  1. Arghhhh, One more week of truckin' Then it will be time for a little land based fishing AND, the long awaited launching of the the "BIG BOUY" tinnie. I have been looking at various clips on whiting fishing, bream fishing and your bread and butter fishing. MOTIVATED! Can't wait, Lake Mq here I come! I am taking some long service leave & rec leave (6wks in total) Up I go, now that's what I'm talking about. Yep, looking forward to posting a few success stories here in the next few weeks. Until then, tight lines everyone.
  2. MACKEREL ……. The spot is near the old "Raffertys Resort" eastern side of the lake, South from Swansea, North of Doyalson.
  3. Just a quick report. At home alone for the Easter break, was thinking of launching the tinny on my own, but I would have to wear an old floppy life jacket that makes rod handling some what of a challenge, ssooo off to an old fave' fishing spot at Lake Mq. Armed with some berley and good old servo prawns, first cast, bang !!! on for a nice bream 35cm. Hmm, not bad at all. Now if only my ''mates'' on jet skis and ski boats would ''play'' in another part of the Lake, a man might have half a chance of getting another keeper. As the day warmed up, and those bone heads on jet skis increased their activities, and the worms were letting me know I should take a break, sit down at the waters edge and eat a bit of tucker whilst I watched some of the locals play in the park, ride their horses and walk their dogs. It seemed as though the fish were not on the chew, so I guess it was time to take five and take it all in. That done, prawn on hook, line in water, and a familiar sucking sensation and loading of the line zzzzz off we go, argh you little ripper, got a nice ol croc. The ol girl came in at 63cm. Gotta be happy with that. fished for an hour or so after that, hook one little pinky that was released to fight another day. Lake Mq, what a great spot, what a great day. Thanks for reading. Rod.
  4. picasabackground-002.bmpGave away more overtime shifts, so that I could spend a little quiet time with the ol' boy fishing the river at Laurieton. Dad managed to boat the usual handful of throw backs, and a nice healthy 30cm bream. I, not so lucky. First cast and my bait was sucked down hard and deep ??? A lizard perhaps. What ever it was, it walked me around the boat and under the boat, upstream, downstream..... Then zzziiinnnngggggg, this thing stole a heap of line, I then gained most of it back, and then the fight was on. I played this beast for 15 minutes, then she cracked the surface........ A HUGE BIG OL STINGRAY. My next ''catch'' n release was a flattie, not huge, not big, not even small.... Try about 4cm. If that! The last thing I boated was a nice little octopus.picasabackground-002.bmp
  5. Back from a ripper of a time, smooth sailing, bulked up (put 3kg on)..... Had to stop and investigate a possible capsized vessel at sea, turned out to be a spent whale carcus. GR8 TIME had bt all.
  6. My Girl and I slipped up to Port for the weekend, we took a stroll through the park and stood watching a small crowd that had gathered on the jetty, just down from Port Macq. Police Stn, when suddenly I spied it.... a very noticeable bend in some blokes rod, sure enough ol' mate landed what, from where we were standing appeared to be a lizard.
  7. More sad news, my uncle (mums brother) passed away 4/01/2013. I would like to thank all who sent their condolences. Not a great way to end 2012, nor a great start to 2013. R.I.P. Mum, and uncle Bill.
  8. Firstly..... Let me start by wishing all, the very best over the festive season, and the happiest of new year to you. Sadly I lost my mother 27th Dec, age 78. I remember mum, listening to this song ''Token Angels" Rest In Peace mum.
  9. Yeah, nice ol girl... Great to see the release too
  10. To my ol mate and best friend (my dad) Don. I drove the hobbit launch on the back of my trusty SS ute up to dads, and took him for a couple trips out in the tinny, and some land based fishing as well All went well, dad carving it up with his his, way too old servo prawns and some cooked prawns as well. lol. I stuck with my soft plastics and blades, boating a good feed of flatheads over two days of boat fishing Both of us silly ol buggers released most of our catch, but a small amount found their way onto the BBQ. .Anyway....... Dad, happy birthday, love you mate.
  11. Sounds very promising, thank you very much for your reply. I appreciate it very much.
  12. Hey Raiders, thinking of taking the Quintrex up the Hunter river between Raymond Terrace and Morpeth. A little bit of lure action perhaps ??? Is there any advice from fellow Raiders, do you think it would be a wasted effort ??? I was just watching a little mpeg on bream lure fishing on the Hunter river near Tomago. Curious and keen to have a go... What do you guys think. ???
  13. ............ Thinking, that's the go. Thanks heaps for steering me in the right direction.
  14. Yeah, guess I didn't take into consideration all of the identified negative points associated with a metal box, a rethink may be order hhmmmm, plastic tub ??? Thanks Raiders, I really do appreciate your input. Regards Rod.
  15. Just traded in the ol girl (Stacer 395) in on a 385 Quinnie with a Yammy 15. The motor is pull start, but has nav lights and a fish finder. The electrics are tucked up under the gunnels, and come out at the rear of the back bench seat. I went to a large retail shop, and found a black powder coated, tin style tool box for $15. I also bought a battery for $66. The battery I bought fits inside the box like a hand in a glove. My intention is to use a metal hole saw, and cut a hole in the side of the box enabling me to feed the + and - cables into the box, and attach them to the battery terminals once inside the box. I may also put a division in the box (like in a tackle box) securing the battery in its own section, giving me another section to put other stuff like tools, containers etc. So Raiders, What do you think of my battery box idea? Have you got any suggestions on this, could this be done differently, or should I just go for it? What do you think? Looking forward to any feedback, Thanks Raiders.
  16. ......... OOPS. What I should have posted was, the new tinnie is a Quintrex. Oh well, same result I guess.
  17. Arghhh, that's oar - some
  18. Go the Rum............
  19. That's a very pleasing result, and I hope the fish gods smile down on me when I christen it Thank you very much for your reply
  20. Hey raiders, Just wanting to get a little feedback if I may. I just traded a 4mtr Stacer runabout, with a 25hp outboard that is just a little too heavy for me to handle on my own, on a 2009 Stacer 15hp ... 3.85mtr The new boat has a flat floor with marine carpet, I know that I will be able to handle it a heck of a lot better on my own unlike the previous model, are there other raiders that own, use or have fished from Stacer tinnies of this size? If so, how did you find the fishing from this little beast? I live at Raymond Terrace, and will put her in at various spots like, Lemon Tree, Karuah, Forster and Laurieton. I might even venture down to Bne Waters or Lake Mq. Any feedback will be much appreciated, with thanks. HOBBITT (Rod)
  21. Sounds like a plan, will check the Ash out (@hi tide)..... Don't fancy sinking in the mud Thanks for your tips. Rod.
  22. Thanks cob, I will take your advice on board and, with any luck catch a feed. GR8 WORK.
  23. Drove out to Lemon Tree Passage and checked out the boat ramp (nice) and I am wondering what the fishing would be like up the river, I would be using bait and sp's, very keen to hit the water in a 3.95mtr tinnie 25hp. Any feed back for this area would be much appreciated, thanks raiders. Rod Oh, and happy fathers day to all the dads.
