I'm pretty new to the squidding.. so when's the best season for the squid in Sydney east coast? I thought it was from late winter to mid spring (but that's reading something from Victoria-Port Philip Bay)

caught 5 of these bad boys at botany heads!!! here's 1 of them (2nd biggest) - gave the rest away to family
  6. funny you asked....yeah it almost jumped into the boat when it got near! scared the sht out of me!! was ready to jump out of the boat!! hahaha it then took off again and bit through line
  7. just a whole pilly. we saw a shark circling the boat (maybe a few different ones) so threw out a pilly, 2 mins later.....bent rod and line peeling the one hooked was much bigger than the ones spotted, so i guess there might have been a few
  8. Cheers Mako2000 Even at that size? Heard that some sharks (school) aren't good to eat over the 1m mark. I guess it's the same filleting technique as gummy's?
  9. roughly around 1.6 to 1.7m in length.... looked like a Mako - hooked just outside botany heads. Fight lasted approx 5 mins, had many chances to gaff it but didnt know what to do with it so just played it until it bit me off. Top fight though!!! Question - Are Mako's any good on the plate?
  10. awesome effort!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Thanks-we used the myola ramp. Good to launch but very shallow especially at low tide driving out to the bay. Cheers!
  12. Hi raiders. Got to Callala beach boat ramp, low tide ish, way too shallow to launch... Anyone know of the nearest one? Looking at going to the tube
  13. Hi raiders, I've seen this device on fishing shows... It's a plastic thing that can be put on the bottom of the rod and act like a cushion / gimbal. Anyone know what this is called and maybe where I can buy one? Cheers!!
  14. I wish more fish from NZ will come over here than the Kiwis themselves hahaha
  15. CANT BELIEVE THAT'S IN SYDNEY!!!!! hurry on this video mate!!
  16. no. just used a heavy sinker, drifted with sea anchor (too many selfish fishos on the boat to DR haha) Yakkas were a little slow going - too many sweep hanging around at the beginning, then the yakka numbers came. conditions looks great for this weekend - chance of rain though..
  17. sorry raiders - broke my kingy drought for this "season" ...oops.... agree with highspin....depends on land or boat..and many other things e.g. also depends on quality of gear and definitely depends on the size of the kingy - sometimes you just cant stop the bus!!! My gear: 14,000 shimano sargossa (drag set at 5kgs approx - this is a bit light - should've been around 10kg i reckon), 10kg uglystick one piece, 65lb TUF braid, 80lb black magic leader Rig: size 6 hook, back of yakka head
  18. Hey raiders went out sunday morning up and down south botany heads managed 6 kings from 70cm+...all caught on live yakkas biggest went around the 80cm'ish mark... not one rat...if this is what to go by, I CAN WAIT FOR SUMMER Cheers!!
  19. thanks. someone was saying it's a lowie?? hmm
  20. Nice work boys...I'm thinking about taking up offshore game fishing as well and was just wondering how far wide do you need to go to get some juicy YFT !! I've got a Stacer Runabout 4.65m with a 70hp enginer and about a 70ltr fuel tank. Would I need to upgrade to handle the conditions wide? naturally I wouldnt be going out in big swell + wind. Any advice would be much appreciated.
  21. Does anyone know what fish is this???
  22. hi raiders, i decided to install the hummingbird fishfinder 300c after some good advise by fellow raiders. im not sure if i did it correctly as sometimes it works fine and sometimes the picture looks faulty (shows fish everywhere..i wish!!) anyone know where i went wrong?
