I know how you feel - we organised a snapper fishing trip (in Adelaide) last year for a mates bucks... 8 of us flew down for the extended weekend with 2x charters booked, got to the wharf at 6am each time only to be called off due to weather!!
Didn't get to wet a line all weekend!
2-4kg Trions are great value (around $100ish) - I've got one with a Ci4 and its fine throwing 1/4 jigs to chase bream & flatties. (I don't use 1/2oz jigs on this but I would say they would be right a the limit of this rod).
Samaki also make nice plastics rods (around $150), I've got the 'Zing' model and although its rated same 2-4kg its much stiffer than the Trion.
We were out last Saturday morning in Pittwater.... We had 2boats, tried everything including baits, plastics, vibes, even caught & used live squid and still got pretty much nothing worth mentioning.
Did you get the GoPro 4?
I've got the 3+ and a 16Gb & 32Gb Sandisk Extreme cards.... they work fine, I think they were maybe $40-$70ea?? Don't quote me but I think they need to be minimum Class 10?
More importantly, you should look at getting a spare battery or two - as GoPros tend to drain batteries pretty quick filming HD Video....
I've used a product called JB Weld.... (google it for specs & reviews)
It's a 2part epoxy, dries rock hard & can be sanded & painted over... It's pretty good stuff.
Research 4.2m(ish) open tinnies, with V shape hull - i.e. quintrex dory, stacer seahorse/nomads and equivalent allycraft, brooker models... that's a good start..
I'd also recommend 30hp(+) for the above...
Update on this... We stayed up there Fri-Sunday last weekend.
Fishing was "ok" as we caught fair few flatties between us, most around 40cm.... couple 50cm ones and released a nice 66cm girl....
As others have said, the water is clear up to the bridge area... any further up gets dirty real quick.....
We're heading up there this arvo (for the weekend).... Hope the water has cleared up a bit....
Have you noticed if the fishing has improved since the dredging is completed??..... We were up there last November and the entrance & main channel had silted up heaps.... the fishing was much tougher than last couple years...
Hi.
Does anyone have (or heard) any recent reports from The Entrance / Tuggerah Lakes??
Has the dredging finished?
We're heading up next weekend and hopefully the flatties come out to play....
Cheers,
Alex.
x2 - i use a tarp to cover boat overnight (just for peace of mind) - keep those opportunistic thieves away who will steal anthing left inside.... also use a trailer lock.
Great work on the squid mate!
BTW - What kind of boat & car have you got? ... i've considered launching at Palm Beach but concerned about the shallow water & sand ramp (i've got a 4.2m tinny & Subaru Forester);
I had a few motorbikes when i first started dating the missus and got hassled that i didnt use them enough so i eventually sold them... I allways wanted a boat, so made sure i bought one BEFORE i got engaged as well (cos i knew how much effort it would have been to get one after!).... Been engaged for 2yrs now and want to upgrade the boat.... still trying to convince her.............. may take a while....
