  1. Mate i would look a silstar Rod, maybe a power tip, these rods a great for their price. i would match that up with a okuma reel. i `am very much a shimano person but own a couple of okumas and think for their price they are excellent reel, and they come with a life time warrenty. i find for this type of fishing it is sometimes best not to take the most expensive gear out with you. when you are rock fishing, equipment take a beating and it is best to keep the good gear good.
  2. well just think about what you could off done with all that money, seeings the winner NO. 6 was paying $24.60 and by chance i got it i will be spending 10x the amount at the fishing store next time
  3. thanks for the help, i will be sure to check out the rods, the braid concept looks good, and sounds like great value for money i also pm fish finder tony about some custom rods and may have one which would suit, it may cost abit more but they are proppaly worth every dollar this will be my frist time at targeting kingies, i am also going to purchase a simano 4000 sustain as well for the sulgs and i will keep the 8000 for lives cant wait
  4. i was fishing of freshwater rocks near harboard diggers on sat afternoon and noticed quiet a few fisho's down there. i was just woundering if there were any raiders there and if they are regulars, as iam looking for people to fish with down of the rocks thanks
  5. thanks for the rply do you think 8-10Kg would be a strong enough rod
  6. well christmas is just around the cornner and i thought that i need to buy some new gear for the new year this summer i plan to have crack at the kingies and just want some advice on a good kit to target these fish i was thinking a new shimano sustain 8000, would this be strong enough to handle these fish in the harbour. the real problem comes with the rod, i have looked online at the G loomis but i am not sure at what weight rod i should get, i want to spend around $400 on the rod and would like any info that people may have on what i should get. i would love a custom rod but i am not sure if they fit into my 400 budget should i look at 8-10Kg rod. i would perfer to have the lightest rod that i can uses on the kingies so i can really feel the fight, any info would be greatly appreciated thanks MARK
  7. hi i have to put my vote on the stradic 2500, for the money they cost you will find it hard to find better. though i am looking forward to seeing their new desing, i have seen pics but thats all. hope they are still well priced and offer the same quality if not more cheers mark
  8. i remember when i frist stared out i was told i would only need two outfits one for beach/rock and one for everything else, this was from my GF who at the time probaly had done more fishing than me. well i bought those two rods. now the collection has grown to 2 light boat rods 2 beach rods 2 river lake rods 2 med to light rods, which when added up to = a couple of thousand dollars. well the funny thing is i have only been fishing for 7 months now. if i keep up this pace i will need another garage to put them in. and people say drinking and drugs are addictive -- fishing is addictive
  9. thanks mate i shall be there hopefully

  12. i am thinking it will be mainly land based- with the possobilities of a boat but it is looking highly unlikely, with the land based is it mainly rock and beach fishing or is there any lakes that run into the beach which would be worth looking at. the main question is it worth takeing beach/rock gear or light lake gear. thanks mark

  17. hi guys i have two shimano rack raiders, one 3-6Kg bait caster and one 3- 5Kg spin match with a stradic 2500 and curado 100B. i have found these two combos to be great and they can cover a wide varrity of fish and wont put a hole in your wallet. though all of the above post are correct and i think it really comes down to your budget, good luck in finding the right set up there are heaps of options out there

  21. feel sorry for the guys who own the boats, though it does give them a chance to clean the underside of their boats
  22. Hi i thought it might be intresting to find out what everyones fav combo is, and what type of fish they intend to target with it my Rack Raider with a stradic 2500 spooled with 10Lb braid would have to be my Fav, i try and try is the key word to catch anything from flats to rat kings on it. great for Sp's Mark
  23. i try once every two weeks though i sometimes hit the beach fishing up during the week though over all not enough. i only got a couple of mates who like to fish and some of them have just gone over seas so my fish days might start to lower if i cant find some one to fish with
  24. in the PC world it does not matter what brand you buy because they all use roughly the same chips, ie. intel... some times you find that you are paying more for a name brand rather than a no name but they have the same chips. i use a PC but if i had to choose and money was not an issue i would choose one of the new MAC s that run both windows and Apple. great computer worth the money
  25. great fish you guy's have got, well done , i have to head out to botany bay,
