  1. And one for Tailor with a wire trace and Limerick hook! This whole thread has brought back so many joyful memories for me of times past, back to early childhood fishing with handlines on Lake Illawarra at Windang Everybody (almost anyway) used the old cork handlines. I had a few dozen of the corks, but sanded them down to make Jewfish bobby's- wasn't thinking of "History" then
  2. Hi Blackfish- Yes you're right Spook is pointy-er rounded face- I just found a heap of unused freshwater lures in a giant Plano box and a couple of Spooks in there. all the lures in box are brand new I' ll put pics up tomorrow
  3. That's a great part of our fishing history! Capstan and Austiplas were in competition making plastic spools, "hand-caster's" etc - Still have a couple of those photo's to add tomorrow. How interesting your dad was part of it.
  4. This is the "culprit" that started me fishing (or one the same)- all you needed when I was a kid! Good old cork handline. This one was the "Recommended for Flathead" version. Even had a picture of the Flattie on it! Stretchy old nylon. Last one for today.
  5. In the centre is a Sawfish 'saw- the points are both really strong and extremely sharp- used by different nationalities as weapons. You certainly wouldn't want to be struck by one
  6. "Aeroplane" spinner-style "knock-off's- one of Australia's iconic Murray Cod lures
  7. A couple of shark hooks, odd giant long-shank, super thick 'set-line' hook, harpoon head and a size card of old Mustad 9555B bronze bait-holders
  8. Great old line "Weiss Perlon"- note not nylon but "Perlon" great abrasion resistance, made by Bayer Germany. Came to Aust in giant "hanks" and was spooled up above the shop (Weiss Supermarket) in Broadway (Sydney) line arrived in only 2 colours- either green or clear, then was dyed in the following colours: dark green, dark blue, light blue, red, pink, black, brown, sand and multi-colour. Available in any length you wanted from 50 mtr's to 5,000 mtr's, 2 lb to 250 lb. Weiss used to give free samples of requested line strength on these 'cards'. There was also a "2nd Grade" which was basically the same line, but not 'highly-polished' (which meant slightly uneven 'uniform' diameter. Second Grade was fantastic for handline fishing as it provided superior grip with wet hands. Still have a couple of 2nd Grade handlines I used to use for Flattie fishing outside. Have a couple of giant spools (about 2,500 mtr's) of both 4 and 8 kg "multi-colour
  9. DAM 550 -made in Germany, these were 'high-end' reels in their day- one of the more 'robust and reliable' of the large size threadline's of yesteryear! The series had 5 models 550 largest down to 110 "microlite"- the mid size "Finessa" was really popular in Aust
  10. These are WK's -like an arrow but tapered and a hole through the centre like in "LUK's"- I think these are fairly rare for a mass produced lure- probably because most have been eaten by Mackerel etc!
  11. An "Arrowhead" in centre, old Heddon (can't remember name- maybe "Spook") on left and classic "Super Duper" on right
  12. Old lures- from top left clockwise in- Devon minnow-'squared' body,Japanese commercial feather jig, WK 'Bristle' with retained hook and pink skirt, "golf ball lure", cork Bass plug,Baltic Bobber with molded-in hooks, O/Seas Squid spike (early one!) Pegron Tiger Minnow, 2 x Bucktail "Canada" Jigs and in centre good old Baltic Minnow
  13. This a shot from inside of nice old 'leadlight' cabinet- the top shelf is all overheads from Heddon's to Seascapes- there's about 60 odd reels in this shelf
  14. A few Alvey's including a "VB" and a"Bundy Rum" 6 inch -green at left , then black in centre- the hook card is of original Mustad "Wide-Gape" hooks- one of the original 'circle' hooks- highly favoured by Deep sea fisho's for Flatties in particular- anyone thinking circle hooks are a "new" innovation- well this card of sizes is 55 years old!
  15. Sorry for slow replies! Yes Paddy under pool table in a box somewhere! There are some photo's to come that have quite a few old Anglers Digest mags as "background" also- also old Gregory's Fishing Guide, Anglers Omnibus etc
  16. Whoops! This is line drier
  17. Next wall- includes "Mara" "Taylor Beach Reel" and a line drier for both old mono and fly lines
  18. Few more and old wire style keep basket
  19. Boxed reels and some Smith's Jigs
  20. Hi Blackfish- cool ad! Innovative idea to have 2 diff line capacities/spools and 4.5:1 was super fast for a spin reel back then!
  21. Hi Jim yes I used to wonder that also- shows how "frenzied" the tuna get when they release the bait, as 'lure/hook" not exactly a "fish replica" Cheers Waza
  22. There is also a paper-mache "White Pointer" about 10 ft long hanging from the ceiling! Made for a father-daughter school project- will include a photo of it tomorrow also. Glad everyone's enjoying the posts and big thanks to noelm for starting it
