  1. You could also go down the path of using vinegar. Do a google search there are lots of sites in regard to using this method.
  2. I have always flushed my motor in a cut down bin and was very surprised how much build up there was in the water jacket when replacing the anodes at the 200 hrs service. So now I flush in the bin and then use saltaway via the ear muffs so will be interested next time I change the anodes.

    Paying GST

There is warranty but it would have to be back to Japan so that is a risk that you take and I don't know what the Australian suppliers would do. Because the ones I bought are JDM I take the risk, I now have 6 JDM electric reels and I guess that I am fortunate to be able to service my own reels the oldest reel is 6 years and other than replace bearings or "o" rings I have never had any other issues. But I service all of my reels every 12 months.

    Paying GST

Package turned up today 7 days from Japan and here I am I have been waiting 15 days for something to be delivered from Sydney (go figure) I purchased 2 Shimano electric reels from Asian Portal Fishing and saved $1,000.00 compared to buying them in Australia. I do try to support local suppliers when possible but this was too good to pass up. As far as my original question about customs and GST the parcel arrived at my door free postage with no request for further payment.

    Paying GST

I have purchased some fishing gear from Japan and they do not include the GST which I was aware of but I just want to know how I go about paying the GST when the goods arrive. Do I pay at the Post office before the goods are released? Or do I receive some sort of notice from customs etc?
  7. Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the Electric Shimano 3000 XP and the Shimano 16 plays 3000 reels please.
  8. Lowrance tells me that C-Map Contour Plus is only available for the USA pre loaded Australia only gets the C-Map Enhanced pre loaded so I have managed to pick up a new C-Map Max N + from an online seller so I will see how that goes.

    Salt Away

I have just been converted to using Salt-Away for flushing my outboard and washing boat and trailer. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked on removing the build up on my trailer which is aluminium. My question is when you fill up the mixer to wash the boat the mixer bowl obviously gets diluted as you are using it at so at what stage do you stop washing, drain the bowl and refill with fresh solution? Because eventually the bowl is only water.
  10. I can't seem to make much headway on this matter I was hoping that others could tell me what they are using. Looks like the C-Map Reveal may not cover the area that I want so maybe my choices are Navionics Platinum or one of the C-Map cards. What is every one using at the moment
  11. I am going to update my mapping card from my current 10 year old Navionics Gold to either the C-Map Reveal or the Navionics Platinum Plus I am particularly interested in fishing around the Bermagui, Narooma, Tathra areas. Can anyone make a recommendation on which would likely be the better choice? I like the sea bed contours of the C-Map but wondering if this is detailed in the areas I would be fishing.
  12. A mate of mine has a Yamaha 70 hp four stroke and wants to be able to display engine and fuel data on his HDS Live. There is no nmea 2000 backbone fitted to the boat but he does have 2 Yamaha CY8 Multi Function gauges. So my question is what is required to connect the Yamaha to a nmea backbone is there a loom to go from the back of the gauges or direct from the engine? I understand that a nmea backbone will also have to be fitted and are you able to keep the existing Yamaha gauges as well.
  13. I have ordered a Lowrance Precision 9 for my Auto Pilot and my questions are: Is this only a compass without a GPS? and if I have to still run a separate GPS antenna I have 2 options I have a Lowrance Point1 AP and a Garmin 19X ready to install which one would be best for GPS use? As I have a hardtop cab aluminium boat can the Precision 9 be mounted inside the cab to get it as low as possible to the waterline rather than on the roof where the GPS would be mounted?
  14. Caught a heap of these out at Montague Island yesterday as soon as the burley was used kids had a ball catching them but what are they and can they be used for live or dead bait.

    Props

Looks like first thing I need to do is see what current WOT revs are so when I get a flat day I will go for a run. Thanks for all the input.
  16. I have a HDS Live 12 for my fish finder with a 3 in 1 transducer and I am thinking of fitting an Airmar TM265LH 1kw chirp transducer for deep water but keeping the 3 in 1 so I can still have Downscan in shallower water. So have any Barcrusher owners fitted 2 transducers to their boat? and if so where? I was considering fitting the 1 kw on the starboard side mounting plate and relocate the 3 in 1 on the starboard side outboard pod either on the outside or the inside walls rather that to the port side under the berley pot. As I have trim tabs fitted there is no room to mount both transducers side by side. starboard

    Props

I have a 6.7 mtr aluminium boat (Barcrusher) fitted with a DF175APX. The motor came fitted with a 3X16X18.5R prop and I have a spare prop which is a 3X15X21R. Can someone explain what the effect of changing props would have on performance or fuel economy etc.and which would be best fitted to my boat which is only used for fishing off shore

    Solar charger

As always there is lots of research to be done and always different opinions but basically all I want to do is trickle charge when the boat is not being used for weeks at a time rather than get the charger out the day before using the boat to bring the batteries up to full charge.

    Solar charger

For those that have set up a solar trickle charger on their boat just wondering what panel and controller you have used please.
  20. After several tests and checks from Lowrance here is their final answer "Hi,Thank you for the update, we will be testing this on our end, most likely will a glitch on the system, if that's the case then it should get sorted on the next software release" Regards, Mike. 21. HDS9 CarbonI have just replaced my HDS Gen 3 with a HDS Carbon and my problem is that whenever I go to waypoints and set a waypoint and then the screen goes back to the map screen my preset Data Overlay information has disappeared I then have to go to the Data Overlay button and press this icon to get the information back. I have saved the overlay from set up but problem exists. I have the Auto Pilot screen on this unit as well. However I did not have this issue with the previous Gen 3
  22. My set up is that I have one battery solely for the motor and one battery for everything else sounders - auto pilot- fridge - electric reels - pie warmer etc. Of course the motor is left running when using electric reels and I have a volt meter read out and a low voltage alarm on the sounder for when motor is not running. VSR Operation: The Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR) allows two batteries to be charged at the same time. When the engine is started and the start battery reaches 13.7 volts, the VSR engages, allowing two battery banks (start and house) to be charged simultaneously. When the voltage drops below 12.8 volts (eg. the engine is stopped), the VSR disengages, separating the batteries. This system eliminates the possibility of draining the wrong battery and protects sensitive electronic equipment powered from the house battery from harmful engine start up spikes. Decided to go with Supercharge Allrounder batteries.

  24. Interesting quote from Suzuki page on batteries "Caution: Avoid using deep cycle battery, maintenance-free battery, lithium battery or gel cell battery"
