  1. Doesn't lowering the ratio to 75:1 impact on the safe operation of the motor? They were designed to run on 50:1 correct?
  2. Yeah you made me do a double take LOL I was like "I am sure I didn't see any abnormal welds" haha.
  3. Hi, Just wondering where on the Nepean I can chase some decent Bass without contending with speedboats and jet ski's etc? I know I can launch at Penrith but that gets hit pretty hard with speedboats. Any other boat ramps and stretches where I can get some Bass in peace?
  4. Hi Eli, I agree with Neil, if you are fishing a headland wash that is powerful, an electric may not be your best bet. However, fishing offshore and inshore reefs and using it to position the boat should be fine. I just installed a Watersnake Shadow MkII 65lb/54 inch shaft on my 3.7m tinny and it flies. I only need to run it on low speed (speed setting of 2 or 2.5 from a possible top speed of 7) to easily manouvre the boat around. Was easy to install and easy to use. I decided not to get a GPS one as I didn't see the need for it for what I was doing. Also didn't get a remote control one as the foot pedal was plenty for what I needed. Got it from BCF (member discount) for $699.00. Good luck with your search, it can be difficult making a decision!
  5. I checked out that spot closer. Its just a glob of old silicone. There is no corresponding hole on the outside so it must have just landed there and never been cleaned up.
  6. Not sure mate never noticed it, I'll check it out when I get home and take a close-up pic. I inspected it top to toe before purchase and didn't see any evidence of any non-original welds but I'll look again in that spot.
  7. I only just bought it a month or so ago so will definitely get around to fixing the bungs. They work for now which is what matters most to me lol. Not sure about the weld? They all looked like original manufacturers welds to me. If you can point it out I'll take another look and post some close up pics.
  8. Thanks for all the help guys. Got mine installed easily with the adjustable transducer mount and some s/s nuts/bolts and sikaflex. Transducer install doesn't look pretty but it works fine!
  9. I installed the variable height bracket last night and will be adding the transducer to it today, I'll post up some pics tonight when I am done.
  10. Took my sons fishing in the bay and we got a good mixed bag of bream, flathead, flounder and tailor. Lost a nice trevally boatside due to pulling the hooks. Great weather for fishing and the boys had a blast! Biggest flounder I have ever seen, over 40cm and heavy!
  11. Sweet, thanks! Can I buy the adjustable bracket at BCF? I looked on their site and they have them but not sure if they are a good type or quality.
  12. I will read the instructions of course but many on these forums have done it before me so it helps to get some practical advice also.
  13. Hi, The model is a Lowrance Hook 4x with Downscan. I am not sure what size/shape the transducer is as I have to pick it up this afternoon. http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Fishfinder/hook-4x-en-us.aspx How can I find out what the transducer looks like before picking it up? Appreciate your help!
  14. Hi, About to install a new fish finder. Never done one myself before. Any tips to make sure I get the best outcome? It's a small tinny so I know where I want the head unit to sit but I am worried about getting the transducer in the right spot. Appreciate any help, or if someone would like to assist I am located in Baulkham Hills. Regards Nick
  15. Thanks guys, it's running perfectly fine so I'll keep it and make the most until it becomes too small to cope.
  16. Hi All, I have a 3.7m AllyCraft tinny with a 9.9hp 2-stroke Tohatsu. Boat goes well, get on the plane even with 3 people in it. Any ideas how I can eke a tiny bit extra performance from the motor? It is essentially a 15hp restricted to 9.9hp. Not sure if there is an easy fix to remove a restrictor plate or swap a carbie from a 15hp model? I eventually plan to swap for a 20 or 25hp but until then happy to tinker with this motor. Motor is currently set to the correct height with the anti ventilation plate in line with the bottom of the transom. Any tips or tricks appreciated. Nick
  17. I also noticed that towing a boat on a tandem, braked trailer with hydraulic brakes was far easier than a single axle (trailer floated less behind the car) and/or non-braked (trailer brakes worked beautifully and didn't rely solely on the car brakes).
  18. I like the classics, Berkley 3 inch Bulky Hawgs in Watermelon or Pumpkinseed, 3 inch Bass Minnows in smelt or watermelon, 3 inch Gulps in just about any design. Interesting to note that plastics are making up less and less of my preferred lure choice. Blades/vibes and cranks are spending more time in the water with me lately and seem to produce good results because they give out vibrations that are much stronger than plastics.
  19. The Hilux wont let you down. Plenty of other options too like Mazda BT50, Ford Ranger. Even the VW Tiguan is excellent for towing up to 2 tonnes or you can consider the Amarok for a bit more grunt.
  20. Keen to take another keen bass angler with you on your next adventure? I have never fished the shire before only out west.
  21. I don't think saying "It's all Maritime's fault" is a fair analysis. What ever happened to personal responsibility? Following the rules? No matter how many patrols they can manage to have on the water with the funding they have, it comes back to the same core issue. Watercraft operators need to adhere to the rules or lose their license. Maritime should be increasing the penalties, both fines and loss or suspension of license for offences. The best way to rid the waterways of wrongdoers is to take away their licenses. The person charged in this article should have their license suspended until the court date and if found guilty be banned from holding a license for 2 years plus a very hefty fine at the least. I also don't see why they can't have some sort of speed camera system for the waterway either. Especially in the Georges the river is narrow enough to mount a fixed camera on the river bank.
  22. Last time I put my boat in at that ramp on the Georges, the one at the bottom of River Road, I saw 2 x collisions between jet skiers and boats on the same day. Both were the fault of the jet ski operator. The first one was a jet ski hitting a boat while the owner was putting it on the trailer! My jaw dropped at that one. They also criss-cross the river at high speed without looking around them I nearly hit a few myself. At one point I had to idle through the area to avoid killing one of them. The guys that were using the wake boats were using the area inside the mouth of Salt Pan Creek to stay out of their way. I will be happy to see everyone enjoying their chosen activities safely and I hope this new measure helps.
  23. I reckon Fisheries should change the legislation to 2 lines in the water per person. That way you can bring as many rigged outfits as you want but can only have 2 of them in the water at any given time. This should obviously only apply to fisho's fishing from land or anything attached/fixed to land like wharves and jetties etc. Won't affect any boat fisherman.
  24. Daiwa Aird. I couldn't find a better reel for $100 than that.
