  1. gday my ptt stator is starting to externally rust and i guess it wont be long before it goes thru to the innards, which will be an expensive hassle. it seems the aussie motor model numbers are unique to here and as the stator is quite expensive to buy here, i was thinking of buying it in usa over the net, but need to somehow get the equivalent usa model number of my motor. does anyone know how to do this ? yamaha wont help, as they want to support the local dealers, but from guess work on the model numbers in usa, the part is much cheaper there than here. any ideas cheers
  2. those size in sa are spectacular on the plate - not dry at all cheers
  3. gday raiders just got back fm a week in sa with my mate chasing snapper. we basically bagged out each time we went out morn or afternoon. heres a couple of average sized specimens. we got some bigger and some smaller, plus a few kg whiting and plenty of sharks/rays etc etc and all in all, had a ball. enjoy/cheers
  4. gday wrasse magnet castrol lmx (used to be called apx t) is the blue stuff and u can get it at most places (i got mine at sparts - forestville) cheers

    Action Discs

gday raiders anyone know where i can get "action discs". they are clear plastic discs with a small tube (for the line) about 15 cm diameter and u thread them on your line, and they impart more action on your lures when trolling. any ideas ? cheers lambo
  6. Gday Raiders With the good tides this morn, decided to try the Hawkesbury for bream. Started at the bridges at sparrows - not much. Lots of undersize bream, couple of undersize flatties and those pains in the ass - catfish. Gave it away after an hour of so and went to Marlow. Similar result - undersized bream and catfish. Managed 1 small tailor. Then went to Bar Point reef. Put the Tailor over on a big handline. Still tried for bream, then suddenly the Bream started. Got a couple of good hits, and landed a good one. After several more, the bream rod went crazy - and I landed this nice jew - not too bad for the middle of the day and on 3 kg gear with a small hook - took abt 25 minutes to get it in. Let the tailor go (he was still swimming)and came home as it was starting to get busy - think lots of early starters for the fishing comp. Cheers Lambo
  7. we were down there this time last year. the creek was good for crabs, and the northern entrance cliffs good for trolling up sambos, tailor and the odd king. the drift across the middle was ok for flatties. good luck

    Battery

hey guys looks like i hv to get a new battery for the evacool fridge/freezer. a deep cycle n70 will do the job. i can get a century ns70t for $165 from batteries direct, sydney. any one get any better ideas/prices in sydney. cheers
  9. gday catfish take yr winter woolies as its quite cold. days about 10-15, nites 2-8, but all depands on the wind. its colder if it really blows. if u look at the bom website radar (sellicks hill) u can get an idea of the temps/wind directions. we stay at baudin beach, abt 15 k fm the penneshaw ferry terminal, with my mates brother who lives there. we fished from my mate's tinny in lots of spots around eastern cove. used frozen goolwa cockels (pipis) for the kgw, and yo zuris for the squid we caught(no pictures, but got heaps). not too sure abt land based as never tried that, but i believe christmas cove (abt 1 k west of penneshaw) is ok for various fish - tommies, kgw, red mullet and squid. i also think the wharf at american river and kingscote are ok. u cud get the odd salmon on the southern side off the beaches, but this time of the year u wud be very lucky to find them fishable due to wind. i def think the best option wud be to go with a local charter - and they operate fm kingscote and american river. good luck with camping - u will need to be imaginative to keep warm.... cheers and let me know how u go
  10. hey raiders just got back from a great trip to ki. froze our wotnots off, but as u can see fm the profile picture, th king george were on. the best went just over 800 grams and 60 cm. cant wait till we go again in feb to chase the snapper cheers maybe this time the photo attanced
  11. hi raiders bit quiet today. left roseville 0630. trolled outside nth head to manly - few tailor, couple of hits and hook ups on rapala green and blue mackrel. saw a school of salmon but they wud not play - very easily spooked. picked up a bonito on the way back, off middle head. will bash it again later in the week. cheers
  12. gday ken hv been up there bareboating quite a few times - usually fm airlie not schute hbr, although that makes little difference. there are usually plenty of squid around at night and the light on the stern/or crosstrees of the yacht shud attract them, then try yozuris. they are good eating. the boat will hv a tender and u can usually get plenty of reef fish on dusk around chalkies (opposite whitehaven) and solway passage (sth end of whitehaven) on squidgies. tongue bay (nth end of whitehaven) is also good and we got a good cobia there, again on squidgies. when u are lesiurely sailing during the day, try trolling xmas trees/big metal slugs - u mite get a spaniard - but it wud be interesting if u did get one on a yacht with only 2 onboard. the boat will also hv a book "100 magic miles" which has some stuff on fish and espec what not to eat. watch for the restricted zones - ignorance is no excuse gave a good one (or several,,,) cheers
  13. hey raiders left rosy ramp abt 0630 in the tinny. trolled nth head to manly for a couple of hours. bonito, bonito and more bonito, 12 hits 10 hook ups and landed 8, 2 being 60 cm plus, the rest about 40/50 cms. they hit rapalas blue and green mackrel, both on my abu ambassadeur 7000's. also had out a silver halco slice on my shimano 10 kg rod and tld 20, not a touch. got a bit sick of that so went round the wedding cakes and downrigged dead squid on the shimano - 1 hit - either a king or a sambo and had a great run towards the wedding cake where it busted me off. what a nice day out there. back at the ramp 11.30 and home just after that, where i fired up the smoker - smoked bonito kedgeree tonite - yummy - and i'll turn the frames and heads into blue swimmers when they start up the hawksbury...... cheers

    Tinny Repair

gday raiders. can i hv a bit of advice pls. my tinnie as a leak in the bottom, where the keel meets the hull. its not too bad, but i hv to switch the bilge pump on for a little while every hour or so, and its a bit annoying. when i hv it out of the water, i put some water in with the hose and can see roughly where the leak is. i'd ideally like something u can pour on from the inside (like araldite which is quite thick and wont flow too quickly but still get into the leak b4 it sets)and not the 2 part expoxy aluminium repair stuff which mite be a bit hard to get right into the effected part. appreciate yr help thanks a lot
  17. hey guys i has the same problem on tuesday does anyone know what the fisheries gizmos are researching for ?? cheers
  18. hey mate i use a "aussie fish smoker" made by southern metal spinners in sth aust. all made in ausie. its stainless and works a treat. bonito, salmon, tailor, trout etc all smoke up a treat. i usually rub them inside and out with brown sugar and a bit of salt. i usually fillet the bonito and salmon immy on capture and leave the rest whole (cleaning/bleeding ofc). i smoke the fish using various types of sawdust u can get fm bbq's galore etc. about 10/12 mins hot smoking does the trick for 2 racks of fish. when they are cool remove nay of the salt/sugar residue, the enjoy. as i am a bit slack, i only clean the wire racks. cheers
  19. I usually tie my braid straight onto the jig. Yozuris are finely balanced and heavy leader upsets their balance and they dont work so well. I dont seem to hv trouble with the squid seeing (or not) the braid - I use 6 kg black or yellow
  20. I'm off there for a week starting 26/10. Anyone had any luck there recently either in the estuary or outside ? cheers
  21. great report - well done. u did better than me the week b4 last, but i'm thinking of doing similar on thu/fri - weathher permitting
  22. depends on many things. if u had yr own boat (bit of a trip to trail it all that way) then i'd try cape leveque where its awesome. the exmouth/murion islands area is also great. if u dont hv yr own boat, there are plenty of charters to go on. i did a trip last year exmouth/murion islands area with a local charter guy who has a 28 foot plate boat. we got heaps of spaniards, rankin cod, red emperor etc etc - all people on board (4 plus skipper and his deckie) bagged out. just fantastic and only about $140 for the day.
  23. not lately. a year or so ago there was not much there - a bit of algae and quite a lot of fresh in the system, but maybe better now. let us know how u go
  24. still a bit early - perhaps another 2 to 3 weeks shud see them satring to come back fm the sea. having done whatever crabs do at sea .
  25. that must have tested the yak cheers and well done
