  1. Thanks heaps guys for the advice, will definately try these things. Like I said, I don't have gangs, should I get them?
  2. Thanks man, if I use two snelled hooks on a running sinker rig with a pilchard or mullet strip would that be what you half meant. Cheers
  3. Awesome snaps of info guys, thanks. Any other baits/ rigs I can use? Also should I fish in the afternoon and early afternoon? I need clarification. I don't have gangs, are they completely nessesary? Thanks
  4. Alright experts, taking a step away from my estuaries on Sunday, going on a very delayed trip to Avoca beach. Having second thoughts on my trip as I have no idea what to do at all. So far I know that I need to cast in gutters, and fish near the lake, according to Brew. I have a good 12' Saratoga surf combo and a shimano fish quest 6' combo for rods. Going for (as the title suggests) sambos and tailor, using bait only. What should I use for bait, rigs, times and tides. As for the latter, do they matter? Finally, any suggestions on hooks and leader line? Thanks

  6. Went down to Roseville chase for mullet today but had no luck. Decided to walk down to a rocky drop to the left to find a couple fishing there. Fished next to them and on the first cast, managed to snag a little tailor on a pillie. The couple said they were fishing for an hour with no luck then I came along and got one as if it was nothing. Lol. Hooked a big leatherjacket only to find half a hook left when lifting. A few bites later, a couple of blokes turned up and after watching me get a big bite they literally casted right where my line was, hoping to catch one. Two tarwhine later, I got fed up and left quietly, not wanting to make a scene. Slightly rude but karma I guess right? A pretty quiet trip all considered but no worries.
  7. Hey guys, I was walking along near echo point at Roseville chase last week at rising tide and couldn't help but notice that there were plenty on big sea mullet doing acrobatics and jumping out of the waters, and they were biting! I tired to catch them with a float and bread but wasn't prepared. Managed a hook-up but it got spat out. I wanted to know if anybody could give me some advice on how to use bread dough. Or bread. Any recipes or methods would be much appreciated. I have all the rigs prepared and all I need is good bait. Thanks in advance cheers Arthur
  8. Thanks guys, will definately try these things. Wish me luck

    Flattie

Hey guys, I just realised a few days ago that I had never landed a flathead before. . In my short fishing career, I have only caught bream, tailor, leatherjacket and a few others. I feel as if I cannot accomplish myself as a fisherman if I don't catch one soon. I have appropriate tackle, so basically all the gear and no idea. All I am asking for is locations (not secret spots just general) bait or lures and methods land based. Thanks
  12. Alright cool I will try that, in the meantime while I look for it, does anybody have any hook size, sinker, soot and float recommendations? Anyone, Anyone?
  13. Headed out to Illawong bay today despite the conditions for an afternoon/early night fishing trip for hair tail. Managed a small tailor about 25cm near the end and jagged a just legal bream accidentally. Didn't get a hairie but fun still. Gonna try further up coal and candle and might report on it. No pics taken as they were not worth snapping
  14. Yo guys, I wanted to start fishing for luderick since apparently they taste great and fight well too. I have no idea how to target them, what size Hooks to use, spots, tackle or methods. All I know is that I can use weed for bait. Any help would me greatly appreciated and thanks in advance guys. P.S I have a really low budget so anything on the cheaper side for tackle would be good Cheers guys
  15. Alright then, let's suppose for one second that you were right, I am pretty sure that it wasn't a longtom (since I don't know where they hang out) and I was in coal and candle btw. If there a longtom there then I will give you the benefit of the doubt. But I still don't believe you
  16. Hi schembo, there are definately leatherjacket coming out, some thumpers too (if you know how to catch them) all those types of bait mentioned work. There are jewfish, hair tail, tailor, bream, bonito, whiting, leatherjacket, baby snapper, flathead, grunter, squid and yakkas (that I know of) by the truckload at Illawong point/bay down coal & candle close to Akuna bay. Any tackle from 4' rods and 2 pound line to 12' rods and 50 pound line will work. From floats to bottom fishing there is a range of ways to fish here. Lures have never worked for me but I'm terrible at them so that's just me. Land based is also good, if you decide to come back. Loads of fish dwell near the drop offs so don't worry. Good luck and enjoy. Cheers
  17. Nah mate better to use trebles with a trace. Use a baiting needle with a pillie to target them, under a float and light too. They taste ok if bled and eaten fresh. Not all tackle shops sell tackle for them but some Asian tackle outlets do. Good luck and tight lines.
  18. Decent haul of bream there dave, congrats. How was the feed?
  19. For berley i go to a fishmarket or shop (I have a friend working at one) and if they clean fish there the ask them to collect their dirty water and use that with a water gun. Sure it's fresh water so don't use a lot or things will go bad. The scent will most likely be very strong so definately don't use a lot. This dosen't feed the fish but attracts them. After soaking my bait in the water I cast quickly before they leave. along with a weird diamond shaped fish which I think is called a silver moony (?) Does it look like this? If so then its a butterbream/butter fish/diamond fish/silvermooney. but silver mooney usually have stripes across their face
  20. what is coal and candle? never heard of it before
  21. I seriously need help about fishing at illawong, any way you could get me some tips?
