  1. Dont know, but can tell you that there are plenty of other trucks parked in the nearby streets at the moment.
  2. If the council and RTA cant give definitive answers then I would argue the point till blue in the face...where are the signs ? what is the minimum distance to the house etc....
  3. Found this on their website - Further, did you know that residential streets in Kogarah are three tonne limited . This means that you cannot drive a truck over this weight limit in our streets unless you have business in the area and you are travelling the most direct route to your destination. Breaches of the restriction can result in a maximum on-the-spot penalty notice of $935.00. Is Railway parade 3 tonne limited?
  4. Aaah, I know that council well and have lots of fun with them as well . Dont pay yet, look up the regs and find out what distance they call close to home. If it aint documented , then they can really enforce it as its open to interpretation. Or get them to send you the link or documents that state "what the minimum distance is". They cant expect you to obey the law if it isnt documented and I would bet that if you confronted them on that distance that they will back down. Failing that - get your dad to park it in front of the council premises with a big sign on it saying ' ripped off by Kogarah council'....that will get some attention.
  5. You can cast anything you want with an overhead, you just need to have a balanced rig. I wouldnt try casting light lures with a torium 30, but if you were using a torium 16 or 20 then you could easily. Depends on spool size of the reel and the type of rod you are using. A rod with some tip action will let you cast out lighter lures, but restrict more on the heavy stuff. By bibless lures, are you talking the new halco max lures..if you are using them you wont have a problem. And if you havent used overhead before, you should get in some practice at a local beach or park before hitting the stones as it will be frustrating to get a birdnests first cast out.
  6. Out of those lures, on the cotton cordell is light. The halco bibless also weighs in a 80 gram . Lure size really depends on the size of the baitfish. So you might use something like 50g snipers up to 125g raiders. Depends on what your rod is rated too. Finding a rod that can do up to 85 grams is ok, but finding one to do 50-125 isnt too easy. You could easily cast a cordell though on the right size overhead. If you pick something like a SL30SH or some variant in that size, back with braid and top shot with mono for 100m - you would be able to cast both. In terms of threadline or overhead - how good are you with an overhead? If you see a target can you fire out a cast quickly with an overhead ? The downside to overheads is backlash, the downside to threadlines is windknots. You need to work out how much line you need and if that will be braid or mono to work out which reel will have the high speed for you and capacity for a long run.
  7. Overheads may take some getting used to , but find one that has cast control, or mag control and it will be a lot easier. I spin a lot with eggbeaters off the rocks, but for comfort overheads are better over the course of a day of casting for me. If you are fishing 10kg line, you need to make sure that your reel has the capacity. In overhead look at daiwa SL30 or 50SH series, shimano toriums, trinidads, or penn 525 reels. Otherwise, have a look at an emblem pro - good capacity , very high speed retrieve and a proper casting spool. Compare the spool design to a spheros and you will see why. Forgot to mention, spheros type reels, penn spinfishers etc are slow ratios...4.8:1. Its usually preferable to have a reel for spinning with a high ratio of 5.8:1 or higher eg 6:1.
  8. I spin with both. If you want versatility and be able to cast minnows like xraps etc, then threadlines work best. If you are casting metals lures like raiders/snipers then I find overhead best. The other thing to take into account is the capacity of your reels and making sure you have enough line for big runs. If you are using braid backing, then you usually can fit a fair bit more line on than if you were just using mono.

When using braid, common practice is to first put a couple of wraps of mono around the spool and then connect the braid. This is to stop braid slipping on the spool . You can get away with not doing this if you use more wraps of braid or some kind of tape before loading the braid on. The main reason for using braid is that you can get extra capacity on the spool than normal and it lasts longer than mono and has no memory. eg. my daiwa slo50sh, fits 450yards of 25lb mono. With braid on it, it fits 600 yards . Then I have 100m of mono for casting with(casting straight braid on overhead gear doesnt work). On threadline reels, I run straight braid and no more than 5 metres of mono. In both instances they are top shot with mono. If it tried to run 50 or 80lb mono on my eggbeater I would have no capacity and crap casting. But using the braid solves that. Top shotting is very common for those spinning for hours off the rocks.
  10. Ive bought plenty and items were alot cheaper than AUS even when currency conversion and freight factored in.
  11. If you look in the right spot you will find the kingies Look for the bait fish , frigates and squid.....
  12. They cast well, and work for me....bonnies like them
  13. Get a 2 piece graphite rod to start with and you wont get snagged up in trees etc....and if you trip and break a 2 piece getting to a rock fishing spot, you probably should think twice about fishing off the rocks. and the lighter rods make it more comfy if you have to do more climbing and bouldering.
  14. In my opinion, if you are going to be lure casting and spinning - go graphite. Lighter, better response. You just need to be aware not to drop/throw/bang them around as much.
  15. Most, if not all of my rods are carbon fibre and I only fish off the rocks. You just need to be conscience of not throwing them on the ground, or dropping them onto sharp rocks. And when you rest them against something take your time and dont just jam it in. Ive never broken any of my graphite rods (some costing $$$) whilst rock fishing along some not so forgiving areas. If you arent the type to look after your gear then go the 5120, but if you like using nice modern ,stuff then try something different.
  16. 5120's still have a thick butt section and are heavy. You could go a G version, which is a touch lighter, have a stiffer action, but are still quite thick in the butt once built up. If you are just punching out a bait then you could get away with a 5120 as they are cheap, but if you are spinning a bit get a custom job or one of the other rods which are lighter. I use braid of the rocks, but am spinning so not too worried. If you are potholing for groper etc, and will be snagging up and pulling fish out of the rubble go mono.
  17. yep, its a fair drop between the pylons on the wall. Plus boats come in close so Id give the weekend a miss for sure.

    Avoca Rocks

At the right times, you can get some great catches there...bluefin, cobes, kings etc....but it wont be on a weekend when its chocka block. Its an easy spot to get to which is why its popular, but also its downfall......it pays to walk further along and explore.

    Avoca Rocks

And its still filthy as up there..was there today and its a mess. Plastic crap everywhere, people dumping bait and fish bits on the stones.....One day fishing will be banned there because of the filth and bad image it gives the area. Council rangers and fisheries are needed there on a regular basis to fine people and sort it out before greenies get there way.
  20. The girls can go swim between the flags, and then you can wander further down along the beach and fish. If you're taking the girls, you are just going to have to fish whatever tide there is unless they are the type that like getting to the beach at sun up.
  21. I prefer Garie beach. More open to the ocean, more rips, gutters etc that make it more attractive to fish. Dart, bream, salmon, tailor, jew all possible off the surf there at the right times.
  22. Not familiar with that reel, how much drag does it handle ? Generally I would have said that a 4000 on a 37kg rod isnt going to feel very balanced but put it on and see how you go . But if you are running 50lb braid, which in reality will break much higher, why are you going such a light leader around pylons ? Is it because the fish are shy there, else I would at least be going 50-60lb fluro or some other leader like black magic (the hard version). If you are fishing directly down from the jetty and they run into pylons alot I would be going the higher lbs personally.
  23. owner st 66 or 76 . No barra will bend them !
  24. Go the 9 inch for the better size kingies. There will be a 12 inch size coming out soon hopefully.
  25. Well, if the cooks river is anything to go by, its very brown....its a chocolate river, not to mention the tonnes of crap like bags, bottles and other assorted rubbish flowing out into the bay.
