  1. Shimano charge $20 for a service, not including the cost of replacement parts, so if you can do without your reel for a week I would send it to them to maintain your warranty. If that's not ideal I'll service the reel for the same price and have it done in a day, providing I don't have to order replacement parts from Shimano. I've been servicing my own reels for twenty years. I'm located near Swansea, just up the coast from Gosford. Send me a private message if you're interested.
  2. I felt the same the first time I watched it. The assist tools are great. I tried the bobbin and just couldn't get the hang of it, so I looked for other options and found the .
  3. I always loose track of the half-hitches.
  4. I learned how to tie it with this and I find it the easiest way to tie by hand. I've since bought a Daiichi Seiko Knot Assist 2.0 to tie it with.
  5. I read that he wrecked a Stella on the previous fish, insane. Exactly.
  6. Definitely, but there's always the 8-16lb model for peace of mind. Get them while you can as stores are selling out. The same thing happened with the FI model when the FJ was about to be released.
  7. Samurai Inflict 6-12lb - $249 Shimano Stradic 3000FJ - On sale for $189, if you shop around or your local price matches, due to the new model coming out at the end of this month.
  8. The rating for your rod? I checked a number of websites that still had that model in stock.
  9. The lure rating on a rod is the minimum and maximum weight for optimal performance when casting. As for your rod, it's rated for 10-45g.
  10. I'm definitely coming to the next social, though I've been saying that for a while now.
  11. You can have your details laser engraved into the reel seat and reel foot, I saw it on a fishing website some years ago.
  12. When it comes to backpack setups I think it's better to steer clear of anything specifically designed for fishing and buy a quality backpack instead, something built out of 1000D Cordura.
  13. It really is both.

    Where to buy?

Unfortunately for me my local is now a two hour drive away since moving to the central coast, and with the price of petrol I can't justify regular visits. There are a few stores around Lake Macquaire that are alright, but they just don't have the range of products I'm used to. I buy my rods locally only because I use Nitro rods, if I wasn't using them I'd be buying from Japan. I've always bought my reels locally out of convenience, though lately I've been desiring JDM reels and unless Dunphy starts bringing them in I don't see myself buying locally much longer.
  15. I don't know what I'd do if that happened to me.
  16. Meiho Versus 3080, it's pretty big. You have two options in Australia, the Bream & Bass (includes 4 x VS 708 Lure Case and 2 x VS 820ND Worm Case) or the Long Lure (includes 4 x VS 808 Worm Case and 2 x VS 820ND Worm Case). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIq_kZBbbv0
  17. I look after my gear, but I'm not going to scoff at a system that aids in preventing water and particulates from entering a reel.
  18. Corrosion prevention is a gimmick?

    Where to buy?

To keep his business. Of course you do, they still want to keep you business regardless of whether it's retail or online. I've received discounts from an online store I use solely because I spend a lot of money there.
