  1. Im still confused why you didnt just use the slimy for bait to catch something edible
  2. I've knocked over a decent number of beakies on TLD25's matched with 15kg sticks and either 10 or 15kg mono. They'll handle the majority of blacks and striped we get around the banks without too much issue until you can afford to upgrade. The banks isnt overly deep and as long as your boat is mobile enough the 25 should hold enough 15kg for you. Do yourself a favour and bridle rig with circle hooks, you'll never look back
  3. I use WD40 but only a light spray after the reels have been hosed with freshwater. In years past when i wasnt as aware i used to fully submerge my reels in a bucket of soapy water and scrub them
  4. I really want to have a crack at this to. Not that i lose too many lures. I already hand craft my own timber lures for freshwater so id like to broaden my horizons to these as well. I'd appreciate if one of you guys would take the time to do a step by step post :-)
  5. I've had a good look mate and havent notice any major corrosion issues. Would someone like to link me to more info on this?
  6. Think it was pretty tough over the whole weekend for the guys. Report i read only had three marlin tagged, a few sharks and the odd albacore. One yellowfin of 39.5kg i think was also weighed. I fished the Friday and concentrated most of my work between the banks, block and FAD. Had one marlin come across the nose on the back of the banks but showed no interest in the spread. Had heaps of bait on the sounder but very very quiet out there.
  7. I have a 2007 Suzuki 90 with around 450 hrs on it and have no corrosion problems at all. Ive put about 250 of those hours on it in the time i've owned it. Offshore you'll appreciate the extra foot in length IMO as well as the larger canopy as the webster can be a little wet. The Webster draws very little water so can be used in quite shallow water and tows really well on the trailer. Other than a few dollars saving and the very real chance of corrosion with his custom weld job i dont see there is any benefit in buying the smaller of the two. Personally i searched high and low for the 5.2 metre model when i decided to buy but just couldnt find one in my budget range
  8. I'm guessing your boat and trailer weight over 610kg so it'll have to be braked for insurance to cover you Worth checking your towball weight as well. Max rating of 75 and total braked towing capacity of 1100
  9. Ive got electrics on my trailer mate and that is purely only for the fact that i have to have them. Every year i get them fixed for registration and sure as shite within the next two trips they're seized up again. The main problem is that you dunk your trailer in the saltwater and then park it in the sun for the next 8 hours. If you can avoid having brakes i certainly would. I assume what you are towing isnt overly large given you are towing it with a tuscon

I've been told in the past that the poddies are baby flat tail mullet
  11. Couta still I need the water to go up a degree in the next 2 weeks. Got our first beak of the season in november last year in 20.8 degrees off Culburra
  12. Comparing apples and oranges mate. The little lancer punches well above its weight and has been put through hell in the two years ive owned it including the friday of last years bermi comp for those who were mad enough to be out there with us. I think you would be happy with either. The lancer is probably a little more forgiving for a new boat owner learning the ropes. If you intend on doing a lot of bottom bashing or anchoring the webster would be streaks ahead as far as stability goes. The lancer rides very well for a pressed aluminium boat and id say its superior to any quintrex in that regard however the webster will be a lot softer ride than either. Mine is an older lancer 88 model i think so i cant provide too much comment on the newer ones. I don't think any boat is going to be perfect for every situation so it really does come down to what you want to do
  13. Sigma, jervis bay can be a cruel mistress lol. I put my mates 4.6m webster through its paces there coming back across the bay from honeymoon to callala in 30 odd knots of south westerly. My mate and his nephew had the fear of god in them but other than being a little bit wet the little webster was never in any danger of going over. A lot of the danger of going to sea is the ability of the person behind the wheel. A good skipper will negotiate his way back to shore safely in just about anything in these modern day boats. Sometimes you just have to take your time. I am a big fan of the websters and was looking for a 5.2 myself when purchasing my boat but just couldnt find one at a reasonable price. I will second what someone else has said in that they are prone to broaching so its important you keep that nose up in a following sea. They also dont appreciate a sharp turn with the single motor cavitating. I found the short nose meant straight into short sharp chop isnt great either however going a bit quicker stopped us copping too many to the face. I'd own one without hesitation. I currently have a Savage Lancer 5.3 with a 90 4 stroke suzi on it and comfortably fish the shelf when conditions allow
  14. All my lures to date are floating. I started out using balsa but have found poplar to be a superior material. It carves really well, is readily available by going for a walk around town and is really strong as far as holding the hook hangers in. My paint jobs are pretty poor and my bibs a bit rough but with these ones im really happy with the swimming action. I've also included a pic of my first fish on one of my lures. This one was made of balsa. You'll not the rear hook is missing as it got caught in the carpet and pulled out. Personally i think it was more to do with a dodgy gluing job than the timber itself. Ive since repaired it and it seems fine
  15. How long ago did you catch your bass mate? On a lure or bait?
  16. My cousin gets his livies over near the chip mill wharf. Mowarry is about half way to greencape and is pretty popular with the kingy fisherman. One of the pro's was working the area when i was there a couple of weeks ago. We done no good on the jig
  17. Christ Nick id be losing my shit if i was you. Ive read far too many of these types of stories about quintrex in the last couple of years
  18. Missing it this year. Something to do with my wedding or some rubbish
  19. G'day Neil, Just turning out a few small divers for myself at the moment mostly targeting bass, yella's and then a couple smaller ones for redfin and trout. I fished burrinjuck sunday before last looking for a yella but only managed a small redfin on one of my lures and a couple of carp
  20. I've only done a bit of fishing down that way but there are a couple of starting marks here for you to have a look at http://fishingspots.scentblazer.com/?r=reset Its a pretty spikey bottom in most places so make sure you take plenty of lead
  21. Thanks for that report mate. Ill be chasing the stick fish on the 25th, 28th and 29th of this month around that area. Think we got our first fish on the 18th of November last year in 20.8 degree water
  22. I live in goulburn which is very close to pejar. Its a tough fishery but over the years there have been some really large trout come out of it. Not for me personally unfortunately. It seems to fish well on first light and dusk for most people. The snakes are quite friendly out there as well and like to say hello often. My best success out there has been on a pink tassie where i managed five fish in the afternoon. I haven't heard of anyone catching a stocked bass out of there as yet but i did have a follow the other week when testing a few of my home made lures that looked to have the colouring of a bass. I may head out there myself one afternoon soon if this wind ever stops
  23. The blokes in the fishing club must not like you mate lol
  24. You done well to negotiate some stuckeys out of someone mate. They're as rare as hens teeth
