  1. Tuffy, Thanks for the info I called GME, just to provide an update they don't have anything to do with Garmin anymore as apparently Garmin have opened their own place at Seven Hills, so all warranties/repairs etc take place there now? I guess. I have to chase them up in 4 weeks minimum to see if they can get a recon unit for me. thanks for the tip again Tuffy.
  2. Thanks Tuffy. I will check GME. The plastic screen took a single impact point but that fractured the LCD screen into three divided area's the only thing I still working is the actual depth reading. Thanks again for the info. Jas
  3. G'day Raider's. For something different I am looking for some advice? and any info would be greatly appreciated. Stuff up number one: After a pretty useless Saturday afternoon session on the Georges, we only managed one legal Flatty before returning soaked to the boat ramp. While unpacking the boat I placed the sounder screen in my backpack which I then promptly knocked off the side of the boat. The screen ( a Garmin FF-140) is now cracked & I have no idea if it is possible to replace the screen /LCD unit or is it better to just buy a new unit when I can spare the cash? I am hoping a Raider may have some advice? Stuff up number two: I am having trouble with the electric T&T, I have not a clue how they work and the unit that is fitted to my tinny is some American company I have never heard of. The unit is a "panther" T&T from Marine Tech (I think). I have power running to the relay as I can hear click over but the tilt occassionally just won't move, or will run intermittently, sometimes there is a slower more strained noise when raising then when dropping the motor. It looks like there is a 'breather" pipe which runs into the motor housing and is not capped off, is it possible this could have let water into the unit? I have no idea and chasing the old dealer is not really an option.. Thanks for any resonses. Cheers Jason
  4. Sorry mate. I paid $150 odd for a brand new uni-fit rim Holden/Ford stud pattern with a light truck tyre. It was the cheapest I could find in hurry & needed it for a 2008 Brooker trailer
  5. Good luck mate, I had to pay through the nose for one. Have you tried contacting Huett Marine? they may source spares I was unable to find a 2nd hand rim & as a note they take light truck tyres or at least the one I got had LT tyres, best bet if Huey can't help you out is try a trailer company. I got mine from one at Roseville. Regards Jas
  6. Thanks for your response Jewgaffer. I will take onboard your advice as it is greatly appreciated to a Jew novice. You raised a couple of points which I found interesting & was hoping you might elaborate on: Firstly, Brain spiking - I would assume taking a sturdy sharp implement & driving it into the Fish's brain. Now what I wonder is, is there a particular point i.e. centre mass between the eyes or above any suggestions? Do you /should you brain spike all fish you intend to keep? Secondly, Bleeding the fish & removing the gills, I now understand the reason of bleeding fish but why remove the gills? & would you recommend bleeding all types of fish? Thanks Jason
  7. Hi Raiders, I am having a BBQ on the weekend & was going to pull out a couple of Jewies from the freezer. I was wondering if you any had favourite ways of cooking them that you would be willing to share & I could try..? Thanks in advance. Jason
  8. Wow man, that is fantastic. I am yet to catch to my fist damn squid. incredible effort.... My 20 cents worth would be: Cook half & use the other half for bait... Enjoy the Salt & Pepper Squid
  9. How sweet is that snapper........ mate I am suffering fish envy really bad. One day I will catch one........ one day
  10. Awesome work Jewgal. well done
  11. Brillant comment mate and pretty honest really. Jas
  12. Top report mate & a fantastic catch of Bream. In your photos were they the boats that were running over your lines? I was out the same morning & was sided by two boats "haemaroids" that pulled up right next to us at the Container wall as soon as our Burley trail went out. A third dropped anchor less than 4 metres off the back of the motor which really started to tick me off. We found this happened in a few spots including the HWO & Bare Island but they were mostly smaller punts & some older glass boats.. Cheers
  13. Thought we might give a Botany a try, hope to see raiders out there getting stuck into a few good fish.
  14. Thanks Guys, I appreciate the info. I want to go the way of tossing out the old fuel but I don't know of anywhere to dispose of it? I don't have a fueled lawn mower so I am stuck as to how I can dispose of it legally of course any ideas? The silencers appear to be great but as you fella's have mentioned it might be mix problem. Thanks for your responses. Jas
  15. G'day Raiders, A couple of quick questions if anyone if feeling generous to respond with ideas. I recently purchased an exhaust silencer for my 40 Suzuki two stroke during flushing as the neighbour has been chucking a tantrum when I wash it, mind you they are the first to ask about & accept any spare fish. Anyway I tried it for the first time yesterday & the motor would just not run while it was on. Has anyone used or uses the silencers? what am I doing wrong? I fit the cap into the port, strap the cord over the blade & tighten up the seal on the cap. Is that wrong? the place I bought it from are absolutely hopeless in giving any information about the product other than "yes sir that is the correct product for your motor", so any info would be appreciated. That brings me to the second question My mate asked if he could use the boat for a couple of outing which of course is no problem, the motor runs a 50:1 ratio as per normal and that info & full tank of gas was passed along. but some how this is forgotton & he has been running at 25:1 or more when I flushed the boat the street disappeared in a cloud of oil smoke which did nothing to improve the relationship with the neighbour. The question is what is better try to drain the tank & correct the fuel mix or do I just let the tank run through as there is about 3/4s of a tank left I could add 1/4 of straight unleaded to dilute it a bit.... Any suggestions? Cheers Jason Two weeks after the fact my mate remembers to tell me he washed the salt spray off the boat but forgot to flush the motor. you have to love your mates right hahaha
  16. Dogtooth you are a legend...... You should run a kingy training camp for underprivileged Kingyless people like me haha. Fantastic catch mate.
  17. Ah-hah.. Cheers fellas that explains why I haven't been there, The little tinnie might be hard pressed getting out there haha Thanks for the info all the same. I might just try my luck around the heads of Botany on the weekend. Have a good one Jason
  18. Hey Guy's, I have heard "the Peak" get mentioned a few times around the Botany Bay area. Just wondering if anyone would be kind enough to pass on the location of the peak? Is it close to the heads or an outside reef? Thanks Jason
  19. Hi Raiders, Just wondering if anyone would like to share some info on catching Mack's ? not after anyones spot X's just general info or techniques, can you catch them around Botany/Harbour or do you need to be outside the heads? Also what are they like to eat or are they just for bait? Thanks in advance. Jas
  20. There is the camping grounds at the Rylstone end of the the dam, the grounds are well kept with facilities and also a boat ramp. just keep heading to Mudgee from Ilford about 20 kms odd or so . DON'T take the Rylstone turn off just out of Ilford. Just keep following the signs to Mudgee & the turn off will be just a bit after Aarons Pass, decent sized intersection which should be well sign posted opposite the entrance to the local rifle range. Good luck Windamere Dam Cudgegong Waters Park Rylstone, NSW 2849 Telephone: 02 - 6358 8462
  21. Damn Peter, you have made me hungry looking at those fillets..
  22. Mate Good luck with the fishing, The water level is pretty low at the moment so there will be a lot of good snaggy areas around the shore line & some of the deeper areas. I think there is some rain threatening this week so the fish may strike a bit better. My knowledge is somewhat outdated on Windamere as I left home about 12 years ago haha but you are welcome to what I remember. My favourite lures in the dam are black & yellow 'tiger stripe' pattern "fish sticks" with the red & black a close second ( I still have some in my tackle box), other lures are the Stump Jumper, Dam Buster, in similar colours there are a couple of local lure makers including "Louee" lures and a bloke from Rylstone - but his name fails me now. The Yellows seem to really like motion in particular if the water is cloudy so I always preferred lures with a slight rattle or a really good action to create vibrations. I don't know if the guy's at Go Fish could hook you up with some of those lure but it is worth asking them! If you can't locate the lures then & you end up in Mudgee, you should find these lures available at some places around the town probably the camping shop on Sydney Road Mudgee.... or there is a bloke by the name of "Mark" he sells a fair bit of tackle & gear, his place is not far from the camping shop & I am 100% sure he could provide the best local lure for you.. Just ask the guys at the shop about him. Yellow belly are everywhere, depends if you are landbased or on a boat? The dam wall shore line is good along with "limestone Creek" Landbased. Boating just try some deeper areas around some submerged trees & if your boat can handle it, troll along next the shore line too between the drowned trees & the shore .. you would be surprised at how many big Yellows fall in that area. The odd trout you will find probably in the higher regions of the Rylstone end near the river or you may snag a brown if luck is with you. I think they have been releasing trout into the dam but I have never bother to chase them in the dam when they are everywhere in the Gudgegong river down from Windamere. Silver perch I use to find hiding in the shallow weedy areas near a corpse of trees in the water. Big yellows & Cod - well just keep an eye out for all the set lines that locals would have placed & they are a good indicator - also have a look on overhanging branches for dead rabbits, strips of meat & so forth, enterprising fisho's may have baited a good hole in preperation of the comp. As the meat rots & is blown by flies maggots & pieces of meat fall into the water & fish are happy to stay around for a free meal. Hope the info helps & Mudgee Rainbow Trout love selter spinners with their tail dipped in Aniseed oil.
  23. Brilliant work mate. They are worth all the effort
  24. Thanks for the reply mate, as for the type of marker I am not sure of it & am going to go back out this weekend to have a look for it. I didn't stick around to check it out as I was more concerned about the boat & wether I had cracked the hull ..Haha I guess I was more selfishly concerned about the boat then the marker, hell I even forgot to post a pic of the jewie we got. I will post it when I find out what type of marker it was Cheers
  25. Hi All, Just a quick question which will display my own stupidity but: We were cruising down the Georges passing Tom Ugly's when we ran into a marker that I can honestly say I did not see till it was too late. I am grateful to say that the only thing damaged was pride & a bent bow roller luckily. I admit my own failing for not seeing it, but I cannot understand why it had no reflectors that would have shone up under torch light. It was out from the moored boats on the Capt Cook side of Tom's bridge as I was returning to "hole in the wall ramp". We had just passed through the bridges & therefore we were not traveling at speed, I agree our light could have been better but, we weren't driving like idiots. We were not the only the boat that found that obstacle on Sunday as we met the owner of a pondgrass back at the ramp & he had hit the same marker/obstacle earlier. Unfortunately he was sporting more damage then we had. "If you are a raider mate send us a message" Anyway surely some reflective tape on water hazards is not a bad or too costly idea? I know the responsibility of safety rests on the drivers, but I would like to hear your thoughts:
