  1. Oh don’t get me wrong, I do t think I will have a problem at all with this reel, just more interested in the evolution of reel design and technology.
  2. Hi At Christmas I got a new Daiwa Tierra 2000 reel. I noticed that’s it’s only got 5 bearings and 5.3:1 ratio. My older Pflueger Supreme reel (similar size) has 9 bearings and a ratio of 6.2:1. I was surprised to see the Daiwa reel has less bearings and lower ratio than the Pflueger reel. Has technology improved that 9 bearings are no longer needed?
  3. Thanks again for your reply Frank. Viva got back to me and said it was probably one of their first generation surf rods. Will confirm details on Monday when they are back in the office. so looks like this rod will not be relegated just yet. Cheers Grant
  4. I have sent them a message just waiting for a reply. Always good to get the opinion of the users as well as manufacturers as well. Grant
  5. Thanks Frank. I am probably wrong (so please correct me if I am), but my gut says it’s not part of that group. Bought probably 2004-2005 so quite old now. Does the Barra Master have a similar logo of the bird?
  6. G’day Raiders Anyone come across Viva rods? Bought this rod 15 or so years ago. Not sure if it’s a dud or not.
  7. Looking for recommendations for lip grips? I don’t want to spend more than $40 is that feasible? cheers Grant
  8. Hi all, Has River2Sea stopped producing some lures like their Baby Crank? They don’t list it on their site anymore.
  9. So my bad it’s actually RLF 31/2. Found a website (after searching the correct model) that’s says it’s 4-6kg. Would that be suitable for spinning for Jack’s and maybe Jew fish?
  10. It’s definitely 8’ and feels really responsive. It’s move chunky than my 6’ shimano raider which is 1-3kg.
  11. Already done that, the rod is discontinued and no info from them. I also tried messaging them as well.
  12. Mod just realised there is a tackle section, happy for post to be moved to relevant section
  13. Hi Brains Trust i have only recently got back into fishing after many years. I have a Wilson Live Fibre Trophy rod (RLF32/2). It’s an 8 foot rod given to me as a gift. Does anyone know much about this rod? Obviously the /2 means two piece. The rod does not have a line rating or any other information. I am trying to work out where it sits with my other gear and how I should best use it. Thanks in advance Grant
  14. Hi Offtherocks 1/6oz is approximately 4.5g so your rod maybe a little too heavy. Regards Grant
  15. Hi Craka You will definitely find it easier with a longer rod. Especially when the fish are in close and you need to lift them. I use a 12 foot rod. Apologies if this has been previously mentioned (haven’t read all the replies) but I much prefer to use centre pin reels which allow the bait to move naturally. A lot of people use Vaseline so the line floats. In regards to depth that will vary pending on the fish. As Rick mentioned above have a look where other people have there float stoppers to get a feel for where the fish are. Also fish where and when there is good water movement, I look for areas where rocks meet sand.
  16. Thanks Dirvin. Good to hear the Jack’s can be reached from land based spots. I can’t say I know a whole lot about Jacks so plenty to learn about those beasties.
  17. Hi everyone, I have just gotten back into fishing after nearly a decade of absence. I live in Grafton on the north coast of NSW. I really enjoy fishing skinny creeks for bass. In the saltwater I mainly fish at Yamba and Iluka and target flathead, whiting and luderick. Apart from luderick, I predominantly fish with hardbodies and soft plastics. Species I am looking forward to trying to catch in the future include whiting (on stickbaits), Trevally, Mangrove Jack and Jew fish. However I don’t have a boat or easy access to one so the jacks maybe out of reach. I have some experience but welcome suggestions, tips or new locations. Other interests include music (especially psychedelic and Jazz (Sun Ra, Davis, Coltrane)), cricket, beer, wildlife and travel (love the tropics). Looking forward to and hoping to meet some new fishing mates Regards Grant
