  1. Hey Framedtrash. I can't get tomorrow off mate to join your group. (thanks for the information) The boss is taking Friday off.. so lucky me will be at work! Thanks again for the offer mate, if you have another trip organised in the future would jump at the chance. I hope your group smashes the fish tomorrow matey, with reels screaming.. Jas
  2. A quick message from one of the two. Dear Fishing Guru’s. I am appealing to any kind hearted fisho’s who would be willing to share some of their knowledge with two dedicated, but not naturally talented novices. We have been fishing for a while & are pretty familiar with the basics, but the holy grail of angling (catching decent fish of any kind on a regular basis) alludes us still. We have had some brilliant catches, but they are few and far between, when the fish Gods take pity upon us & generally after many $$$$ have been spent on wasted fuel, bait & tackle. Alas many fishing adventures find us with deflated egos, the butt of loved ones ridicule and an ever expanding vocabulary (blue in colour). Please help us fish with pride….. no longer shall we return in shame with rods slung low. Your name: FishDrought (Jason) & Elwood Blues (Dave) Your Location: Croydon Fishing technique: All, Jewies, Kings, Flatties, Taylor, Whiting, Bream, Bonnies, Salmon, Trevally,Yakkas, JD’s, flounder, Squid etc, etc Availability: Generally Weekends but could probably arrange for a weekday too Preferred location: Sydney/Middle Harbour, Botany/Georges, Pt Hacking, Hawkesbury/Pittwater Provide your own gear? Yes Provide your own boat? Yes – nothing special, 4.3 Tinnie gets us on the water & one day will be a fishing beast like Reggies.. All jokes aside, if anyone is interested in sharing their knowledge with us, then we would appreciate it and be attentive students. What we hope to achieve is a better understanding of the art of fishing & finessing what skills we already possess. Look forward to any responses. Thanks Jason
  3. Hi All, I just wanted to add my thanks as well to the organisers & everyone that took part. It was a fantastic day (even if I did turn up late), everyone was welcoming & made themselves available to have a chat, in particular thanks to Reggie for showing me around his Brooker & the advice he gave. I will be ripping the seat out of my Brooker this week & hope to see you on the Bay one day. Also cheers to Global Tackle for the deals. The social was a great example of what I think Fishraider is all about. Top effort & Regards Jason P.s when is the next social?
  4. Thanks fellas, A lot of good info and really appreciated. I must admit that builders stirip thing looks a piece of shed genius haha top marks. Cheers Jason
  5. Hi Raiders, I am looking for some advice regarding fitting a Scotty 1050 to my Tinny. I have mounted the base plate to an aluminium pedestal which will slot down in a rod holder. Now at the moment the tube of the pedestal needs to be shortened & I want to fit a decent slab of wood & high impact rubber between the pedestal plate (downrigger) and the gunnel to disperse the pressure a little better. So the questions: 1, Will that be enough to ensure I don't warp the gunnel as the downrigger & pedestal flexes as the weight travels in the water? or should I fashion a G bracket that could disperse pressure easier? 2, Should I attempt to strengthen the gunnal? The boat is a 4.3m Brooker Runabout with wide gunnal. 3, The boat came with preset rod holders, there is one at the rear and one about half way along the side of the boat. I want to mount the rigger into the holder about halfway along the boat as it is easy to watch and also the rear holder is fitted next to a grab rail and the downrigger will not be able to sit flush? So any ideas / suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Jason
  6. Yeah thinking about going to Georges River/Botany tonight depending on the wind
  7. Good question mate, I always thought that a strike was caused by a charge ememating from the ground as an earth & one from the storm the two charges meet above ground in the air & of course would make use of any conductive materials like graphite fishing rods, swing golf clubs.. But I am probably wrong mate...
  8. Jesus mate, that is awesome! no wonder I don't swim haha an incredible fish..
  9. Thanks for that guy's, I appreciate all the info & will get out there shortly to try the tips out. #By the way looking out at the Harbour from the office window I saw a large number of gulls hitting the water between Mrs Macquaries Chair & the very last moored naval ship this afternoon..
  10. G'Day Raiders. Now not having a lot of Tailor fishing experience I was of the opinion that the best time to catch them was from dawn to afternoon & in relatively calm water, looking for current lines where they could ball up the bait fish. My mate & I were heading out dusk/night on Saturday through Botany which was quite choppy to be honest, I couldn't make out a current line to save myself & Tailor kept smashing well into the dark. this was great for us as we had ball hooking them up & they all well above legal. My questions are does this mean that Tailor are basically hunting in schools day & night? and the turbulence of the water does not effect them either? are they fishing myths? I readily acknowledge these may be very stupid questions but I would appreciate any opinions. I have a lot to learn & not enough day's on the water to learn it. Cheers Jason
  11. Congrats on the boat and best of luck blooding her in hopefully a nice big Jewie or Kingfish. I think my mate and I caught of glimpse of you launching the new beast as we were leaving from "Hole in the wall". haha we did a double take as we never there was a ramp on Holts point. Good luck mate
  12. Hey Framed, Just noticed you were in Northern Suburbs, Do you use the Pittwater boat ramp? I am thinking of giving Pittwater a bash this weekend but have never been / used the ramp there. Cheers
  13. I will be damned.. I did it. First uploaded photo...... now for all those other pic's hahah
  14. The fishing round Fiji is awesome & honestly the fishing guides are generally a great buch of guy's. I would give my left one to a catch a Spanish Mac! I went out for two days chasing them & could not tempt a Mackarel. My consolation prize was a barracuda while I was there in Feb of last year, it was caught near the island that was used to film ?Castaway? from memory. I am trying to add a pic of the cuda............ third attempt
  15. Hopefully sneak out for a fish tonight-til midday tomorrow, grab a few hours sleep then repeat. Good luck to everyone
  16. Hi Guy's, Just wondering if anyone has some experience in getting tackle from overseas, My mate has seen some downriggers at a good price & I was going to have a couple shipped out. I am hoping some one may know if I will be stung for any taxes here? hidden issues I should look out for? Thanks in advance. Jason
  17. Mate, I hope you find the mongrels responsible even better if you have a baseball bat handy at the time. My neighbours keep showning their annoyance with the boat by using it as their bin, drink cans & lolly wrappers are a constant, even with the cover on. Yet they are only too happy to take extra fish from a good catch. Hope you don't get done for too much cash.
  18. Mate, I am just desperate to get the lines wet on sunday too. I was thinking of taking the tinny up to Pittwater, just have to find a decent ramp. A couple of guy's at work pulled in a few great lizards at the wharf/jetty 56 cm 68 cm, 74cm. The two larger models were released Good luck
  19. Not silly questions mate, I am trying to find out the same things.
  20. Hi Guy's, where is the comp sign/start from & is the fishing located in one section of the Hawksbury or all over the entire stretch? Jas
