  1. Hi Fishnitup........mate definately a Stripe Marlin, looking at the shape of the pectoral fins & dorsal fin. Also the length of the lower jaw. May be 60kgs, they are nearly always skinny. A great fish. You will now have "Marlin Madness".............The only cure.....get alot more!!!!
  2. Yes mate, run a short length of wire on your minnow lures, about 2 feet should be enough. Use a "Haywire twist" on both ends, attach to a good swivel&snap like a "Sampo". Not a big fan of wire on my Marlin lures, but I do know of some fishos who do.
  3. Hi Bartdude.....Great time of year to be going to SWR. The nor'easters can be annoying. Best advice for the bar..."When in doubt.....Don't"..... Go down the breakwater on both tides & watch it for sometime. Hopefully you will see some other boats coming in & out & you will see which is the best way to go across. Going out on a run up tide is usually best. A run out tide and a strong Nor'easter can be very "sporting". Watch the local charter boats they have the best knowledge. When you decide to go out, sit back inside the breakwall in the deep water & watch again for awhile. When you decide to go....."GO"!!!!!! Don't try to turn around halfway across the bar.....Also everyone on board must be wearing a lifejacket or PFD. It is the law in NSW for any bar crossing. Most fishos run single strand wire, 40 to 60lb is generally enough. A "stinger hook" in the tail of your live bait is good bet. Usually a small treble hook will do the trick. Both bibless & bibbed minnows work well as you can cover alot more ground. When you get a bight throw over a livie & you may pick up one of his mates. Small to medium size lures work well...the humble Xmas Tree & Red Feather jig work well. The FAD is always a good place to check out. You can find its postion on this site. Look forward to your reports Tight Lines & Calm Seas... Hotbite
  4. Looks like a "Spiney Boxfish".....you find hundreds of them in the stomachs of Dolphinfish & Marlin
  5. Mate the water is warm as a bath!!! Up to 26 degrees!!! Right in close....All the usual haunts should be good....Grassy Head, off the Gaol...Fish Rock.... Plenty of bait around.......goodluck, let us all know how you go.
  6. Maybe a "Silver Biddie"????......
  7. Don't you Raiders know what BOAT stands for........... Bring..... On....... Another....... Thousand.......... Here endith the lesson.......
  8. Good luck on your trip out Farvos. Their is usually plenty of bait out the front of Port. Try the "Crack in the wall" other wise Known as Mrs Murphys, at the southern headland, Tomeree Head. Also up on the north west corner of Cabbage Tree Island is a good spot. Try to get there early as possible & use plenty of burley....... Plenty of fish traps to try around up there as well as the FAD......
  9. Good day out mate.....the odd Flathead is a "Marble Flathead" Really good on the chew, one of the best!!!
  10. Yes can confirm multiple boats got Choona today. Botany Bay GFC boat "Spindrift" just weighed a Yellowfin at 41kgs. Also Sydney GFC boat "Smartbill"had a five way hookup on Bluefin getting 3.....Happy Days are here again!!!!
  11. Good reports coming in of both Yellowfin & Bluefin taken wide of Browns & over the southern canyons. Also alot of Albacore. Fifty plus kilo "fin weighed at Botany Bay GFC
  12. Mate this may seem odd.....go down to the local footy field with some different weight snapper leads & cast away!!!! Set a target, like a bucket or a fish tub at 50, 80, 100 metres. Just practice....thats all it is......like a good golf swing!!!!! Which I don't have.....ha ha !!!!
  13. Hi daviesa,....mate I use an old Daiwa 250h when spinning for Jews off the bricks which is only 4: 1. The new Shimano Torium reels are excellent, which are great value.
  14. Two house bricks put together with cable ties, then attached with a "break away' dropper below your hooks.
  15. Yes Karen the Sydney GFC President has many records of her own. Alex has a world record Blue Marlin she got in Kona, Hawaii two years ago. She also has pending NSW/Australian Blue Marlin record she captured up at the Interclub at Port Stephens this year.
  16. This lady on board Sydney GFC boat "Tantrum" is a multiple Australian and World Record holder for Blue Marlin & a brilliant fisherperson.. They are a crack crew & really know how to get it done. They only use quality Australian made lures. They have alot of tournament wins to their credit. We fished the same comp for zeros. We did hear on the scheds of one boat tagging three Stripe Marlin for the day wide of the Bait Station.
  17. Great couple of sessions mate........you three Watsons Leaping Bonito there & one Pacific Bonito. All great fish!!
  18. Mate, don't bother......currents rageing up to 5 knots!!!!! Stay in around the 40 to 60 fathoms & get into some of these little black marlin &dollys!!!
  19. Excellent Jewie bait.........absolutely lethal, especially in the estuary.

  21. Yep.....I stand corrected.....sorry to all.......gamefishing grapevine got me again......... If you want to see how hard the "Tantrum" crew go on a fish.... Check out Youtube....... "Port Hacking 100 Cockpit Chaos"
  22. Great fish on 15kg!!!! Was caught on the troll, just inside Heatons Hill right on dusk. Fight time was 15 minutes!!!!!!! Knowing how hard this crew fish I am not surprised!!!....... Lure was a "Tantrum" Tuna Bullet.
  23. Plenty of good Bluefin caught today. Most out around the 800 to 900 fathom mark. Listening to the radio chat around 1pm, alot of boats were having multipule bites!!!! Did hear Botany Bay GFC boat "Marquis" having a triple hookup, getting all of them......... Some of the reports were of fish well over 100kgs!!!!!
  24. Well done....."Kingy Kandy"
