  1. Thanks Raiders!! I'll try unplugging the cables etc as advised tonight. I've attached pics of the back of steering and the cables to the motor.
  2. THAT'S HUGE!!!!! if that's any sign of what's coming up for summer, IM EXCITED!!!
  3. Thanks for the replies all! Chrisg: Yes, it's the same out of the water. Whaler 255 / Rickb: Sorry, im very new to boating so not too sure if it's "hydraulic". I'll check tonight when i get home and see if there's any cap on the back of the steering for me to top up with "sterring oil"?. Not sure if it helps, but the boat is approx built in 1995. Motor is Mercury (blue band) 40hp oil injected (i think).
  4. Hey Raiders, Would anyone know why it's hard for me to steer the steering wheel to the left? It feels like wires are jammed behind the steering wheel?? Turning right is easy but once you steer back to centre, it's difficult and when the engine is straight again the wheel gets really tight when your trying to make the engine turn so the boat goes left. hopefully it's a common and easily repairable issue...thanks in advance!!
  5. OH MY GOD!!!!!!! THEY'RE FAT AND HUGE!!!
  6. Awesome catch!!! Im hanging to catch a green eye!! one day.....one day...
  7. fresh crabs!!! awesome!! well done guys.. fresh flatty fillets too...bonus!!!
  8. That's one fat pig Ray! Well done. I reckon they're up there pound for pound when it comes to their fight.
  9. Nice catched there groper! Did you catch the squid on the bottom?
  10. a mate sent me this picture and i cant figure out what fish it is... he claims it's a kingy but the angle of the shot and the dirtiness of the fish makes it difficult to identify.. tail end looks a bit thick for a kingy
  11. hey squidy, yeah we were the only 2 boats left after that storm i think...how calm was it after the storm!!?? havent been very successful with the snapper at all this season.
  12. i actually didn't eat it (not a big fish eater) - but gave it to the missus family who love their seafood was approx 3 hours from time of catch to on the plate(steamed with ginger, shallots, soy sauce, fresh chillis) - they said it was beautiful!!!! oh yeah, my mate got stung by a red rock cod (i think it's part of the scorpion fish family) - be careful with these buggers
  13. Hi raiders! Thought to put a pic up on this mowie caught outside port hacking heads using banana prawns on sunday (after the storm!) Measured close to 50cm, not a bad fight on 20lb line (was hoping for snapper)... Caught other fish as well but no pic: Trevs and LJs mainly
  14. Hey All!! I dont do much "big fishing" and wanted a decent real for around $100 as a starter as im planning to venture out catching the bigger fish soon. I saw this reel for around that price.. Would anyone recommend this? Pflueger Torsion High Speed Fishing Reel Model 60
  15. they are fat!!!!! check out the swell in the 1st pic...
  16. yeah, the oldies love it in soup!!! strange, i know!!
  17. Bagged out limit (20 pp) in 30 mins outside port hacking on saturday. They are in plague proportions!!!! Just imagine what the damage to our waters / other fish would be if they had mouths the size of a piranha...see good write up in the link below: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw-act/a-piranha-like-plague-as-ravenous-swarms-of-leatherjackets-eat-all-they-can-see/story-e6freuzi-1225865248740
  18. I was at day dream island approx 18 months ago. I caught live bait (herring) and used them under a float rig. Caught a few different species e.g. cod, groper and not sure what this other one was but it was a decent size. Caught some big squid at night (30cm+ hood and fat)!! Had one really good run which peeled off a lot of my 20lb fireline, then busted me off on the corals. Anyway, try throwing out a livie and you could potentially get onto something quite decent from that tropical part of QLD e.g. GTs, Mangrove Jack etc Saw some other guys (locals) trolling, so that could be a go too. Good luck.
  19. same, been there a couple years ago...great little dam to see a good variety of local fish and the fish in there are huge!!!! not sure if the above photos do it justice as the lizards are at least 65cm and fat!!! fishopete: if you're fishing off the boat, grab some live poddies - there are plenty aroud the boat ramp and fish around the breakwall in the creek, try drifting as well if landbase, try near the mouth of the creek. also, along the beach in the bay, you should get some whiting / flathead.
  20. Thanks all. I will try a combo of everone's idea. I guess i'll try and flush out as much as possible at a wharf close by and/or use a 20lt "garbage bin" of freshwater and flush it out that way. I'm guessingthat i need to run a hose into the "garbage bin" to the motor and the motor pumps itself? Sorry, i don't much about motors (as yet).
  21. Hi Raiders, Considering investing in a 2nd hand boat and motor. How would I flush the motor with freshwater if i was moored at Rose Bay? Motor is 115hp, Yamaha (2006). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Apologies if this is covered of in previous posts... Cheers.
  22. Gday Raiders!!! About to head off to Daydream Island mid August with the missus… I will charter a fishing trip, but mostly want to fish land base as well off Daydream Island while the missus soaks up the sun.. Been told I can only fish from the southern end of the island and it’s catch and release (no probs with that). Would like to know the gear I should take there and what I could expect to catch/target? Was just thinking of taking a 4kg 7ft graphite rod and daiwa series 2500 (8-10lb fireline), with lure pack (metals, SPs, hard bodies)…would this be enough? Any other info would be great too…thanks in advance!!
  23. Hey Raiders!! Sorry about the point form details: Wednesday morn approx 8:30am. Incoming tide, almost High. Bait: Potty mullett. Georges River: Spot X Gear: Graphite 7ft, Okuma baitunner 30. 10lb fireline. 15lb mono trace. This stomper smashed the bait, buckled my rod and took approx 5 mins to land...seemed a lot longer!!! Didn't measure it at the time (no ruler!!). But measured the full length of the bucket today (45cm)... Tasted beautiful baked wrapped in foil, ginger, shallots, corriander, soy, sesame, pepper, lemon slices...
