    Mystery Fish?

same as this one? thought i might provide a clearer pic for all the fish id gurus out there pretty little guy. wouldn't be able to name him if my life depended on it though btw - caught him while drifting the northern side of shark island in the harbour
  3. thats great guys. thanks for all the info. that site is awesome Pedro - cheers
  4. well guys, i thing the title of the thread is pretty self explanatory. anyone done this themselves? or is there anyone who has a poly with a lecky and wouldn't mind sharing some info on how it is installed on their boat? is it any different to the way it is done on a tinny? is there anything you need to look out for or are there any special precautions that need to be taken into account when doing this on a poly? pics would be awesome, but any reply would be appreciated just as much
  5. aaahhh! that's fantastic info guys. i experienced the same problem and put it down to my crappy skills but now i know otherwise!
  6. the second i saw the massive 'fin i had a sneaking suspicion i knew where it was caught lo and behold my suspicions were confirmed. basically on this yankee site there's one subforum where a dude who runs a charter in Puerto Vallarta has a kinda blog. definitely worth checking out. some absolutely phenomenal fish there! for me its up there with Nomad as one of the dream trips if i ever get the money http://www.#####ermen.com/board/f146/s...11-a-26298.html i hope i haven't violated a forum rule by posting a link of another forum. oh well, mods will quickly delete it if so
  7. sure is mate we caught it at the bait grounds. just inside trial bay around the buoys. come to think of it there's another kind of seriola called an alamco jack. they're pretty rare but its a possibility. anyway, its definitely one of the seriola species, which one however i cant say definietly
  8. hey man we caught something similar except im guessing you didn't let that one go it was only little and we got him at the bait grounds: anyway, my guess is its a baby amberjack. different shape and colour to a kingie or a samson
  9. nice there isn't much that can beat a double hook up trolling
  10. awesome how did u find your secret spot? i ask this because i sorta half-knew there was bass water in sydney, but i just thought it was so hard to find i never bothered looking however with swordy's reports and now your's i'm getting prompted to do a bit of bassing myself whaddyareckon?
  11. holy crap thats incredible a fish of that proportions is truly mythical in my books it makes all those crazy, unbelievable tales at the very least plausible

    Towra

hey james, pump nippers at dolls point on the sand bank on the eastern side of the cap cook bridge. that spot is the main place where you'll get them you might have to persevere for a bit but eventually you'll gather enough for a session
  13. First off, i feel sorry for A for needing the gratification of having the fish as 'his' rather than 'ours'. similarly, i think B is just being a tool for claiming a capture that was largely the result of A's hard work. anywho, thats largely irrelevant. i guess if you want a concrete verdict the best place to look is the IGFA most certified world records are the accomplishment of a team: the skipper, deckie and angler. although the angler gets all the credit, the other member of the team are integral components in the successful capture and as such are equally responsible for the record. despite this, the angler is largely the only one recognised as being associated with the caputre. i don't know why this is so, and even though its pretty sucky, its the rules so i guess technically it's B's nonetheless, any fisho with a shred of integrity will acknowledge other people's captures (however undeserving) and get over it aero has a good point too btw
  14. hey this link is pretty much what i do every time i prepare a tuna before icing it down http://www.spc.int/coastfish/Fishing/Sashimi_E/Sashimi.pdf i was in your position around this time last year until i found this link i think the pictures are especially helpful
  15. thanks for the report mate. ur old man was right all along hey? good flattie that one kudos on the b/d too - u happen to share it with me good luck on monday
  16. hey man, yeah thats pretty sucky considering trevally have become so prolific of late, the change is largely inexplicabe but then again, when is any decision concerning fisheries made on scientifically justifiable grounds i'm not really concerned with the others though . . . samsons, ajs and red rockies are in most parts of NSW a bycatch and a bonus. also they are usually over 30 cm anyway (for samsons and AJs) i think i might stop here before i get too angry myself just thinking about how !@#$@% up our government is.
  17. holy crap . . . that's one killer story great read too btw thanks
  18. mmm . . . flathead probly my fave syd food fish always puts a big smile on my face seeing a big lizard materialise out from the depths
  19. hey, ya cant miss it just head to the western side of the oil wharf and just south of the fish farm thingy you'll see water that looks different to normal that's the hot water outlet
  20. ah . . . ok thanks for clearing that up
  21. awesome work nothing beats fresh squid on the barbie mmmmmmm . . . i'm salivating just thinking about it!
  22. wow . . . looks like a lot of raiders are in a bit of a conundrum whether to target big reds or nail some yellowfin! Ross, how did you manage to fish floaters when the current and wind where so strongly opposed?
  23. Jobus are great hooks but for price vs practicality they're not ideal mustad o'shaugnessy 34007 are stainless, have a fine gauge and are inexpensice (~$1 ea compared to $5-6 for jobus) if you're only using 10 kg line of less they won't give you any dramas and will last ages just make sure you give them a quick touch up with a stone before fishing
