  1. I used a 12ft one the other day and it just didn’t feel right for spinning off the beach.
  2. Thanks again @Green Hornet. That rod will be used mostly off the rocks when the swell and general surf conditions allow. I will probably buy a 10ft rod for casting off the beach.
  3. A follow up question for the Tailor/Salmon brains trust….is a 7ft Pflueger Trion (native specialist) 3-6kg got enough grunt to handle a solid beast? The rod has a medium action so it’s ideal for casting treble hook lures, what do you think? regards Grant
  4. Doughnut unfortunately
  5. Yeah I use clips, I would hate to cut the leader constantly.
  6. Thanks everyone, informative replies. I have got some Halco Twisters and Surecatch Knights. Buying a Surecatch lure was surprising, somewhat different to the expensive bass and bream lures. Looking forward to seeing how the halco poppers go in the warmer months. What hardbodies did you use Green Hornet?
  7. I like the sound of that Green Hornet, thanks again for your advice.
  8. Hi Raiders This topic may have been covered previously however given lures and techniques evolve, what lures are people using on the beach? Regards Grant
  9. Thanks Noelm, I am lucky to be at the northern end of the state and dodged the worst of the swell. Fished Iluka Bluff beach for a doughnut.
  10. Thanks Green Hornet

    Tailor

Morning Raiders, I have some spare time today and thinking of going for a spin. Is it worth chasing Tailor in beach gutters during the day? I don’t target Tailor so very inexperienced with them. Normally would simply chase Luderick at this time of year in the day off the break wall but don’t have weed and would prefer to lure fish today. Any other suggestions would be welcome. regards Grant
  12. Don’t mention the lawns, I can only mow half the back lawn at the moment as it’s still saturated
  13. G’day raiders Spring and summer on the north coast of NSW has been a write off. Constant strong winds with lots of rain coupled with covid, family and work commitments has meant bugger all fishing. So let’s look to the future, what are your plans for autumn and winter? Any trips planned? Target species?
  14. Ands it’s flooded. Currently closed so NPWS can assess damage to road and campground. I will post an update when I know what the damage is.
  15. G’day Raiders The Junction Campground has reopened to day visitors after being rebuilt. Camping will be allowed shortly after work is completed regarding online booking. Great news for people chasing bass. Look after the place and report idiots to NPWS Grafton.
  16. Yeah I think they are. Do you only use a bait caster on your rod? I am thinking that I might start using it to target larger predators given it’s a pretty solid rod.
  17. Would the bream specialist be similar in performance to Atomic Arrows Bream rods?
  18. I have the 7’ 3-6kg native specialist. I have used it for Bass previously but will be better suited to throwing larger hardbodies at bigger saltwater species. I like the rod would love to get my hands on the bream specialist.
  19. Hi Raiders Does anyone know what the difference between the Pflueger Trion Bream Specialist and the Native Specialist? I am guessing the bream specialist is suited to surface fishing?
  20. Look for submerged coffee rock if you are chasing Jacks. Head further upstream past Tewantin, less people and fishing pressure.
  21. Thanks so much Derek, really appreciate the effort you put into the response. I am going to digest this and put into practice soon.
  22. Achieving the motion. My light spinning setup is a 1-3kg rod with 6lb. braid. I experimented today and used 10lb mono as a leader. I normally used fluorocarbon. The Austackle Joey is 60mm so would fall into the category you mentioned. Regards Grant
  23. Hi Derek, Firstly I hope you get better soon and hopefully it’s a very mild case. Secondly thanks for the video. I have been trying to master this technique with limited success. Does lure size have any affect? I tried it today with an Austackle Joey. This lure just didn’t want to play.
