  1. I am hoping that it will bring on the jewfish, in the coff's region this Friday!!! (Insert Jewfish prayers here!) P.s Mondo: I finally figured out this beach worm catchin thing, am no way an "expert", but am starting to get my rythum...Thanks again for offering to show me.
  2. if this post offends, then please remove it.. I am just having a "vent" I dont understand how a few pro's can hold the pollies by the short and curlies...yet several several thousand of rec fisherpeople seem to be ignored everyday. Whilst groups such as the fishing party, ecofishing etc etc seem all good in theory, I (as "joe public") have never seen them REALLY ruffle a few feathers. It seems that the charter boat guys (i.e that Pete Le Blang bloke...Sorry mate if I spelt your name wrong) seems to do more feather ruffling than all these groups seem to do together.. We all talk about action, and seem to have been talking now for 10 years? But really..what have we done?? ( I conceed we have done some good things, but really...are we only scratching the surace?) A few pro's can huff and puff, sue the govt for damaged lifestyle etc etc, yet we...the majority...sit back, have a grumble and watch the tide go in and out. I dunno know what the answer is, but we need some cordination on getting all groups together before its our kids that are on this forum grumbling about the same issues. Currently we seem to be following protocol (dont get me wrong I am not implying that we break the law) and our efforts seem to be diluted and "lack lusture" at best. Perhap's we shold start takling more of an active part. I am presuming that their are guys high up in these groups reading my rambling... Why dont you pick up the phone and start talking to each other? get ONE spokeperson and work together for ONE goal in stead of going in different directions like a school of pillies with a hairtail going through it (Sorry had to throw at least one fishing analagy in it) If you want to brainstorm, then lets brainstorm on "Active" things as we have proven... writing a letter does nothing!! here's my first idea to throw into the "think tank": We have several thousand boats going out on sydney waterways every weekend..this just seems to be too good a resourse to waste... Maybe the first plan of attack is to organise more "on-water" protests. e.g If I knew that there was a protest drive up and down Pitwater, or broken bay etc etc at 2:00pm on every first sunday, then I would be in it every month!!! Cummon fella's (and girls).. I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, but lets get some "action" ideas out there and see if something really cool comes up before we all have to take up knitting cause there is no fish(not that there is anything wrong with knitting...from what i hear) Here endith my rant... Have a good weekend all!!
  3. for pittwater, yakka's in front of the pill boxes at west head.. you will probably see boats there
  4. Mate If its ok to come for a look see then that would be great.. i will repay the favor in kind by taking you out for a fish on my boat when i get her fixed up (nothing serious wrong with her..just a time consuming job!!!) It would be good to be pulling out worms and showing off when I have my "appointment" with "the Guru"!!! I'll PM you my details, let me know next time you go out and can handle someone tagging along. Cheers!!
  5. Hang on.... if he is coach then i must be.,.. "Choice bro!!!" The last pic of the killer whale is awesome.. imagine one standing up on its tail like that looking down at ya!!! (I have never seen one in the wild, but apparently there were reports of a small group off sydney a few years ago)
  6. any tips for a newbee to worming?? I was up near your way Mick the other day and saw a bloke pulling one up every 30 seconds and he made it look too easy!!!! I have an "Appointment" with apparently "a guru" in the next few weeks to try and teach me.. but must confess my previous efforts have all been woeful? is there anything that you look for on a beach that shows worms are around ( like bumps that Pippi's sometimes show). or is it just a case of walking along the beach and looking for them to surface to the bait bag? Cheers

    Dioxin Jew

dioxins might not hurt ya.. but what about the mother in law!!!! I wouldn't let her know you caught it in the harbour, otherwise she might think you are trying to poison her!!!
  8. i freighted a 6 metre centre console (7 metre on the trailer) from Brizzy to Sydney for around $700-$800. I'll Pm you the details a little later of the mob that I used if I can find them for you. ( I figured that in my car, petrol alone would be 600ish ( She guzzles when towing) so in the end it was alright and a better option than towing
  9. MIight be out that way as well.. but not 100% sure yet as I like to make the decision on the Friday before hand. Will probably start my drifts out near esmarelda.. then head towards terrigal for an explore.
  10. I agree, but I would remove the words "threaten them to" so it read's .....give them a good old flogging and take uder the bridge and throw them over board with some heavey weight lifting weights tied to them. Sure, we will loose a few people along the way, but I bet after doing this for 6 months, the ramp will be so safe that you will come back to find not only your gear intact.. but someone has cleaned and polished your car as well!!! I recently caught a bloke steeling a handbag from one of the girls in the office, when I caught up to him he pulled a syringe out and started using it like a knife.. long story short.. he "Fell over" a few times before the police came around to collect him.. He was charged with 8 seperate crimes.. (from steeling, to resisting arrent to using using a weapon).. I then became the bad guy and spent a day in court. I had to barginthat i would drop all but three of the charges in return that he didn't charge me with...well like i said to the cute officer.. "he fell a few times" (I didnt go overboard, just caused a few bruses... nothing broken) In conclusion The river and a few bricks are a good idea.. Not only does it leave the courts open for more important things, but it also provides a better fishery for us by feeding a few fish. Thanks for listening to my rant and rave!!!
  11. have you got a crazy mate with a surfboard???? Cause I hear that Stockton has a good population of sharks!!! (Dunno if the ban is lifted or not..didn't it expire on the 31/12??) I wouldn't recommend doing it without a mate who owns a surfboard thou!!!
  12. Shheeeeeeettttt!!!!! I cant see any snapper.. I just see cutlets, Seasoned Flour, lemon etc etc!!!!! (maybe I am getting a bit ahead of myself!!!) fantastic pics!!! have just resolved to get to NZ this year now!!!
  13. I do and have head mixed success 3 trips in total 1st = Lost fish (didn't have trace, but he was big and the head shakes indicated he was a sizable jew) 2nd = 20Lb Fish caught (trace works!!!) 3rd = Lucked out (was a dropping tide and there was a lot of weed) I used big storm shads and dragged them back in really slowly over the sand... both hits were near the end of the retrieve...right in the white water... both hits around 9:30pm. Still need to do further testing thou, and I have only just started on this plastics at night thing.. Good luck
  14. Congradulations!!! I'm no expert on it either.. but have found that my hook up rate has increased significantly sonce i started stopping in my retreive. For flatties I will let it stop dead about 2-3 times in a retreive. Most of my hits happen on the stop for bream, I like to let the plasitc float around for a while.. in current... giving it just a little twitch everynow and then Again, I am not sure if this is right or wrong.. But like you, I nearly gave the soft plastic game away till i left a rod in a rod holder one day and noticed it get hit over and over again..
  15. I'm heading out of Joey for a look to see if the ol boat will start (its been since X-mas till I took her out) Dolphin fish, Kings and maybe a little troll for a beakie if the water looks good. Good luck all!!
  16. Those rays can pull cant they!!! good to get a few snapper in for a feed, they are nice whole at that size (I am tending to cutlet my bigger ones now..) Good work!!

    Anchors

I would be inclined to add more chain.. but some think that the chain scares the fish.. I used to move a bit, added 4 metres of chain and now i dont budge...( I use a reef pick in nearly all my situations (Over size, but make sure the boat can stil pull the hooks straight!!!.) The chain is a pain to pull up, but it seems to have solved my problems with anchoring.
  18. Sweeeeet.... I normally get them up there in good quantities in Nov/Dec.. but haven't done so well there the last two months. and as you found out, when you get one, cast back to the same place or look for the followers.. We keep another rod always handy and any deckies will cast it out behind the squid that we are bringing in and normally get the hit I find the little pink yo-zourie's, brought in really slow (and allowded to drop every now and then) are gold.. but there's always the dilema... Bait or dinner???!!!! Good work!!
  19. Cheers Thanks for that Mick, Agreed that bait is the way to go, I just like chucken the plastics around for some reason ( I dunno why either!!!). If you see next week a bloke walking up and down doing laps of the beach with a green backpack and a headtorch then say gidday... most probably will be me. Cheers
  20. Hey Mick Quick question, the beaches up there are they mainly surf beaches or is the shore break pretty close in.. Your reports have tempted me to go up there next week, but I tend to spin softplastics off the shore rather than get into the bait fishing thing and prefer a quieter beach to do this off Cheers Coach
  21. yeah, its a thought....and I do now have a reel loaded with it, but I gotta admit, I like fishin the lighter gear and am not a big fan of casting braid in the surf at night. (Too many tangles!!!) I will pack the heavy reel when I'm up your way next, it seems like you guys have a good jewie population...Might go up and make a weekend of it in a few weeks!!!
  22. thats about the same size as my Jew that I caught of coffs during my holdays.. (I just updated my last report with the details) Only difference is that i dont like to advertize anything on my shirt (Cummon...someone had to say something about it!!!!) Oh and nice fish by the way!! a filet, in some oil, foil, lemon and pepper seasoning, a little salt and parsley about 180 Degrees for 23 minutes should see it right!!!! (Its what I have been eating all week!!!!, bloodyyy Bweatiful!!!
  23. Update to the story.... (Apologies for the length, i have had company sponsored drinkies today) I went back around 4 weeks later, this time with slightly heavier line, trace and a head torch... (made a mental note to remove wallet, phone and anything else that didnt like getting wet) Same place, near same tide and three hours later i looked at my watch...9:30, about the same time as the last one hit.. sent out a cast with a "well, its now or never" prayer and slowly retreived it in.. nothing.. sent another cast... nothing and another and another Oh.. and another... Started to wonder why I spend so much time on a beach... debated the meaning of life, the complexities of wemon, the life cycle of a star.. the beauty of burbon etc etc...then.. and you guessed it.. Bump.. Again he hits, 5 minutes after the exact time of the last hit four weeks earlier.. He does the same run up the beach with me following behind. whilst doing the whole "hide in the gutter" thing.. Judging by the head shakes he was smaller than the last one, but still had a lot of power.. after 5 minutes, i rembered that i had heavy line and a trace so i upped the drag a little more. soon after, I was running into the surf looseing the drag as he took a run that I didn;t think he had in him. Ten minutes of "Gently Gently" later and he was in sight Two more minutes of prayer and "come to pappa" (Said repetivatily) and he was on the sand, as I ran to grab him, a wave hit me..tangling the line around my watch band.. \ I saw the Jewie flash before my eyes, fearing a line snap.. i took no chances and jumped on him. With Sand in every orrifice, and being soaking wet i dragged my first beach jewie and my first Jewie on Plastics out of the surf...all 18Lb of him.. I think I discovered the answer to the "meaning of life" question!!! Apologies for all in the coffs area who were disturbed on the night of the 27th by a lone fisherman howling at the moon and doing what could only be best described as "the chicken Dance". Just to add to this ...just another quick story, I picked up another, same size a few nights later, but this time on bait on a new rig.. Now bait is great..but i think spinning on softplastics is just that little better I think!!! I gotta move up north!!!! Thanks all for the tips, they were gold!!! particullary on the trace as I dont normally spin with it and I never realised how sharp their gills were until i tried to pick him up by them!!!
  24. 35 knots with the engine not running sounds like good fuel economy to me!!! I'd give navman a call, sounds like your sensor is gone "ding" Most of my sounders have lost temp and speed over time (navman, JRC, Koden)...dunno know what it is, but they always seem to run out of huff for me (I use the gps for speed and my big toe for Temp now)
  25. make sure you bolt the parts to the aluminium properly. I.e There is a paste you need to buy apparently..(cant remember what it is, but any boat shop will tell you) that you use use to cover your bolts so the steel from the bolts, doesn't react to the aluminium and start rusting!! IN terms of mounting it to the seat, i just used four normal self tapping bolts and they held it fine, i guess if you want to do it really well then you could put in a butterfly bolt, but this was too much hassle for me. make sure you pick up all the metal shavings after drilling, as they can help corrosion to start ( i was told that lead sinkers and metal shavings were some of the biggest culprets)
