  1. Hey guys, instead of asking a question, this time I wanna give aome back. Quite a lot of people especially jewie fishos will know stuff on the topic. But anyhoo lets get to it. When fishing for yellowtail, sometimes berley is necessary, sometimes not. If you want, fine breadcrumbs and pillie frames will do the trick. Use a small float, then a usual float rig except with 3 droppers and a rocket sinker at the bottom. On the first top dropper, close to the top, should be a long shank hook number 6 at least. Use a bundle of pillie bits on this for by catch. (Trevalley or tailor etc etc). Then the bottom two droppers, tie number 12 or number 10 hooks for the yakkas on tiny cubes of pillie with skin on. Fish on jetties or estuary breakwalls with this method around 4 this time of year or an hour before dark most times. In about 30 mins you should have your limit. Hope this helps. Cheers
  2. Dod you post a report? I'd love to read it.
  3. On my species list, I have 2 more fish to tick off. A jewie (of course) and a grouper. Or that fat fish that eats crabs. Firstly, how do I catch crabs and where. Secondly how how I hook crabs and where should I fish for the grouper. Lastly, are there any tactics I should know about fishing for grouper? Thanks
  4. Ok mate, I say this yo a lot of people but try the hawkesbury river again! Its awesome and the tributaries (cowan, smiths, coal and candle) are good too. A bit of effort especially in winter can produce fish. If you're willing to, travel up to the central coast and fish avoca rocks etc. Try using the smaller hooks til you have more experience. Start searching in fishraider top right while waiting for more replies. I reccommend you target flathead or whiting for good eating (in my experience) once again, search up. Another place to reccommend is the entrance. Target specific species rather than catch anything, catch rates skyrocket. Sorry if I wasn't that much help. Good luck anyway though mate. Cheers P.S are you using bait or lures? If bait then paternoster or running sinker rig. Look them up on web. Cya
  5. As mentioned on a previous forum, I'm heading down to narrabeen lagoon for fleathead. I have lures to flick (Sp's and Hb's) but I also wanted to use bait. I have fresh dead yakkas, frozen pilchards and of course, live poddies. Which should I use? Obviously the poddies but should I use yakkas or pillies for cut/whole bait? And how should I rig what I use? I have three rods, one for lures and two for bait to soak. Thanks guys.
  6. Good haul of flatties. I can barely manage a few
  7. Ah, fishing in winter is quiet sometimes. I dunno about hacking or botany, seen pretty good reports on them. Man it really depends what your trying to catch. You can get bream and flathead most places but maybe try hawkesbury/cowan or tributaries from them. Just suggesting what I trust by the way. Tell us what your targeting and I'm sure that fellow raiders will hook you up. A word to the wise, try and target things exactly rather than "catch anything". Especially on boats. Sorry for trearing you like a newbie. Just happy to help. Good luck
  8. All I needed guys, thanks
  9. I meant a bottom rig. The rig you showed me is interesting but wheres the sinker? I mean wouldn't the poddy swin away? Thanks
  10. How do I hook a poddy mullet on a 2/0 suicide hook? Just need to know this plus an actual rig to use them as live bait. Thanks guys and feel free to hand out any other tips when jetty fishing with live poddies.
  11. Oh sorry, I meant on the beach. How would I rig up a whole squid? I saw a guy on YouTube catch a 30kg Jewie on squid rings. Thanks
  12. Hello people and welcome to my probably (and hopefully) most helpful thread to me and fellow raiders I've created in my time in fishraider. Tackling that first jewfish. I probably need to know everything. I am landbased and I have a rod and a location. I have access to live and fresh yakkas on location. Please help here guys since I literally have little to no idea. What rig? What tide? What moon phase? What size hooks and sinkers? How heavy leader? Literally everything. Thanks guys
  13. And erring on the side of caution. Can someonw please give me an exact gulp soft plastic for flathead there? I have a few but I wanna see what works Thanks
  14. Ahh, today was a nice day fishing, but I won't bore you with the details. Or the fish. Let's get to the point. I have soft plastics, jig heads, a rod, a wetsuit and a car. Where should I fish at Narrabeen lake? Location wise. Going for flathead and whiting land based. Thanks.
  15. Hey guys, yesterday I headed down to a shop and picked two lures for a good bargain (HB) Do I need mono/fluorocarbon leader? I'm using braid for mainline. I have heard it affects the action. Maybe I should use an FG knot or double uni. Thanks guys
  16. Interesting points but I am thinking more Floatstop-Bead-Float----------------Swivel-----------------------------------dropper and hook----------------------dropper and hook-----------------------------rocket sinker
  17. People say there are many uses to floats. What can I catch with floats besides luderick? And what bait should I use on the float? I have seen people use bread. Thanks
  18. Landbased and a 2-4 kilo rod. Thanks guys for all the helpful replies, I'll see what I can get.
