  1. Havent fished there myself, but always travelling past it on the train and noticing the high and low tides, the water level is VERY shallow there, I'd much rather go elsewhere, say Easthills/Picnic point if you are going to fish somewhere around there. Im pretty sure the jumping fish are mullets as they are all over east hills/picnic point
  2. are you going for poddies? The first time i ever went fishing at east hills i landed 17 poddies, second time 9, all at east hills, seems like all of us live/fish around picnic point/east hills, maybe a meet up one day
  3. plenty of mullet around there, mainly poddies, good area to go to get some live bait, occasional whitings, will be heading out there tomorrow to gather some more poddies
  4. ahh picnic point, is there still plenty around atm, as i live only a few minutes away from picnic point
  5. I was fishing last night and a fisho there said last time he hooked up to a small fish, he assumed it was a small whiting so he just left it there in a rod holder without reeling it back and he said he suddenly had a huge pull and landed a 60ish cm flatty, later on when he gutted the fish, there was the whiting. Would this also be considered illegal ? Personally i dont think its right, but you cant really help it if say you were away doing something, a fish self hooks and then another fish comes over and takes it
  6. 8:30pm-2am Went out for a night fishing session, fished the run out to half the run in, landed 2 nice bream, 37cm, and a 33cm (no pic of 33cm), 3 whiting, and some unique fish i have never seen before (bad photo due to no lights, one very bright torch, and a quick photo to get it back into the water ASAP). All fish on bait. I assume its some sort of catfish like species as it has those same 'whisker' features as catfish, but the body features are what surprises me, with the patterns and all. Roughly 22cm, taken on some old squid

    Poddy Mullet

keeping them alive is no problem, but i was just wondering about the dead poddy mullet part, can we cut them into strips and use them as ive heard of the 'only live' use of poddy mullet Also, for flatties/bream, how would you suggest to rig whole dead poddies/strips of poddies, hook size etc.
  8. Nice haul of flatties you got there, I was wondering, with poddy mullets ive heard they must only be used live and that dead ones would be considered use of undersized mullet, im not sure, so im wondering if I am able to store dead poddy mullets leftover from a session, or what happens if the mullets die within a live well/whilst rigging/rigged up

    Poddy Mullet

If any poddy mullets die, must they be returned to the water ? Ive heard that poddy mullets have to be used live, what if the mullet dies whilst rigging it up/hooked?
  10. Are these effective during the night, esp the poppers, i know its possible to catch fish with SPs at night, but I was wondering if its similar to using them during the day, eg. the same types of retrieves Not too sure about poppers, but on a calm water i can sort of picture some sort of action on poppers. Georges River btw
  11. Good work on those bream, shame about the lost ones, seems like Georges river is starting to heat up a little.
  12. Another 2 legal bream, whilst another 3 taken by my grandpa left earlier so no picture of his 3, also landed 4 whiting. Fairly hot day, quite strong winds All taken on bait, SPs were a no go due to wind and lack of bites. Also tried for blackfish but no luck, as I am a complete beginner at targetting blackfish, if anyone is willing to take me out and show me some strings on blackfishing around picnic point/lambeth park that'll be nice as i live around 5 minutes away from there, I also have collected weed and cabbage from lake macquarie 27cm and 34.5cm
  13. Just to make sure, I found this weed/cabbage the other day and was wondering if this is the correct weed for blackfishing ?
  14. Landbased. Fished the run in tide, landed another few whiting, and this one big bream, went 39 cm. Once again, crabs for the bream, took a while for the crab to be taken, but finally hook up to this bream Didnt have the landing net so was a bit worried when i saw the size of it appear out of the deeps, had to lift it out by hand, dad got a few cuts doing so but it was well worth it, biggest, pb bream so far.
  15. Started around 6:30, not much luck with SPs, I was getting hits but no hook ups so at least i know im slowly refining my techniques, i stuck with the shrimp SPs as there were prawns around. All fish caught on bait All 6 on cut up prawn. 32cm Good way to spend a weekend with the family post HSC.
  16. how about poppers? i dont really have a variety of HBs, how about a smilin jack prawn
  17. Would these areas be likely places/structure to target bream and flatties on SPs/HBs? I've caught bream, flatties and whiting here on bait but no luck with SPs, the substrate is mainly sand and more towards the mangroves mud. The water around this location is under 1 metre Under this mangrove is sand This mangrove is in mud and with a fair bit of rocks around with oysters growing on them. This is towards the right/further out of the picture above, likewise, mud. A concrete jetty, both sides sand, this is where iget most of my whiting, up close and out further, the jetty is visible in the first photo. So, are these areas likely places to target bream/flatties on SPs/HBs, around the jetty always holds small prawns and also small fish. To the left of the jetty always holds mullets jumping around Thanks, Ray.
  18. Im looking for a 'decent' SP rod but within an $80 budget, I know that might be a bit low but could anyone give me some suggestions or maybe another raider has a second hand rod that they wouldnt mind departing from, I was looking at the Shimano Catana, pretty cheap and ive read some good reviews about them Thanks, Ray.
  19. Good work on those flatties and i have also been looking at those rods on ebay
  20. bit of an old post but could someone tell me where abouts the georges river he was fishing?
  21. thats a nice looking flathead, better than what ive achieved with plastics the last few outings with these windy conditions
  22. Another quick session after school with brother and dad Where: Illawong - Landbased Weather: Cloudy, light showers, windy Fish: 2 legal bream (1x 32cm, 1x 28cm) Few undersized bream 1 undersized flathead Bait: Bream - Prawns, Crabs Plastics: Flathead - Squidgy wriggler (found at spot) Quick session from 2:30-6:30 Flathead was caught right at my feet when i found the wriggler while fishing with prawns, decided to place it on my long shank hook and just swirl around in the water to see the action, to my surprise a flathead happened to be right where i was. Very lucky to even hook that flathead as the hook wasnt placed properly intending to catch any fish, just to muck around with the plastic, so expect the unexpected. The rest of the bream were caught on prawns/crabs
  23. i cant wait til that session stewy haha, but yeah you do make it seem easy
  24. damn sounds like a thrilling ride, it seems to always be boring at the start but then fires up when your about to leave. wish i could get out to a session with you soon stewy
  25. First report on FR, long weekend so lots of boats obviously, found a nice shady area at Illawong to settle for a nice day out fishing with my parents and brother, was an alright day compared to other days ive gone down for sessions, in total 1 x 33cm bream 3 x 28-30cm whiting 2 x just legal bream (let go) 1 x flounder alot of undersized bream/tarwhine/tailor most were caught on prawns, except the bream on crabs, didnt give the SP's a go as there were alot of rock snags at the area we went to Overall, was a good way to spend time with family Havent seen these in ages
