  1. Without a cattle prod or a good sized "Ule-be"... I would probably be runnin as well!!!
  2. There is a bit of wording there isn't there.. so maybe i missed the "Commonsence clause" If there is one, then I will remove my previous remarks. Would still like to see a greenie face a limosin bull with attidude though!!!
  3. i cut a peice of polysturene and slot it into the tank so it seperates it in half... put a few holes in it and this seems to work ok..
  4. I only read it breifly.. but was thinking specifically of the things that I do as a hobby... 1) Live baiting: Couple of rules here I could be breaking all at the same time.. i.e am i being cruel to an animal by inflecting a wound.. or am I using a live animal to bait another? 2) Piggin with Dogs: Well that a 20 Million + industry (in QLD Alone) that just got a lot harder.. but maybe the Govt will let me buy my guns back from the last buy back? (Just dont miss, as you are then willfully wounding an animal) 3) Working with Cattle: Gotta throw away the cattle prods and get into the crush these days.. as you arn't allowded to use electrical devises on an animal anymore ( would like to see a greenie in a crush with a 500kg+ limosin bull that has an attidude) Dont get me wrong.. I am totally against cruelty to animals.. and if I see an animal in distress then I will do anything to fix the problem.. but some of these rules.. if adheared to by the "letter" would even stop you spraying cockroaches (Baiting without a permit!!).. and my final bitch.. Muelsing Sheep, true.. not the prettiest of pictures....but have you ever seen one flyblown?
  5. You should get nominated for one of those "Nobel" prises for you efforts.. or at least get some sort of Govt funding!!! Dont forget to take an extra Diving knife.. I heard the hairtail are particullary thick down there this time of year!!!
  6. Bugger that.. if you are going to ask them something...how about you ask them.. "Take me to your leader and please provide the GPS marks!!!!"
  7. Ive heard that this method is expecally good at catching crabs!!!
  8. Ok.. here is my ramble.. (Apologies the bar opened a little early at work today....something with me having the key i guess) When you’re a few km’s out.. or on a river, lake, puddle etc etc.. there is no better feeling when the sun is just rising or sinking. The anticipation is hard to describe… (Hunting is like this as well) To me its not about catching fish.. thou a little do help. It about getting out there... and having a bit of an adventure. Good mates, “beers at dawn” and the shared feeling of pain, weather it be from the cold, bluebottles on the anchor rope or freezer burn from an ice cold esky, just all add to the experience and help to spice up tales told around more beers. The planning, the prep, the trying out a new spot all add to the adventure of the “whats out there”. If we all went out and caught big fish everyday, then I think we would get bored. It’s the feeling of finding that ‘Spot”, or getting that “hit” or even seeing the water a particular colour…little things like that… That’s what life is all about I have mates who don’t understand me waking up at weird hours to go out there. The idea to go out chasin fish is beyond them When asked why I do it, I mutter something about the one that got away and “That I am here for a good time.. not a long time!!” Truth be told, I can’t say why I do it.. I just do, I guess thats fishin....
  9. Would it help the debate and tension.. if I offered to take out any wemon on my boat for a fish??? Please send photo, maritial status (Need to be single so I dont cut any fishraiders grass) and current bank balance with application... (Mentioning that one has shares in a pub would also be considered favourabily in the interview process) Just doing my bit!!! Have a good weekend!!
  10. Mate I have a feeling that this weekend is going to go nuts on the kingies... true.. I have nothing to base this on... but it Friday.. they are making me work.. so dont rain on my parade people!!! Try those marks I gave you, if that don't work.. then sit on the southern side of barrenjoey and live bait and you should get into one.. I think tomorrow is the better day, sounds like the southerly will muck thing up a bit.. but I dont think it will hit till the afternoon. Good luck and let us know how you go.
  11. Not picking any sides here... I thought it was 20 in total, so I had a look at the fisheries site and that threw me a little... http://www.fisheries.nsw.gov.au/recreation...er/bag_and_size its a bit confusing on the site as it says on the top of the page "There are five bag limit categories - zero, two, five, 10 or 20 fish per angler" then it says in relation to flatties further down the page... 20 in total. So does this mean 20 in total per fisherman.. or twenty in total for the boat? (Anyone else a bit thrown by this.. or am i just dumber than normal today) Either way.. I dont think i have to worry about catching 20 flatties in a hurry as my Freezer aint that big and I can eat that many. But flattie tails, lemon pepper seasoning and a ice cold beer.... Life just doesn't get any better does it!!!!
  12. I usually find if the livies are skittish at West head, then there is a kingie nearby... and he usually hits the handline with the bait jig. When i dont catch them there, i move around 50-60 metres along the coast and try again. its surprising but just a little move like that can make all the difference,.

    Engine Size

That would have been a bad souding crunch!!! I would have been going about the same speed, hit it in the river near midnight (fishing for those mythical hartail) The boat reared up (Geez she jumped) and it seemed a long time till I hit the water again. last place I wanted to be was in the drink... in winter.... with a bay FULL of hairtail (NOT!!!) Split went for around 8 inches.. right along the weld line so it wasn't too bad to fix... lucky i had the brown undi's on that night!!! From then on, i would run the engine without the trim in the lock position (Not sure if this is a safe thing to do or not)... I have now bought a bigger boat and have hit a log in it and the power trim seems to "Kick up" alright without getting any damage.

    Sorry...couldn't help myself...

    Engine Size

Split hull = When the hull....splits.... I split the hull hitting a log at night, so it had nothing to do with the engine size.. more the size of the log. this is something that I would not recommend doing.... 40 on a tinny is quick, the weight of the boat is one thing you have to consider if skiing.. as you might have to have a few people up front to get it popping up quickly. We used to tow a surfboard behind ours pretty easily, but I never tried ski's sorry. good luck.
  16. Two would have been just legal.. one was a bit bigger and looked to be another 20cm's and a lot fatter than the others. Mind you.. my estimates get a bit "Shakey" when I see a free swimming fish right next to the boat headbutting a livie!!! I thnk its called "Kingfish fevor",... "The Skakes" are often followded by some swearing 9Delerious) and a general feeling of disbelief/bewilderment and confusion when you find that you have just been hammered. in brisbane, its called Samson feavor.. but the symptoms are a lot stronger...

Go BIG!!! I had this same problem... in the end i looked at the make/model of the boat and figured out the max HP for this tinny was a 40Hp I "umed and ahhed" about getting a 30hp or a 40hp for around a week (I think it was about a grand difference in price at the time) In the end, I rung a mate for advise..and he said..and I quote.. "What would the tool man do??" (From that home improvement show) So I went the 40, only split the hull once.. but she was a lot of fun!!! I figure if you go light, then you always say...."I shoulda got the bigger, better engine"... Best to cut any doubt out and go the max the boat can safely take!!! Remember... Bones heal, Chicks dig scar's but "Glory" is forever... See you in the Newspapers!!!! Ok.. I better write something serious..before someone yells at me. Check the model./make of the boat.. they all have engine capacities listed... if not available, look at one the same size and make ( Alluminium/glass etc etc) and work it out from there...it should be around the same capacity Good luck!!
  18. Gotta catch the kingie first Clutch!!!!
  19. there are heaps of garies at west head at the moment.. I have never tried them, but someone told me that you roll a bottle over them to break the backbone, fry them up and they taste good. (not sure if you gut them or not) Might go out and have a session one day and give them a go... next time, I will only catch Garies for livies, as the kingies seem not to hesitate on them!!!
  20. Went out for an afternoon evening run chasing snapper off long reef. Picked up some yakka's at west head and a couple of garies and went down to some shallow reefs of narrabeen. got hammered by a heap of small squire, and then started getting into the flathead. One flattie was pulled up and three kingies come up to say hello with him.. sent down a yakka and he got nailed. didn't hook up so I sent down another yakka and nothing happens. Keep picking up decent flathead and then I change the yakka to a garfish.. As he is sitting on the surface and I am putting the reel in freespool, a kingie comes up to say hello... The Garie lasted all of 5 seconds and was nailed.. after a few muntes of fighting, it was kingies 2.. us nothing!! As soon as the sun went down, the sounder went nuts with good quality fish hugging the bottom, but nothing happened. the bite just stopped.... Pulled the pick and went home with 9 flatties, a medium mowie and a couple of trev's It was hard fishing, but a great day to be out on the water. Only 6 more days till i do it again.
  21. We used to eat them a long time ago.. cut them into strips and bash the crap out of them with a meat tenderising hammer. then bash them some more.. and then some more... If the stips are thin, then it tastes like calamari.. but if its thick, then its a bit tough/rubbery..
  22. goin fishin on Saturday.. Chasing snapper outside and trying my "New magic Spot" again True..it hasnt produced a good fish yet, but it looks GOLD on the sounder!!!

    Newbie

I dont know if your north or not... but I used to do alright off the southern set of rocks on Whale Beach.. There are two sets of rocks... one set you can walk from the beach to.. the other you need to go down a rope. I used to walk from the beach and spin metal lures for Salmon, bonito and kings. When your on the platform, their is a large gutter.... if its calm, then sitting on the point on the right hand side (when facing towards the coast) used to produce the goods for us. The kings used to hit me right under the ledge on minnows.. but watch the waves.. We used to fish the higher ledges on seas only if it were under 2 metres.. anything above that and you will probably make the newspapers... I got hit bad there and also had to fish out 4 blokes on assorted trips.. its probably the reason i got a boat in the end Any shiny metal luire of around 4-6 inches will do.. Instructions for use: Cast Let sink for 5-8 seconds winds like a bugger and repeat...(but this time wind faster) There used to be a bloke out there who always spin a metal popper type lure.. he did alright right on dawn, but mailny got salmon and bonito. Live bait works well there, but can be a pain to get ( we uesed to catch yakkas at barrenjoey and walk them in with those big white paint buckets).. bit of a pain in the neck thou. good luck P.s Myh info is around 5 years old... so it might be fished out now!!
  24. Clutch: I dont know what the "Cat's Meow" is excatly.. but i think its good... Sounds like you bought the software already... The drop off at Flint and Steel is a prettty well known reef over here.. when its good it great.. when it bad....well its "not the Cats Meow!!!" Captain Pugwash: PM me if you want me to bring my GPS into the city tomorrow as I have a quiet day and wont be doing any work... I will have to take an IOU on the beer though as I have to get hom earlyish and get the boat ready!!! All: I will see if I can post up some pics over the weekend of the types of images I get... this probably show the best detail of whhat I am trying to describe... Not 100% sure though if I can do this as my home computer just caught the "Clap" and i have to get the anitvirus up to speed!!!
