  1. I fished wallaga lake during December of last year, and there was some fantastic fishing. If you paddle to the sand bank near the bridge, you can pump yabbies and fish them on the eastern side of the bank, where I've had most of my success. Bream, luderick, whiting and flathead are the main species.
  2. Yes, it was very frustrating to watch them swimming around my bait but not taking it. I might need to downgrade to 4lb leader and fully conceal the hook within the bait.
  3. I think that the average size of the bass at Parra are larger than the average size of those in other systems. Over the 3 or 4 times I've been to Parramatta, I've caught several in the high 30s and even one in the 40s. I think they can grow big because there's little fishing pressure there.
  4. Headed down to Parramatta for a quick afternoon/evening fish, targeting bass and carp as usual. Armed with a loaf of bread, I started off at Lennox Bridge, a location that had proven successful in the past. After about 20 minutes of fishing there, I saw my float rocket underwater while i was on my phone. Luckily, i was able to react in time and set the hook hard. After a short tussle, a nice bass had reached the bank. It was very awkward to land fish at this particular spot, as the wall was about 2.5m high and dragging a fish up its face with light line would be out of the question. Luckily I had brought my prawning net this session, and using its long handle allowed me to barely scoop the fish up out of the water. A decent bass to start the day going 39cm, 1cm short of a pb. It looked quite beaten up, with some old scarring on its side and being blind in one eye. After the first fish things went relatively quiet. I was still getting the odd nice down on the float, but the wind made it quite difficult to set the hook. Around the period when it started to get dark I decided to flick around an atomic chubby, and surprisingly got a hit from what i presume was a bass. Never had much luck with lures in Parramatta, so getting some interest boosted by confidence a little. As the sun sunk further below the horizon, I could see carp moving into the shallows, including a mostrous koi that looked about 75-80cm. They were incredibly hard to trick though, as when I got my bread bait in front of their faces they would turn away. I gave up fishing for them, and stayed a little longer for a bass before I went home. No carp unfortunately, I was really looking forward to fighting one.
  5. hard to get one over a metre in the harbour i think
  6. i've also had trouble with the float stoppers fitting through my rod guides, but I trim them down with a pair of scissors after i attach it to the line. Looks ugly but it works.
  7. It is quite common to see plenty of large carp, but some of them can be quite smart and avoid anything that look unnatural. I don't usually catch many carp per session (1-2 usually), but the average size seems to be quite large, about 65cm. To be honest the main thing is just getting a bait in front of them, but a bit of burley can help too. Give Lennox bridge a try, I catch more carp there than at the weir itself.
  8. There was a big school of little Luderick in Illawong Bay when I was fishing there, but i'm not sure if there would be any bigger ones.
  9. It's called Charles St weir. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Charles+Street+Weir,+River+Rd+W,+Parramatta+NSW+2150/@-33.8132365,151.0100357,15z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x6b12a3198f63d3ff:0xedb3862c63ae450d!8m2!3d-33.8132365!4d151.0100357!16s%2Fg%2F11g6rfk_5w
  10. Parramatta above the weir has a good amount. I like using bread under a float to catch them, and for some reason the bass there like bread as well. The saltwater section isn't too bad either, a lot of times if the carp are quiet I can catch a few mullet and use them for some decent bream.
  11. sick photo btw, how did you get it?
  12. I don't think it makes much of a difference, if it did more people would be using it.
