  2. Always a good day on the water at SWR....... The fish in your pix is a Wahoo not a Spanish Mackeral.....great fish. Shows just how close the warm water pushes in at SWR!!!!
  3. Well done lads!!!! Always the best thrill getting your first "Stick Face"...... You have the Marlin itch now.....& you will have it for life!!!! Having been lucky enough to be involved in many Marlin Tags/Captures over thr last 28 years of gamefishing. I would take a good guess looking at your pixs that your fish would be a "good" 100kgs........Great fish!!!!
  4. Thats all right mate, there should be plenty at Port. We should get your young bloke signed up & put him on a stickface!!!! Father & son double hookup!!!! That would be awesome!!!!
  5. Well done mate....remember what I told you about "Bonnies". They make great skip baits!!!!!
  6. Yep very quiet. We did all the usual haunts....Browns, Bait station, Shelf line.....etc,etc,etc....... Saw alot of fish life which gave us hope...Dolphins,Sunfish, small Hammerhead Sharks,Pilot Whales, lots of bait in different areas....... One of the SGFC boats went all the way to Heatons Hill......for zeros!!!!! Still a great day on the water with lots banter on the deck & hopes for the next day out there

Good to have some new chums out for there first day on the ocean....Lots of friendly banter from everyone...Raf was top rod for the day,got a nickname from skipper Denis...B.P the quiet achevier!!!! Was very funny "educateting" the lads with some of our names of fishes...."Sabre toothed Whiteing"...Pike, "Flower Pots"....Red Rockcod....."Scoffalls"...Mados......"Ma bakers"....Sargeant Bakers....."Fish Fingers"....3 inch Flathead!!!, "Quakers Hill Bream"....Sweep, "Elvis Presley Fish"....Leatherjackets....."Billy Goats"...Nannigai..just to name a few..... Trying to tell, I think your nephew, that a "mouth hooked" Sweep was an "illegal" capture as it was not hooked through the eyeball....too funny.... We are all looking forward to having you all out again.....
  8. Well done lads.....love those sickles!!!
  9. Always good to have you out for a fish mate....the banter & the "Gee Ups" on the deck are always a great laugh!!! The fishing was abit slow at first but we made up for it!!! Looking forward to our next trip out
  10. The best thing you can do is go fishing with a guide for a day or two. Watch carefully what they do because they will know what fish to target at that time of year. Most of the Territory is very dependent on tides & moon phases. Check out the local tackle shops, buy abit of gear & pick there brains as to whats on the bite. The Barra will be there but sometimes they can be very frustrateing to catch, more so if the water temp drops. There will be plenty of 'Jacks,Queenfish, Fingermark & Trevelly of every varieity!!!! Even the Catfish pull like trains.....!!!! You will all have the best time & it wont be your last trip to the "Big North'!!!!
  11. It was caught by a Sydney G.F.C boat "Finsanity". Great fish that went 66.5kg. Was lucky enough to score a piece & had a sashimi lunch while we were out there Sunday.....Bloody beautiful!!!!! Beats Yellowfin or Bluefin!!!
  12. Heard from Boattart & that they dropped a good Blue Marlin after 40 minutes on 130lb tackle on Wednesday. I beleave they were down on the southern canyons.
  13. Thanks for the report mate. Some boats went wide, over 300 fathoms for zeros. Seems that in-shore is the go. Find the bait, find the fish....... As the top skippers say "never leave the bait...." work the bait, stay with it & the bite will come.......
  14. Great fish mate, well done!!! I'm with Damo....get some smoked!! Hot or cold...Both are cracker on the chew!!
  15. Spoke to a mate today who deckies on a charter boat & he tells me that they bagged out on Gemfish to 8kg. Got a couple of Perch & an Alfonsino......did say it was abit slow. About 1 knot of current, 17 degree water temp. No sharks,no seals.....happy days
  16. Great to finally get you out Fisholb We had talked it up for awhile. No Snapper but as you say we got some cracker Flathead & some Jackets & a few Mowies. You are welcome anytime mate & hopefully we will break your Marlin duck this summer
  17. I love the smell of Pilchards in the morning........smells like.... VICTORY!!!!

    Bream?

Nice fish mate. Its a genuine "Black Bream"...Usually found alot further south. Caught alot of them in Mallacoota (Vic). Also in Pambula & Merimbula. As you say, very nice on the plate.
  19. Hey Boattart...Nice Redmens there.....love it when a plan comes together Hope "Uncle Marquis" got a couple
  20. All caught off the stones....before the big blow & sea's at the end of the week....
  21. The smaller "local" fishers don't go close to there quota. They manage the fishery themselves. Why would they go out & catch there total quota, flood the market & then maybe get 20 cents a kilo????? . Not viable for anyone. Haveing worked in the "bait" industrie for 11 years for one of the largest pilchard suppliers in W.A. I can assure all fishraiders that the entire pilchard quota for W.A & S.A would not even supply the tuna farms in S.A for a year. That is why the tuna farms import 80% of there pilchards....They also feed the tuna a type of pellet meal....... This is where this "super ocean rapeist" fishing vessel comes into its own. Most of its catch will be used in fish farms!! Don't let the spin doctors tell you their catch will feed the staveing masses of some third world country!!!!
  22. Well done ReefMagic crew Your outstanding strike rate contines. Rob on "Marquis" said they lost a good Bluefin 120kgs plus at the side of the boat after a gaff issue Lets hope the bite continues....
  23. Top effort guys. Some nice fish there. Noticed that there are some Watsons Leaping Bonito as well.
  24. Great fish lads. Will go down in "Fishing Off Sydney" folklore. Well done to skipper Rob & fishraider "Boattart". Here's a pic of the 145.5kg fish.
