Thanks very much for your help, Furuno was recomemed to him, this was a $2000 sounder and a $1000 transducer. i just wanted to confirm that Furuno was a good brand as i don't know too much about them.

Just a quick question what is the best sounder brand or sounder that you can buy. like what is the shimano stella of sounders i have some one who is looking to buy one around the 3K mark, which should be a pritty good sounder at that price. any help will be great

Please help Went to use the boat on the weekend and found that the wheels on the trailer were not moving, this trailer holds a 2.5 tone boat, so they are hydrolic disc brakes. treid using the relese valve and disconnecting the emergency brake system, but still could not get it to unlock. after awhile we manged to un lock 3 of the wheels which we thought was abit strange. the boat had not been used for awhile and as we found out after we jacked up the boat and took the wheel off, was one of the brake pads was stuck on the rotor. the caliper was not putting any pressure on the pad but the pad had rusted on to the rotor. we have alwys washed the brakes and the boat and trailer is regularly serviced, but what i am woundering is how we stop this from happening again. the brakes have to be on when the boat is parked so is there something that we can apply to stop the rust, which would not harm the pad itself please help thanks

G day mate i would have a look at the Shimano sustain 1000, they have just been up graded with all the 2008 new extras, the twin power form memory was not upgraded, i own a sustain 4000 and 8000 and they are very smooth and reliable, the sustain is not much more than the twin power but you are getting all of the 2008 extras with the new design. i have a Pathfinder and i would not go back to anything eles. they like the juice but most of the models you are looking at do. i have driven the pathfinder on sand and towed 1800Kg boats with no problem mark

i must say i have not treid the new stradics but i have a 2008 sustain 4000 and 8000 and i must say that the new design is a pleasure to fish with. the new sustains are a great option if you dont wont to outlay $1000

G day mate if you are looking for a reel that will handle 20lb - 30lb braid and something that will take a beating, you should have a look at the shimano bait runner 4500 and maybe a rapala braid concept stick or the berkly drop shot, you should be able to get this combo for under 500 dollars good luck mate you love it up there

why such a need for okuma or silstar, - custom all the way

mate i was up there early jan, and we caught nearly 90 fish in 4 days of fishing, fish late in lakes or early outside, that's were we had the best luck but i am sure there are some locals on this site who will be able to let you know currrent conditions mark

Mate Before you take the braid off attach the mono and wind on the amount you need to fill the reel. then transfer this to the spare reel, this will allow you to have the exact amount, and eliminates any guess work.

I have been enjoying the information on this web site for a while now, and as I am still relatively new to fishing I have always been not quite sure on the basis of down riggers, what do they do and why use them. Could some please clear up this grey area of mine as it is starting to bug me. Thanks

Mate i have just picked up a shimano sustain 4000, and have matched it with a custom 6 -10Kg fishfinder snapper master special. i have not seen the rod as of yet, should be ready sometime soon, but with the custom rod you can choose exactly what you want. i have even matched the colours of the rod to the sustain and it is looking great. call Tony from Fish from fishfinder, they are a site sponsor and they will sort you out, there is nothing like a custom rod mark

make sure you are applying the resin on a dry day, as if there is too much moisture in the air it will take along time to dry
