    Mercury ID

Looking at a second hand Mercury for sale but can't seem to find much info online would be handy if someone can interpret the following Model 1F10301BK Serial 1R043519 F9.9EH and in a square box the letters BA Is this an Australian delivery and what year is it? Thanks
  2. I have a Polycraft Tuffy fitted with a Parsun 9.8 hp short shaft (don't judge me it came with the boat) but I am finding it a bit hard on the back without power tilt and trim. So I thought that I would look for a 15 hp (maximum rate allowed) with electric start & power tilt & trim in a short shaft but all of the main manufacturer's only make electric start & tilt & trim in their long shaft motors. So I have been toying with the idea of fitting a jack plate to lift the long shaft motor up. Any way I did some measurements and I always thought that to have a short shaft your transom height from top of transom to lowest part of hull should be 15" but mine measures almost 18" The Parsun cavitation plate lines up with the bottom of the hull but from the cavitation plate 15" comes to the top mounting bolt hole again I thought that you measured from the cavitation plate to where the mounting bracket sits on the transom. So are the Parsuns short motor actually longer that the standard 15"? The present set up seems to cavitate under certain running conditions. Any way I guess my question is would a long shaft Suzuki/Yamaha be suitable for my boat and if necessary I am happy to fit an adjustable jack plate to raise up that extra 2" approximately.

    Salt away

To those of you that use Salt away on your boat do you leave it on the boat or do you rinse it off ?
  4. https://autodealersupplier.com.au/product-category/marine-outboards/ Has anyone had any dealings with this site? They report to sell older stock clearance item outboards some of the prices seem a bit hard to believe any thoughts?
  5. Excellent thank you for the responses I will pass it on
  6. Thank you every one for your input ended up going for the CER-S-701ML casting weight 1-15 g and yes it is a 1 piece but it will stay in the boat as I am only over the road from where I will be fishing. Managed to pick the rod up for $30 off retail price.
  7. A mate sent me these 2 photos of fish for ID caught off the rocks out of Tathra he said that the whiting looking fish had sharp teeth.
  8. Looking at the Okuma Cerros range so my next question is which one. I will mainly be targeting flathead in depths from 5 - 10 metres with Zman 2.5" and 4" soft plastics with 1/8oz - 1/4oz jig heads. So my 2 options are CER-S-701L casting weight 1-8 g or CER-S-701ML casting weight 1-15 g Which would be my best option please.
  9. Just getting into lure fishing with soft plastics and I am looking at a suitable rod but don't want to spend a fortune. Any recommendations for a reasonably priced rod?

    Tilt & Trim

Not worried about current shortage of outboards but thinking into the future, does anyone currently make a 15 H.P. Four stroke outboard with Electric start & Power tilt and trim? Thanks
  11. Am I correct in saying that this is a Shovel Nose Shark?
  12. Regardless of what you may think of Parsun outboards my neighbour wants his outboard serviced my question relates to the oil change. It appears on paper that the 9.8 4 stroke doesn't have an oil filter similar to other well know small outboards. Does anyone know if there is a filter screen or such that can be cleaned?

    Brake calipers

Update on brake repair I received the replacement calipers within 24 hours of my talking to Marc at ECTBS and ordered replacement stainless components from Transtyle Trailers in Victoria. Everything fitted spot on so there should be no more problems. Thanks to every one for their input.

    Brake calipers

Here is the follow up to my caliper issue. I contacted Easytow and told them that I was not happy with their response but never received a reply. So I again contacted Deemaxx in the USA and as a result Chuck Deegear the owner arranged for four complete replacement calipers to be sent from their Australian distributer ECTBS in NSW for $50 each which I was more than happy with. It appears that a few calipers did slip through with mild steel pistons instead of stainless steel.

    Brake calipers

You think that one is bad have a look at this one. And here is the reply that I got from Easytow: Back in the day Stainless Deemax calipers were made without stainless steel pistons, the latest current model does however come with them and I would be able to supply you 4 and look after you on price. Attached is a quote for them. I got a reply from Deemaxx in the USA and they were very concerned so I will post the follow up.

    Brake calipers

Time to replace brake pads on my Easytow alloy trailer which is fitted with hydraulic brakes they are Deemaxx calipers which are stainless steel and the pads are stainless steel backed but the pistons appear to be only mild steel. My question is why would they fit stainless steel calipers with mild steel pistons? Has anyone had experience with these calipers? I have sent an email to Easytow and await their reply as to whether this is right and if replacement stainless steel pistons are available as well as a seal kit.

    Flushing muffs

Tried out the new muffs, whilst not a perfect seal the cups are soft rubber and do seal better than my other ones. You always have loss of water through the prop and other vents in the leg any way so as long as you have a reasonable stream from the tell tale I believe that is enough. The frame is only just long enough to fit my 175 Suzuki so that is something to watch out for. They were bought from Hunt's Marine.

    Flushing muffs

I have ordered a set of muffs that have a stainless frame and the cups are made from rubber not plastic. There is only one inlet but if they seal o/k I can't see that being a problem and we don't have very high water pressure here any way and the sealing is the biggest issue. I will post when they arrive and I have had a chance to use them.

    Flushing muffs

I am trying to find the best possible outboard flushing muffs. I do flush my outboard in a container but then I flush with salt away through the muffs, but I am yet to find any that seal really good. Can any one recommend a brand that they have found suitable. They are for a DF175 Suzuki, I would like bigger and softer rubbers if possible.

  23. You know how it is you never have the right size washer that you need when repairing reels. So is there a kit available that has an assortment of flat and shim washers and I mean very small sizes as a lot of the bigger ones you can make from shim material.

    C-Map Reveal

Has anyone got the C-Map Reveal sd card installed on their sounder I am particulay interested in the Bermagui Narooma area and was wondering does it show detail for Montague Island as well as the 4, 6 & 12 mile reefs? Does it show all of the area listed or just select parts?
  25. Has any one been using the Kabura sliding jigs? Looks like these are the new must have jig from Japan and are popular in New Zealand. Would like to know if they work any better or just another gimmick to catch fisher people. Check them out on YouTube.
