  1. Inox, Lanox or Ballistol are best for wiping reels down after a brief rinse.
  2. Your too early for the surface fish .....bonnies, frigates and better numbers of kings wont turn up there till later. You might get salmon around this time of year.
  3. Other than stating the obvious that you probably shouldnt be fishing in those conditions if you need to tie yourself down.. Get some decent rope, and the adjustable cams that are available from outdoor abseiling shops. The cams come in different sizes and then you insert them into the cracks/holes etc where you are fishing. This is portable and can be used anywhere you can find good rock structure. They dont break, and you just have to wash them down and inox them when you get home after. Better than trusting something thats been attached for who knows how long on the rocks and not knowing how strong it still is.
  4. Even if livebaiting, if the jackets are around you are going to lose gear. Ive had my rigs snipped..stupid jackets !!!!
  5. Scotty, you can get 600yds of tufline 50lb quite cheap so you might as well spool up with it all.
  6. Pike. Get them alot where I go squidding and they chase the lures at times. Throw in a small minnow or soft plastic and you will probably hook him.
  7. I would stay away from things like WD on braid. If you really want to look after your braid, strip some off after each session into a bucket of fresh water and pass the line through it to give it a clean. Then , you can get braid conditioners from the online japanese shops. So once washed you can spray the braid and spool with this stuff and let it soak in . This helps to preserve the line and also stops it absorbing gunk on your next trip.
  8. Shop around and you can pick up a saragosa 14000 for around $340.
  9. Thats a great read...thanks for that.
  10. Use the fly tail material. You will need to get to a tackle shop that stocks all the materials to makes flies and find the long reflective thin stuff . It works great on the tail of metals and minnows. I use it on most of my metals and a number of other lures.
  11. Hard to spin yakkas amd keep them swimming nice. I flick them out and then twitch them back to look injured, but they spin alot. If you can get them to stay on one side it would be better. You could chin rig a small sinker under the throat to try and swim them better but in that case you might as well just lob them out dead under a float etc they way you would with pillies and wait. With gars go to the fish markets and you can get a kilo of them for the same price at a bait shop gives you 5-6....The gars from the markets, or fish shops are fresher, shiner and you can pick which ones you want. Take them home and vacuum pack if you need and they will last ages.
  12. 2lb of lead....at least that kind of sits stable .....worse is the numerous floats and pillies chucked out,and then the rod left jammed in a crevice and the owner goes and sits back and watches from a distance.....thats why I dont give specific spots. I will give general hints though. Everyone is entitled to fish, but its also courtesy to not stuff someone else up that made an effort to get there early rather than rock up at executive hours and trying to move into the prime spot... Avoca-aargh, good on weekdays with crappy weather, awful on weekends with good weather. Nothing like getting a spot, landing a fish, walking back to unhook it and place it in a pool and have people run to where you were standing and start casting from there, or cast from 20m away diagonally to where you hooked up....thats why the spots I fish involve a somewhat more challenging walk/climb in.
  13. The problem is, myself only fishing the rocks as well, is that some of these spots dont have enough room for a lot of people. Some involve you casting certain angles to get to the area of reef you want etc, so if you tell someone the spot or someone says its firing, then on your next trip its full of other people (alot without the same courtesy you have) and you are stuffed as they cant cast, just bottom bash at a spot thats really only good for spinning. One spot I fish is literally less than 10ft long, and probably 6 ft wide. But get the right cast in the right direction when the kings are on and you will hook up(as long as you pick the right conditions). Get more than 5 people on it and its not fun. Secret spots in sydney - well realistically , there probably arent really any..its knowing when to be there that counts.
  14. Google earth, some books, some research over the net and some time out fishing will help work out whats best...Being land based I'm not keen on coughing up my fav spots , but am all too willing to help out on tackle, rigs, and techniques.
  15. There has been a school around eastern suburbs most of last week.

    Popper Reel

Spheros, saragosa, penn spinfisher, fin-nor.... If you look at some online tackle stores from Aus you can pick up a penn spinfisher 850 or 950 or spheros 14000 dirt cheap....i.e under $150....
  17. I use ice all the time to separate my rods that are like that. Works a treat. You can also get a rod wax that can be used to help stop them getting too stuck.
  18. Nice interface but features let it down...they should have had more in it. The N95 8G can do more, or look at the HTC TyTN11...they just arent as flash looking. If all else fails, Im sure you will see them on eBay soon.
  19. In some of those areas around there you need to cast far to get past the reef edge and all the rough stuff in close. Some spots work better on a falling tide, others on a rising tide and its something you will need to find out with practice and observation. ie..when the tide is dropping in some places, the baitfish end up falling back close to the edge of the dropoffs and more pelagics come in close. In other spots, its better when the tide rises as the larger fish can get in close to other structure. Keep an eye out to see how the baitfish react along those ledges to get an idea. Try and aim along wash zones so that lures cross the foamy areas into clear areas etc, and work the water column. If poppers fail , switch to minnows that dive under the surface, then after that to metals which you can let sink for longer. Tailor are usually more active in cloudy overcast days, or when there is a good wash zone. They will sit deeper on bright days usually. Salmon will be anywhere....
  20. Salmon, tailor, some bonnies still around, and striped tuna. All depends on where you are fishing. Times and tides are the same as in summer, with change of tides around sun up or sundown best. The only difference is that at sun rise you will be wearing a heap more clothing as its pretty cold lately in the mornings off the rocks.
  21. Go to one of the outdoor stores like kathmandu etc and get some thermal long sleeve tops....and either a windproof jacket or something made from goretex. That will help and you wont feel like a blimp....

    Whales

    Off maroubra today as well....
  23. It also depends on where you are fishing as to the length. 5-6 foot off the rocks is a bit short for my liking around sydney, but on deeper ledges is ok. Mine is around 7ft something matched to a tld25, and for the spots I fish its nice to have that extra length and clearance above any rocks/reef.
  24. Not a secret spot by any stretch of the imagination :Gunammatta baths behind cronulla station holds squid and yakkas.
  25. You can buy braid conditioner too that is meant to aid longevity by providing a protective coating. You will need to search for it on japanese tackle shops and some ebay shops though as I have never seen it here for sale in AUS.
