  1. Things are hotting up!! Botany Bay G.F.C boat Marquis had a 2 2 2 on Stripe Marlin on there way to Port Stephens yesterday, both fish were hooked and tagged at the Newcastle canyons on lures. Water temp was 24.8 degrees. Also Sydney G.F.C. boat Ambition tagged a blue and a black marlin. I did hear of alot of other boats tagging fish last weekend...... Last weeks Golden Lure Tournament at Port Macquarie reported record numbers of marlin on the bite! Hopefully the good water and fishing will hang around for the Interclub at the end of Feburary.
  2. Well done lads........good fish. My guess it is a Blue Marlin, going by the shape of the head and long lower jaw. The Apollo Evil.....every marlin fisho should have at least one!!!
  3. Well done lads............Remember......NO!!! Mullet is to big for a Jewie bait!!!!! Stick a 10/0 in there back & get them out there!!!! I'm sure there are alot of "Jewie Specialists" who will agree..........
  4. Go to West Gosford Bait &Tackle, see Bob Williams there and he will have some. He will also have just the "blanks" so you can put your own hooks&colours on. He has them made by a local chap who was one of the original "high speed spinning" pioneers back in the late 60's early 70's down at Avoca and Terrigal. My apoligies to the mods if I'm breaking posting rules.
  5. Well done lads!!! Thats a cracker!!! My money is on it being a Bigeye Tuna.........
  6. Did hear of Sydney boat 'Ambition' getting five fin' to 30kgs on the cube north east of Browns. Also another Sydney boat (not sure of name) also had a 'double hook-up' at same location. Unconfimed report of a 50kg plus fin' boated at Browns. Botany Bay G.F.C. boat 'Marquis' went to the southern canyons.Found a heap of bait,no fin'. Just a feisty Blue Shark about 120kgs,which they released.
  7. Great shots!!!!! Good to see "Pickets Rock" High& low "Muggs Rock" & The "Yakka Hole" all getting a good clean out............ Central Coast "Raiders" should look at some rough weather spots like: the southern end of Forresters Beach Putty Beach at Killcare always a chance of a big Jewfish there in big seas & dirty water. The Haven at Terrigal. Blue Bay in the northern corner, always good for Bream,Pigs& Blackfish in a big blow. Most of the Central Coasts coastel rock pools like Avoca,Norah Head (near the boat ramp) fill up full of good Bream& Blackfish on the top of the tide, combined with a big sea&strong winds. Raiders be prepared to look "outside the square"
  8. Hi Poly We did have a video going but it was focused on the rear of the boat&we think the fish was out of shot. Steve is going through it to-night.Hopefully there will be something............ By the way,the lure of choice was a: Super Apollo in Evil colours.
  9. Hi Raiders Just got back from an extra long weekend in Port Stephens where the boat I fish on Marquis is based for the next month. I have been going there for over 20 years now but mostly alittle later when the Interclub is on. This year will be one that all of us on the boat will never forget............ Fished on Saturday 24th for all zero's,saving a couple of stripe tuna. Water was green in close,19 degrees, not good. Get out to 90 fathoms & we find a massive temp break & it jumps up to 24.3 degrees! with the current rageing from the north at 4 knots....Very hard to fish in. Sunday was a wipe out due to the southerly though some boats did go out. Australia Day: Light wind&alittle misty rain greeted us at Tomeree Head as we pushed out to sea. Hopes up for a good day. Water has improved with 22 degrees in 40 fathoms.Temp slowly climbs up the further we push out. Now 25.6 degrees in 120 fathoms. We get out to around 230 fathoms east of the carpark, Steve on the deck yells out,"right rigger, look at that swirl! It's a big fish". All eyes are now fixed on our lures & I yell out "On the shotgun!" A huge blue/gold shape appears briefly only to drop out of sight. What happens next will be with us for ever...... The Animal jumps on the left rigger.......A Huge Blue Marlin........Comes completely out of the water no less than 30 metres from the transom!! The lure is thrown&she is gone.......... We are all stunned in what we have just witnessed. The boys on the flybridge call it "A Grander". A fish bigger than a thousand pounds may be even 1100 pounds!!! They are good judges having both caught grander Black Marlin in Cairns over many heavy tackle seasons. Later after all the adrenalin& excitement had backed off a touch, our skipper Rob said "its the biggest marlin he has ever seen south of Cairns in over 40 years of gamefishing" All points well for the Interclub........Can't wait to get back out there.
  10. Thats a cracker cuttlefish!! Hope you saved the "candles". They are dynamite Kingfish bait!!!
  11. Hi Raiders Fished the Botany Bay G.F.C point score comp today. Managed to "tagg" the fist marlin for the season for Botany Bay club. A nice Stripe Marlin of approximately 70kgs, took a Pakula Lumo medium sprocket. fished on the long rigger. We found some good bait schools in 80 fathoms due east of the port, and that was where we hooked the fish. Water temp was 21.8. Did travel out to 150 fathoms but water temp out there was only 20.1. As we were only two up,it was pretty chaotic there for awhile, but we managed to keep level heads & just took our time once we had cleared the deck.Great boat driving by skipper Rob did the trick & we were up on the fish within 15 minutes. It was good to see some fish finally turn up. Two other Botany Bay boats also scored fish, another stripe marlin & a shortbilled spearfish. Hopefully fishing will only get better from here. Have a great xmas&new year to everybody on fishraider.
  12. Nice Sambo's!! They make dynamite "Tiger" baits!!!
  13. Overheads will always be "faster" than an eggbeater. You can't go past the Shimano TSM 004 or the new Torium 30. But if you have plenty of sheckles the range of the Shimano Trinadads are top shelf.
  14. Yes we were out on sunday as well for all 0's. Just two stripeys. Was pretty ordinary in the morning though the sea did improve in the afternoon. Water temp varied from 21.7 at Browns Mountain to 23.5 in 60 fathoms east of Botany Bay,with a hard running current from the north. Did hear of a Blue Marlin being lost on the radio due to hook straightening!!!
  15. Always good to fish around a tide change. Most gamefisho's will tell you they get alot of hook ups/ strikes around a tide change. Then combine that with a temp break, sounding bait schools, current lines, working birds or even a single bird!!! And many other "variables" even down to the right music!!!!!
  16. Had a go at the tuna on Sunday. After braveing the "westerly blow" on the way out,we trolled most of the way to Browns Mountain for just a single Stripe Tuna, water temp at 18 degrees. The wind dropped off to about 5kts at about 11am. After a 'committee meeting',we tracked south at approx 250 fathoms looking for a temp break which we found at approx 10 klms south of Browns. Set up a cube trail in 20.2 degree water. One hour into it a couple of Yellowfin are spotted in the trail!!! Excellent....One missed hookup The fish seemed very wary, tried every trick I knew, could'nt get another run!!! We did manage one Albacore about 6kgs.Then the 'late' arriveing southerly hit us around 2pm!!. So with 30 plus knots from the south shutting everything down, we pulled the pin. The tuna are there....hopefully just a matter of time until we hear of some more reports. Hotbite........
  17. Hey Roscoe....great yarn about the Ghosn boys....they will giving you a stir about spelling there name wrong!! I have known all the boys for many years as well & have been lucky enough to have fished with them a few times........there vast knowledge of all types of fishing is truely amazeing. Young Anthony is super keen & a top little fisho, always fishing any time he is around the water. The boys better halves are excellent fishergirls as well!!!!! with Matty's wife having landed many huge Tiger sharks, some in excess of 500kgs!!!! And yes Hook'm.....the Tiger shark featured in Roscoe's post is well over 250kgs......352kgs on 15kg line, caught November 2007,out of Matts boat Razorback.
  18. HI Boutime.... Iv got some results from saturday. Alot of marlin tagged & some weighed...Afew big tiger sharks weighed. Most of the marlin were caught up at Norah Head canyons, with the afternoon being the prime time. Most fish fell for both lures & live bait. BOAT: Head Hunter LMGFC 382kg Tiger Shark on 15kg Baja NPSGFC 389kg Tiger Shark on 15kg Nakia BBGFC 105kg Mako Shark on 15kg Thats just a couple that I can remember. There was also a Black Marlin 103kg on 10kg taken on a 35 Bertram but I cant remember the name. Broken Bay GFC boat Allurha had a great day tagging six Marlin. Alot of boats seen some action, with alot of single and double tagg flags flying. The tournament seems pretty tight. I hope to know who the winners are soon and I will post asap.
