  1. Hi arif I was a little disappointed in the finish/quality of the brookers i looked at recently. I think if you can and you plan on keeping the boat longterm/resale a Stacer would be the go! Go and talk to Craig at Huett Marine he is a stacer dealer and site sponser. Good luck. Jim

    Disaster

Hi All Thanks again all for your kind words. It really helped. Fortunately the FIL is OK as well and has jetted off for 2 weeks in Cairns. The insurance company has written her off (hull only) and allowed me to purchase it back. Given work commitments and other time constraints I have decided to sell her as is rather than fix it and move on to another vessel. It should be a good buy for someone who wants to spend some time fixing her up. They could spend as little as a few hours or a few weeks depends how they want it to look. I will be making up an ad and throwing it on ebay if a friend doesn’t grab it 1st. Cheers again and thanks
  3. Hi Slaka The Australian Bass Angler in Penrith sells those folding drawbar trailers, perhaps call them they might know somebody who can do the mods?

Thanks Roberta Funny thing you mention the rod damage. On the day before when we were in St Georges basin my eldest lost his rod overboard and that upset me more as it was a rod i gave him on his day of birth 11 yrs ago.

    Disaster

Guys Thanks for all your kind thoughts. The old bloke has pulled up all right and keeps wanting to know whats happening and to make amends. I will try and get around it somehow, cant see me accepting money of a retired family member living on a fixed income? I dont know whats going to happen yet, i have to get a quote and submit it. I dont have a problem with a repair as long as it is done in such away as to not devalue the boat, otherwise i would rather move on. if they write it off, do they pay out the lot or just the Hull? and do your get to keep the Hull? If anybody knows a repairer in Western Sydney who could provide a quote I would appreciate the name. As usual Huey has offered assistance and a name but he is in Woy woy, is Huey a solid guy or what? Anyway Thanks again all, either way this is just a small setback we all have and I will be getting amongst fish asap. FYI below is a few photos of the kids having a ball catching bugger all in the beutiful Sussex inlet.

Thanks Roberta, there wasnt time to say anything. I just took over and made sure everybody was ok and we could get back to the ramp. There is nothing gained in chucking a hairy fit.

    Disaster

Hi Guys. Second time out in our new boat. Took the Father in Law and Brothers for a spin into JB. Had a great trip, on return i gave the FiL the helm to bring in. Whilst leaving the jetty he opened it up and misjudged the cruiser in front of us or more correctly the 1" thick marlin board attached to the 3.5 tonne cruiser. See below my once neat pride and joy of only two months!
  10. V-twins Ross. Think old Truimphs and Nortons, they were big paraell twins and they vibrated.
  11. Hi Garth Thanks for that. Whats the best ramp for a noob, sanctuary point?
  12. Hi Raiders Am hoping to hit JB or Sussex this weekend. I have 4 days and will be based at Callala beach. Would appreciate any tips or spots anybody can share, I would love to christen the boat and give the kids a thrill, not to mention prove the outlaws wrong (who think I am mad). I also don’t mind the shoalhaven/crookhaven but it sounds pretty ordinary at present. Haven’t used the boat yet so I don’t want to wander far.
  13. I live 1/2 way up (faulconbridge) and theres no snow but bloody cold atm. Was at a mates property in Oberon yesterday and his dams & open water tank had sheet ice on top! Ross, the Carington has been done right up and looks a treat not sure about the lunchs though. Jim

    Paint Bubbling

I agree with wetpatch, better to contain it. I have one section on my used boat under the aerial that has run rampant. I also treat all holes i drill with etch and then paint before putting lanolin on, bit of mucking around but worth it in the long run. Kill rust brand now have an epoxy etch and enamel paint in spray tins which would be handy if the colours match, alternativley you can buy the epoxy enamel in 250mls and get it tinted. Wetpatch how have you found surface corrosion in other areas with the allycraft? When looking for boats (4+ years old) most allycrafts i veiwed had corrossion coming from under the paint, mainly around the tops of the gunnels, dash areas (if not plastic). Not enough to deter me but a tad offputing. Otherwise i thought they were excellent. Went for a ride in a 455/460 bay raider with 50 jono, liked the boat just was a tad too small for my needs and didnt like the motor. Think the Bar raider/attacker (whatever next one up) would have been perfect for me but they were outside what i wanted to spend. Cheers all.
  15. Hi Anthony The other posters would be right. I have a manual which explains checking the tilt switch. I can PM/Email that section to you if you would like? I dont know if it would be allowed to post it up as it is a publication? rgds jim
  16. Your photos are fantastic, they capture the moment perfectly, well done and better luck next time with the fish. Maybe the moderators could have a "picture of the month" thread. Your photos would be in there for sure. I am heading down to JB in a few weeks to visit the outlaws and wasnt going to bother with the boat, you have changed all that. Rgds Jim
  17. The OP has got a mate who can do the fabrication so he is just looking for ideas. I like the way the top bar has a gentle curve. Would not be easy to make IMO. Rgds Jim
  18. These are on ebay, pretty smart looking set with the gradual curve on them. Jim
  19. Mate that is fantastic, was only looking (browsing not buying) at them this morning at Blakes. they are one fine boat. Jim
  20. Thanks Pete I have come to that conclusion as well. I saw a simalar boat at a dealer today (see attached) Now what i am going to try is to run the cables through inside transom behind the battery and enter the well to clear up the back step? Thanks again Jim
  21. Hi all Spent all weekend getting the new (S/H) boat in shape, took the floors out cleaned the hull, replumbed the bilge pump, repacked everything, gave it a kick in the guts to make sure it would go when the weather clears. All ok, I don’t like engaging the prop out of water but thought I would just test it out being new. The throttle/lever was difficult to engage and when it did it would not rev up! On investigation the throttle cable is broken and the gear cable is jamming. So I am going to replace both but I want to reroute them through the side of the well as opposed to the existing route through the RHS of the transom (see attached) I am thinking the cables will need to go through at right angles to the motor and them loop around 270 degrees and cross back over going into the motor to minimize strain on them during movement. I think the current cable route has led to the throttle cable fatiguing. Not worried about steering cable presently, if I keep it I will replace it with hydraulic when it fails. Anybody have any suggestions re routing of cables or best place to source same? Boat; Quintrex 4.75 runabout 60 HP Yamaha Rgds Jim
  22. I was only reading in that Sydney afloat mag last month the story of that ship that ran aground off newcastle in 1974. The author finished by saying with heaps more ore carriers up there now it is quite likley to happen again some day...spookey jim
  23. Hi NJS Nice looking boat. I thought the Evo hull was only on Stacers over 4.4 metres? Jim
