  1. Nice mate this is a dream of mine to catch a good bag of clean edible Whiting and make some tempura.
  2. Excellent article @DerekD mate thankyou for taking the time to share the skills and what works for you. Squidding is very rewarding when you're doing something right and has been a desperately frustrating experience for me! I would love to see that 300year old squid jig and try to make a replica!
  3. Well I was thinking about it.. Kahawai as they call them in New Zealand they are the Go-To bait for Big Kings, If I can get a smallish one use that for live bait as there is no size limit it and as easy to catch as yakkas use them like yakkas 10/0 live bait hook.. why not 😬 I reckon if there is a huge king lurking
  4. Video Attached Up at 4am set up the origami boat and on the water at Rose Bay by 5am initially targeting Squid then Kings. On the way to get some squid we saw heaps of bust ups of salmon around and just naturally could not drive past a bust up. So we both got off the mark with a couple of decent sized salmon each both catch and release. Stuck to the plan for the squid, but we tried and tried unfortunately nothing. We had some day old squid in strips but just got picked at and no interest in pilchards from Kings. Salmon and some tailor were busting everywhere, was easy pickings with the Halco Twistys Lost count of how many we caught as they were mad keen, we brought just one back each because it was all we needed. It was the most productive day for quantity on my boat, would have been nice to see some kingfish but who cares, the salmon were tonnes of fun!
  5. You will just get closer and closer and eventually you will get there, it took me 364 days with some help. Good luck with the next hookup!
  6. Nice catch and the feed looks 10/10 I'm going to copy your recipe next time I get some flathead!
  7. Very nice feed of Whiting mate!! Let's hope they catch that bastard!!
  8. That would be nice also a Salmon mate! I actually got this king on the ecogear prawn shhhhhh don't tell anyone haha🤫 Yep @pickles "give the burley another chop" ringing in my ears I think it definitely helped.
  9. Thanks Neil would love to see you get a metery next time you're in Sydney mate!
  10. Thanks mate absolutely beautiful, would have loved to catch and release i think i will on my next one Cheers! All those donuts were worth it in the end finally got a king on my boat!
  11. Why not mate, you're welcome to! Not as comfortable as your boat but does the damage 1 in a 100 go's! 😄 I'll be more relaxed fishing from now because i know its rare to beat that.
  12. I forgot my anchor but managed to tie to a public buoy thingie seemed legit. It would have had my boat going at pb speed i'd say! 😄
  13. Thanks mate, the garlic and herb breaded steaks later on were equally as good! 😋
  14. Its a Porta-Bote 3.2m can take 3people its a very seaworthy vessel the Japanese coast guard use them. Takes 15 20 mins for me to get it ready. It flexes with the waves I don't go out too far, the waves are scary still seeing what it can handle. https://www.porta-bote.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiAtej9BRAvEiwA0UAWXukANskhDke4v65aTx1654A7vg3P6Xhxi8kq7NMPMWOVqz3HKAoL4BoCq5UQAvD_BwE&_vsrefdom=p.417 At times (donuts) i regretted buying it, seems worth it now Haha
  15. So Sunday me and a mate decided to go fishing possibly land based at Rose Bay, took the origami boat just incase. Got there and the conditions were perfect for boating so we set the bugger up in 20 mins and got out there. I really didn't care today if I caught anything that day just wanted to get my pal out fishing. He turned up with a broken tip rod and very little experience. It was calm partly cloudy not too hot not too cold, water temp 20°. Seen some fly fishos on the flats possibly chasing Whiting so we drifted and tried to catch something on the sugapens but gave up quickly. So we went for around the bays seen a fair few rock fishos and boats around so we chilled there. I was just leisurely casting a slow fall jig and caught a medium sized squid completely by chance and hardly hooked on. Had my heavy outfit (80lb line 100lb leader), with me so tried a live bait with a 7/0 hook chucked some flathead frames as burley chopped up, about 15 20 mins later there was action after not expecting anything at all. I could hardly lift the rod out of my makeshift rod holder something huuge on the end! The fight lasted around 4 mins was difficult because its hard to stand up in my boat without falling over, I had no net and crowd of kayakers watching me, the pressure was on. My mates first proper fishing experience the first king on the origami boat and the dream fish I've been chasing for nearly 2 years! All we got was 1 squid and 1 big PB King totalling 101cm had to come home fast because it was too big for the esky. This was very much down to the experience and knowledge I have gained from the lads I've met on Fishraider. Its all about the Kings! ❤ Next up 1.2m 1.4 King and the 2m
  16. I've never tasted or given any thought into catching John Dory, I thought they were a deep sea fish. I took my boat around the Marina today scored a flatty and a tailor I wasn't out for long but got my fix. Seem some huge bream around there. Man you're lucky to have this as your stomping grounds! I might try this idea some day soon!
  17. Thanks mate, really itching to land a salmon. Eco gear for life! 😆
  18. Big Day mate! Doing what you do best! Congratz on the Salmon! Was that on the bubble maker thingmebob?
  19. Finished work today not far from this place, had many a doughnut here, but today was different! Within 30 mins I landed my first, a nice sized flatty, I fished and scanned the area as the low tide set in.. for 2 hours then I landed a slightly bigger flathead. Caught them both on blade vibes, some schnidey knock off ecogear prawn zx40 which did the damage. Temperature was perfect not too hot current seemed strong and slightly windy. Could see a bust ups way off casting distance possibly tailor or salmon? shame I couldn't reach it! Came home with a decent feed!
  20. I used to hate Tailor but now I really appreciate them because they do what you want them to do. Just bite the lure or bait without hesitation 😆
