  1. Great shots Ray!!! I can remember watching the late Gene Dundon from Gosford Anglers Club pulling out Bream & Blackfish out of Avoca rock pool when it was like that!!!!! Awhile ago now, around 1988.
  2. Great to see the young bloke getting into the action. Hate to say but its not a Cobia but a Remora. As other Raiders have said, "hang on to sharks & rays picking up a free ride& a free lunch". Adds to your capture list
  3. Sorry for the late report. Had a fish on "Marquis" on the 5th & 6th of Feb. On the Sunday we fished with lures in perfect conditions all day. We went 2 2 0 for the day, dropped a nice Blue after afew minutes on 130lb tackle then a small Stripe that also jumped on for a few minutes then spat the lure. The "Carpark" was at its best with over 60 boats fishing the area as the Lake Macquarie Tournament was on that weekend. I beleave that over 230 Marlin were tagged for the two days of the comp. Some boats had up to 13 tag flags, includeing a "double" Grand Slam!!! 2 x Stripes, 2 x Blues, 2 x Blacks to a mate of mine from the Central Coast On Monday the 6th we had a full crew,so we fished a combination of skip baits & live baits & we went 4 4 1 for the day.We tagged a healthy Stripe Marlin around 90kgs which took a skip bait. The bite had slowed down alittle but the bait was still stacked up from 80 fathoms right up to 30 fathoms. It was very fishy, Stipe Tuna were flicking everywhere, pods of Dolphins,Sunfish, even a few small Hammerhead sharks. We did see the weirdest thing There was a leatherjacket that was on the surface after it had been jigged up & then discarded. As it swam in circles a bloody huge Marlin ,maybe a Blue swam staight up to it and then engulfed it in one gulp!!!!! Finally we have a use for them!!!! But stuffed if I know how to rigg them Boattart reported that yestaday that they went 1 1 1 on a nice Black Marlin in trying conditions with a 20 knot NNE breeze. They are out again today Sunday pulling lures chaseing that Big Blue, more than likely down in the bad lands of the Newcastle Canyons.....
  4. Yes its good to see a close in bite. Like many of us I hope it hangs around. Just have to get this weather to give us break Was at the weighstation at Botany Bay GFC as we were also fishing the tournament. Some good sharks weighed, Sydney GFC boat, Blood'N'Guts, got a nice Tiger, 396kgs on 15kg on the Saturday & backed it up with another one Sunday (not sure of weight) Botany Bay GFC boat,Sniper also got a good Tiger at 288kgs on 15kg. Home Strait from Bass Strait GFC got a cracker of a Mako shark on the Sunday 373kgs on 15kgs. Heaviest marlin was 95.5kg black to Sydney GFC boat Ungry. Champion boat tag& release was Greyhounder from Wollongong GFC Champion boat capture was Blood 'N' Guts from Sydney GFC There was also a nice Blue Marlin weighed by "My Way". I beleave at 167kgs on 24kg. Unfortunately they were not entered in the tournament. There was a tournament boat which capsized down south near Bellambi while hooked up. If not for the quick thinking of the crew on Sydney GFC boat Casey who were also fighting a fish & cut theres off to race to the assistance of the up turned vessel & pluck all who were on board to safety . A major loss of life was averted. Big thumbs up to the crew of Casey :thumbup:And a big well done also to Neil at Tournament Base who co-ordinated the rescue . Also a big thank you from all in the fishing community.
  5. Just heard from Boattart that Marquis tagged another nice Blue Marlin approximately 150kgs,last Saturday,at Port Stephens. All there fish have been on lures. It was good to see that "Boattart" was the actual angler as he is usually on the trace!!! I think it might be his first fish for a few years!!! Although I know through personel experience that he has been involved in countless tagg & release of Marlin up & down the coast in over 30 years of gamefishing Other boats have been working the usual haunts like "The Carpark",Allmark & the Newcastle Canyons. Most boats have been comeing away with 3 to 8 bites per day. I hope to be out with the boys this weekend, weather permitting.
  6. Nice "Blue" there mate. Good fish on 24kg! Hope it did'nt put any war wounds on that shiney gelcoat . Good to see Stuey catching a "stick face" instead of "toothie critters" Looking forward to getting up there shortly. Hope to finally break my "chair" duck.... Oh yeah....thanks for the tip on your nagg.....
  7. Great report mate!!! Love my "Jack" fishing as well. They are so good on the "chew' also.. Personally I think they taste better than Barra or dare I say even Fingermark. Hope you get stretched some more
  8. Just remember that the boat is the biggest lure!!!! All that ruckus (yes a good lure!!!) on the surface. Keep those big lures short. Remember Greg when we fished with Andy on Nautitax all those years ago how he always ran that "VB Beer Can Lure" on the short corner....Well it was'nt there for show. He got his best Blue Marlin on that lure at 264kg on 37kg. We always run a Black Bart "Grander Candy" on the short corner, right on top of a "witch doctor"these days. Just for when that "Big Blue" pops up!!!! Learnt that one from the boys on "Marquis" As for the lumo sprocket on the long rigger/corner.....first lure out....no question......
  9. Well done Mike & crew...Good to see you turning some reels. Can confirm your Marlin sighting,as we actually tagged a nice Stripe Marlin around 100kg on the Saturday, fishing on the SGFC boat Seaduece. We did'nt fish the comp either so we stayed up north away from all the boats shark fishing. We found a nice "puddle" of 21 degree water in 100 fathoms due east of Barrenjoey. The fish took a bibless minnow in a blue mackeral colour. Was very lucky we managed to stay connected to the fish,as I'm sure you know they tend to shake those minnow type lures off pretty quickly. Might have to put some of your favorite Marlin lures out as you travel between spots!!!!
  10. All goodstuff ther SG. You can also try wind-on leaders...very effective. When useing circle hooks don't "strike" the fish on the take...very important. Just push the drag up slowly (alot easeier with a lever drag)....& just lean back on the rod. The hook will do the rest & should pin its self in the corner of the jaw........unfortunenately 100,000 longliners can't be wrong!!!!
  11. Just got a report from Rob on his boat Marquis. They went 8 8 4 for the weekend just gone. Three Blue Marlin,to approximately 200kg and a Stripe Marlin around 100kg. They also got a 12kg Wahoo for the BBQ. They were fishing just over the shelf & Rob reports that they had an incredable 29.3 degree water!!!!! All fish were caught on lures and tagged & released. Looking forward to getting up there!!!!!!
  12. All great advice...Don't forget your boat is your biggest lure!! So don't 'run' your lures to far back, 20 to 25 metres at the most. Also put one right in the prop wash only 5 metres back. Kingys love the prop wash!!!! Get hold of some Pakula Micro Uzi's they are deadly. The lumo green & the purple are cracker. Mr m00d.........Check the towing points on your lures make sure they are straight. More important on tow points that are on the lure body not on the bib!!!!
  13. Dude!!! Where's my fish??????????? Well done to you & the boys. Don't forget I need some "skip" baits for Marlin...... They are easier to rig at home than on the boat!!! LOL
  14. Yes a Rays Bream......Longliners get afew of these critters. Let me tell you the crews send them to the galley quick time!!! They are delicious eating....
  15. Might be a Stargazer.....May be Slinky or Ray R can confirm?
  16. What do you think is in 90% of "canned tuna" ??? The humble Stripe Tuna........
  17. Well done Mad Mullett.......What a classic!!! All of us on Marquis had a good laugh listening on the radio!!! Bad luck on the "bites" We were lucky enough to go 2 2 1 for the day. Tagged a nice Stripe Marlin around 70kg in 130 fathoms east of Botany Bay. The trusty Pakula medium Lumo Sprocket was the lure of choice. Went out yestaday on the 47' Riviera Seadeuce, did very well on the dollys at the wide FAD. Water temp was amazeing at 26.5 degrees!!!! Had a troll for a few hours for zeros but did see 3 free jumping beakies. Looks good for the Port Hacking comp this weekend.
  18. Another day on the "horsies". Well done mate!!! I will have to start calling you... Suitcase!!! Because I'm always carrying you at work!!!
  19. Hi Warnie 100.......A good speed is about 5 knots, but 7 to 9 knots is ok for xmas trees& skirted lures. Dont run them to far back,25 metres at the most. Remember your biggest lure is the boat!!! Get yourself some deep diveing lures, the CD 10 or 12 Rapala in pilchard colours are very good, so is the Halco Laser Pro. The new Pakula "mini uzi" skirted lures are absolutely brilliant!!! Try to troll as close to the rocks as you can, concentrateing on the "wash zone'. Just be very careful and have confidence in your boat & motor. Tight lines.
  20. Well done Smashed Crab & crew......... That Black of yours is a very solid fish. May all your fish be stick faces!!!
  21. Well done Rusty Marlin on your "Grand Slam" Top effort!!! Goodluck to all boats fishing the Luhrs Billfish Shootout. Weather is looking good & as we all know there have been a few beakies about. Marquis will be there. Hope to raise a few. Tight lines everyone.
  22. Quick up date from Port Stephens: The boys on Marquis went 7-7-3 yesterday. Two Stripes and one Black Marlin. They tell me they lost a good Blue Marlin on a lumo sprocket when the sampo broke!!! Robbed them of a possible "Grand Slam"!!! Fish were at both the car park and Newcastle canyons. The Stripes were caught on skip baits. Other boats did well in the last few days as well. The boys seeing a Victorian trailer boat with seven tag flags up. Goodluck to all boats fishing up there this weekend.
  23. Hi Boattart!!!! Hope you and all the lads have a great week at Port Let us all know how you go!!! Remember: Don't drink the "Apple Juice"
  24. Just a quick update from Port Stephens. Marquis has been raiseing fish everyday!!! Alot of big stripes and blues also little blacks in close. Charter boat Calypso went 7 from 9 bites today........5 stripes and 2 blacks!!!
  25. Well done!!! I stand corrected!!!! Will be up there on Sunday, hope to catch up.
