spin 6'8" or Shimano Finesse Bream 7'2" and either a Penn 1000 Accord or Pflueger Trion GX7 and between 4-8lb line (usually Maxima Perfexion). Most often use mullet squares and a very small sinker just to add a tiny bit of weight to combat the breeze etc. Any suggestions on how I could improve casting distance? Would a longer rod give me much more, if so, what is around? All I can find in lighter, longer rods is a Nitro Distance spin at 7'6" (and at $329 odd!) and I'm not sure if an extra 4 inches and $329 will give me much improvement. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, I had a one piece Rack Raider also gifted to me, and it snapped in between first and second guides. The Shimano distributors at Taren Point were kind enough to replace it for me no questions asked, so you can only try!

Yep, they are now a Chincotta (or Cincotta, whatever it is) Chemist which is good for us as they are a much more competitive chemist chain.
