  1. Hi, I have heard there are some locations around the Hacking that prohibits pumping of bait, could someone list the places that you CAN pump or you CANNOT depending on which list is longer Also, I was wondering how I get about accessing Mainbar landbased for pumping nippers, I've taken a look on google maps and I am not sure where to start/how to access the area. Thanks, Ray.
  2. Hi, I was wondering how you guys maintain your cork handles on your rods as mine is beginning to crack and split already after about 5 outings
  3. Hi, I've seen on AFC that the pros sometimes mix their plastics all in one container with what I presume to be Gulp Alive formula, I was wondering if I can mix the Gulps and Powerbaits together ? Thanks.
  4. He mentioned he was using squid, sounds a bit like a flatty to me, especially the stopping and starting, usually they try to bury themselves in the sand/substrate again.
  5. yeah ive been sight fishing some squid there but i am also interested in targetting breams and flatties, i might walk around the place more next time
  6. Hi, I've been trying SP's at Rose Bay wharf for a few sessions and have had no success so far, I've been casting off the wharf straight out, has anyone tried SPing at the wharf? Theres a building that stands in the water on the side and I have been casting underneathe with still no success.
  7. I was tossing up between Shimano Catana 2-4kg and the Starlo stix 2-5kg, both 7'2 I mainly fish around the Hacking, landbased, so im targetting the usual, bream, whiting, flatties and occasionally squidding. Which rod would you all recommend? Thanks.
  8. so do we enter thru from Kings bay direction? Is there like a pathway that seperates the river and the golfcourse or are we obstructing the course
  9. Hey stewy, at H&C/Specifically around the golf course area, are there specific visible structures were casting to? Or are we just casting around and then moving if theres no action
  10. Ive been told that herring can be caught around Lugarno area, I have not caught one as of yet but could someone show me a picture of what they look like and how to fish for them? Thanks, Ray.
  11. Landbased, fished from 630am til 1130 am Fished the run in tide for a bit and the action started during the run out All fish kept, caught off bait. Biggest measuring close to 36cm, with 3 others similar size Also landed my first EVER bream on SPs, on a stinger hooked worm, i now feel that more confident that i will be able to land my second bream, on a different SP. Even though it was small, its still motivating. PS. I know the rules about a free hanging hook, but that hook was dislodged after hooking up to that bream with the worm, and it was placed back in to reuse afterwards.
  12. Im a regular at Illawong and have been quite successful the past few trips, good work on using those small prawns there.
  13. Hmm.. i'd rather let something of that size go, feels more right, as ive already got some school prawns as bait
  14. Thanks all, eels are a delicacy in asian meals, very healthy. That prawn/shrimp is one of the biggest ive seen to date over there whilst night fishing. Byron, until i get snapped off by a bycatch jew, then i will start worrying and maybe upgrading gear to target them haha.
  15. Thanks Pete. Not quite sure atm what im going to do with the eel, mum will come up with an idea, asian style dish ?
  16. Fished on the 16th at night, and 17th in arvo. Both days were rainy and seemed gloomy, wind very strong and picking up as the time went on, but we stuck on. All fish were caught on bait. 16th Smallest being 26cm, and largest 33cm, the eel was caught on a whole servo squid. The prawn was netted and measured 33cm if the tail was stretched out. Prawn was released 17th Smallest measuring just legal, whilst the largest, 33cm. The whitings were taken on cut prawns. Overall, both days were pretty packed with breams, not much whiting at all, only caught 2 in the past 2 sessions. I tried SPs but had no luck, except for a small tailor
  17. Went for an early session in the morning, went all out SPs and landed my first fish other than flatties, a 26cm tailor, pretty stoked after asking alot of Raiders on what the line movements look like as the fish takes the SP, noticing the line movements Raiders described, i striked and hooked up. I also landed a flatty that was just a little bit bigger than my worm cut down, no photo as it was quickly released back. Both fish released except for this flathead taken on bait, 45cm. Also went out later at night, and noticed in the water, 4 flatheads, skined and gutted, 2 45cms, and the other 2 just legal, they werent stiff so im assuming the water kept it from stiffening up or they were fresh and left there just before i arrived Not trusting what happened to these flatties, threw them back close to the rocks to feed the crabs.
  18. Just picked up 5 packets of these for 25cents each at &&*&*&, im guessing they tagged it wrong, but still what a great pick up as they are usually $5.90. Am i right to believe that these are perfect for targetting flatties inshore around the georges. Also what size jigheads would you recommend for these sized lures.
  19. Well, for bait fishing you can, but as you want to go lure fishing, you should have some leader, some people have a general rule of 'length of the rod', uni-uni knot the lines to join them, Fluro carbon or mono depending on what lures you want to use, from previous posts i see you fish around Georges/Easthills area ? Not much luck there for me using SPs, more better towards lugarno.
  20. good work on those jewies, i fish around that area, Illawong, havent tried the Alfos bridge yet even though we always pass it on the way to illawong, do you happen to know if the alfos bridge is accessible landbased ?
  21. Alright, i'll be getting another spool of 4lb fireline then, my current fireline, the line sort of like unweaves into seperate strands, im assuming its a bad spool, does 4lb fireline result in more birdsnest/wind knots than heavier line ?
  22. So in general, 6-10lb is not much different to 4lb fireline, just the slight difference in resistance, if i were to use 10lb fireline and say 6lb fluro carbon for SPs, would i be affected much as compared to 4lb fireline and 6lb fluro carbon ?
  23. I thought the purpose of long light fluro carbon leader was to reduce the visiblity of the braid to the lure. Yep, just going for table fish, both with bait and SPs.
  24. Can someone explain to me why people recommend using low pound fireline say 4lb, whats the difference between 4lb and 6-10lb?
  25. I wouldnt say theres nothing decent, on the 19th, landed a 37 and 33cm bream
