  1. Thanks Dicko! I have asked the seller about the motor and he said the motor has been replaced 12 months ago and runs with no issues now.. as ive mentioned, i already taking a risk by buying a 2nd hand boat (just like buying a 2nd hand car!) .. so risk can only get worse but then again as you said, its only 2K im gambling with... ummmmm... Will have a good look at the boat tonight...
  2. Geoff, Many thanks for the golden advice! I will go and have a look at the boat tonight and see how i "feel' .. I do understand that Chrysler is not the best outboard motor around (after through online researches) but then again its a 2nd hand motor and im taking a risk buying a second hand boat+motor ... but what do you mean by "most motors on this model boat will be getting rather tired so walking away from this one to look at another may not make the problem go away". .. did u mean that the boat will be too heavy/big for the motor? how heavy would a boat of this size be? Pelican, Really appriciate your advice.. im only after a aluminium boat which may car can pull (car's towing capacity is only 550KG) and capable of fishing rivers, lakes and may be bays... i thought 14ft is good size to fit 4 people comfortably..and something econimical as well.. since this will be my first time buying a boat i wouldnt want anything fancy.. I have tried contacting Craig @ Huett marine to no avail..great bloke, gave me heaps of advice last time.. I think one of the benches are modified .. will have a closer look tonight...
  3. $1500 .. owner said he'll put a brand new battery and trailor lights .. my budget is 2K .. I know, there's plenty of boats but im restricted to a tinny as i have a normal 4cyl car (check my other posts! ) .. true! if i end up getting this boat then im already planning to paint it and do it up a bit.. how much would it cost to paint a tinny of this size?.. Chrysler motors no good?..
  4. All, I am thinking of buying this tinny. Since i do not know anything about boats i would like to know you guys opinion.. Its a 14ft Quintrex with 30HP Chrysler motor..owner claims that the motor running well and the boat and trailer is registered till December 2009. No leaks or holes in the hull and the trailer is in good condition..I yet to view the boat (most probably tonight).. So, if the above mentioned are true is it worth buying? .. or is there anything i need to consider or look for before viewing the boat?.. Any advice is highly appriciated.. attached are some pics...
  5. Groper : we thought that too but it was very strange to see no ones around!!!! and the doors were securely locked and shut! have no idea what has happened there... Bass Beginner : Thanks mate..
  6. ...Just got back from a quick morning LB session @ Wisemans Ferry... Me and my mate were pumped to score some good bream and flatties and..umm..perhaps a jewie and were praying it not to rain.. I always liked the drive down there and somewhere around Maroota saw this "joy ride went wrong" scene ... it wouldve been around 7am and this car fully smashed on this tree which was uprooted..we could see that the engine was still warm (cos it was cold outside, u could see the steam coming out)..and no one was around..me and my mate panicked and jumped out of our car only to find NO ONE in that car..somewhat wierd situation as we couldnt see any tow truck, cop car or even a local around..ummm..may be some idiot stole this car and went for a joy ride.. anyways, back to fishing.. we got to our spot around 7.30 am..bottom of the tide..so we spent some time rigging the rods and having brekky..first cast hit the water around 8.15 and my 4lb setup had a massive bite straight away but soon as i strike it got snagged!! wouldve been a good fish..however after many many many big bites and snags, scored this 35cm (Im pretty sure it was 35 as i measured it against my tackle box and its tail hung out..tackle box is 25cm long) EP..it did put up a nice fight.. Caught on 4lb mono set up on a hawkesbury prawn..however released it after the photo session as it is the spawning season for EPs and it is prohibited to keep them... ..nothing much after that fish except few more bites and one dropped approx 30cm flattie!.. once again....it was fun to get out there and spend some time by the water...
  7. Hi All, As some of you may know (from this page!) im looking to buy a boat, preferbly a tinnie..which can be towed by my humble 4cyl Lancer...The car manufacturer/dealership says my car can tow upto 750KG "breaked" and 1.2tonne "breaked" .. So..the question is, what is the difference between "breaked" and "unbreaked" trailers..apart from the obvious fact, breaks .. Is there any structural difference?..would the tow ball/bar be different from each types of trailer?.. Any info would help as im still in the "doing your home work before buying a boat" phase
  8. good stuff simmo! ..hope the fish tasted as sweet as the achievement!
  9. Scale and clean/wash the fish in cold water with abit of lime juice added..that kills the "fishy" odour..then massage in some salt and pepper..leave for atleast 1/2 in the fridge and then deep fry in vegetable oil.. ..goes down well with a few Hint : you can even chew the small bones, if deep fried well...
  10. try Thai green curried Travelly fillets !! bloody awsome..the readymade green curry paste from the supermarkets would do! ..ah..dont forget the jasmine rice as well.. ..As the DILMAH man says.. DO TRY IT !!
  11. Awsome stuff mate!! those fillets look YUMMMM!!! ...by the way, what happened to that mate of urs?..did he end up fishing with u?

    Buying A Boat

6cyl makes a huge different over a 4cyl eh?... ummm..but that being said ive seen tiny hyundai pulling decent boats.. :/ whoa! $2300 ! my budget it self for a runabout is less than 2k! haha..cos its gonna be my 1st! .... ummm.. unless i go for a smaller one? u have indeed enlightned me! u also make me consider selling my car and get a 4wd now! lol my car's torque is only 198nm @ 4250rpm.. would that be enough to tow a runabout?

    Buying A Boat

Hi All, I am thinking of buying a boat..a small runabout that is! now that i have reserved spare $$$$ for the "investment", im moving on to more practical things which need to be considered when choosing the boat.. I am after a fibreglass runabout around 4-4.2M mark, with a decent motor..would anyone know how much a boat in that range weighes?.. 'cos my car can only pull 550Kg's unbreaked (well, according to the users manual!) .. Ive tried calling afew boat dealerships but they were unable to answer my above question! ...any advice, suggestion is appreciated..
