  1. Holy smoke that's a big fish, and, if he's 40.9kgs, I reckon we'll have to drop quite a few kgs from what we thought and say low 30kgs.
  2. Okay, after catching these couple of Mahi Mahi with Gerry and Karl on the weekend, I'm interested to know how big they really get. I reckon the fish Karl caught would have weighed in the high 30kg bracket as Karl is no ballerina and he was struggling to hold this monster up to be photographed. I'm asking this question because when we retuned to the Marina and were talking to some other game fisherman that we caught a Dollie that would have been in the high 30's, we were rubbished. One bloke said, bullshit, has it been eating snapper leads.
  3. Is that around Avalon Sailing Club ??
  4. Well done. He would have given you some fun on a yak. Are there always squid around Avalon Sailing Club ??? I've had trouble finding a place in Pittwater where you know you will catch them.
  5. Don't forget that there is a ramp at Akuna Bay which has plenty of parking. You're then only a very, very short distance to Cowan Creek and Jerusalem Bay. There is a $11.00 fee for entering the National Park which includes the parking.
  6. Hmmm. Okay, do you want to sell your unit ?????
  7. Thanks for that. I will be flush mounting our unit as the boat is fitted with a useless Navman unit at present which is just about the same size.
  8. Fair enough, I wasn't too sure where to post it as there isn't a Marine Electronics section. Can someone please move it?
  9. I'm pretty keen on getting my hands on one of these units. Do we have and Raiders that can tell me if they are as good as all reports say they are???
  10. Why not have a go and do it yourself. Is it only the gelcoat that is damaged or has the fibreglass been damaged as well? I have just (last week) started doing a few little gelcoat repairs myself. If you know a nice friendly Smash Repairer he can assist you with tinting the gelcoat. All depends if the Smash Repairer has the latest and greatest paint colour matching system. He can photograph a section of the boat (I used a small rope locker lid) to assist to match the colour. They can also use a colour card system. I bought a small 250 ml tin from Whitworths ($12.95) and we tinted it as though it was 250 two-pack white base used for cars. As we were matching a white gelcoat there was not much tinter to be used. Anyway, we found that the pigment in the white gelcoat is no where near as dense as the car paint and the colour was much darker than we expected. I went and bought another 250ml tin and tinted it as though it was a 50ml tint and the colour is just about perfect. I used very small scales and measured out 5mls of the gelcoat and added only 3 drops of the catalyst. You get about ten minutes to play with it before it gels off. After is sets hard, you can sand it down with wet and dry sand paper to a smooth finish and then finish it off with a good quality rubbing compound. Remember, gelcoat is quite thick unlike car paint and you can sand till you hearts content. Hope this helps.
  11. Thanks very much for the replies. I already have a couple of apps for the iPhone, Fishweather and Angler which I find are okay but I just wanted to see what others were using. Angler is an interesting app as it has a fish activity prediction which we have found to be pretty much on the ball so far I'll download willyweather and have a look at that.
  12. That does look interesting. I does state however that it is optimized for the iPhone5, I wonder what the difference is for the iPhone4. ???
  13. As the title suggests, what are the best fishing/weather Apps you can download for your smartphone.
  14. There are many and varied weird eating habits of humans throughout the world, and, I would classify a person who likes Marlin to have a weird sense of taste as far as fish is concerned. Each to the own I guess. A little off topic, but, I was searching the web in regards to our noisy little Cicadas that invade our neighborhood during the Christmas season and was amazed to find that they are a popular source of food/protein in many countries of the world. Having said that, If I only had a choice between Marlin and Cicadas, I reckon I'd go with the former.
  15. No wonder the popular method in relation to Marlin fishing is Tag and Release . Who wants to keep the bloody things? Taste similar to a wet beer carton. :puke:
  16. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we are eating the same fish.
  17. I was given some fresh Marlin steaks in the last couple of days and thought I would give it it's best shot, so I read up on how to cook it. It seemed as though the preferred method wasto fry it in a very hot pan with olive oil and salt and pepper and a little fresh lemon juice. And, only cook it for a couple of minutes on each side. I made a tomato, basil and lime juice salsa to go with it. Fairdinkum, the taste and texture is just plain bloody horrible. It tasted like wet cardboard and is tough and dry as buggery. No wonder they tag and release these critters as they're rubbish in the kitchen. With out doubt, the worst seafood I have ever ever eaten. Edit to add... I still have two steaks left so if there is anyone out there with a tried and proven recipe, I'd like to hear about it.
  18. I bought the Shimao shirt at BCF, however, I did not see the BCF shirts.........myopic old bastard just went straight for the Shimano. How much are the BCF shirts ??
  19. Thanks for your replies fellas/gals. Job's done, bought a Shimano for myself and also my son this afternoon. Beautiful lightweight jobs with a supertight weave. They look like real sun bashers.
  20. I went fishing last Tuesday out on the Hawksbury and copped a fair old flogging by the sun. I would like to buy a plain lightweight long sleeved vented shirt. What are brands to buy and what to stand clear of ???
  21. Good on ya fellas, great writeup and obvioulsy a great couple of days was had by all concerned.
  22. No doubt about it. http://www.shootersandfishers.org.au/
  23. It's NOT as simple as that. We MUST stop the greens. By the sound of it, you are assuming that the Libs will get up. Vote Shooters and Fishers it as simple as that.
