    Anchors

I believe the correct abbreviation is SARCA. Stands for Sand and Rock Combination Anchor. So "Yes" to answer your question
  2. Heard they're good for kingies. For breams I'd recommend the sandworms
  3. footage of ned's beach in LHI http://youtube.com/watch?v=NgXP-zC0WoA
  4. Sounds good to me ! Tackle upgrade will set me back at least another $1000
  5. Hey mate, I'm interested in going to LHI. Spoke to someone who's been there 4 times and he said it's unbelievable fishing even from the shore although it's quite expensive. He said that everything there is monopolized, food.accommodation and the charters are expensive. There's a lot of shore based option though according to him. He suggested that NZ Bay of Plenty is a cheaper option. Nevertheless I'm keen to go and tackle down those hoodlums.
  6. Should be there tomm, weather permitting. Didn't go this morning as it was drizzling when I woke up.
  7. Might go there tomorrow and friday if it doesn't rain. Might see you there.
  8. My rig for clifton is. 4lb fireline, tied to 10lbs fluorocarbon about 2meter long. Tie the fireline to the fluoro using improved albright. Sure you get busted off once in a while when the king decides to swim to the pylons, but you do get more hits than other people using 30lb-50lbs leader. with practice and perseverance you'll bound to land one from there.
  9. I'd suggest to ditch the floats. unweighted baits works best, I use split shots sometimes when it's windy or when there's millions of yakkas holding your bait preventing the bait from going deeper.

    Clifton 7/3

Try doing an improved albright to tie your leaders to the braid. Tied correctly this knot gives you a small profile and very strong joint. Bugger about the fish... the kings there knows how to break your heart when they're near the pylons. Try locking up the drag and pull the fish out if possible, sometimes nothing can stop the it from going there. Here's a site on how to tie an albright. I use the 2nd one(improved albright) http://www.marlinnut.com/knots/albright.shtml

    Bonito

It's good tasting RAW if you like sashimi. Just bring small bottle of soy sauce and a tube of wasabi next time you go out fishing and you can have the freshest sashimi. it's also good filleted and shallow pan fried.
  12. They are more in the harbour. Not sure where they're going to be around this week after all this rain, the water will be murky and full of debris dazzassj6, I don't think it's downrigging, just adding a bit more weight to your lure without impacting the movement of the lure significantly. So that the lure sinks faster to get the fish below the surface Ali, you've spoilt your inlaws mate.. hehe it's good watching them enjoying it though, I'm quite surprised they didn't get seasick.
  13. Just as a disclaimer I'm not familiar with boats that size. Just wants to share my experience with this kind of modification to my outboard I have a 3.8m Glass boat with a 40HP on it, before putting on permatrims the boat struggles to plane and itporpoises a lot. Mainly because the boat is overpowered and there's too much weight sitting on the back being a tiller control. I've then installed a permatrim, which is a one piece aluminum metal on the outboard. I can say that I wish I have done it earlier ! The boat planes so much faster saving fuel in doing so and a lot more comfortable than before. The permatrims may be and most probably is more expensive(+labour fee) than the plastic/foil counterpart, but this thing doesn't flex and it's strong as an OX. I've seen pictures where a dude stands on the permatrim just to prove that point. Have a look at their website below Permatrim Site
  14. I may be wrong but I remember the government doing some testing on fishermen families last year or the year before and they mentioned each tests costs a few hundred $$ I suppose you can ask the GP
  15. Bow mount will be a better option actually, you might need to saw off the bow rails though And for catching breams on plastics , I'm sure the guys in the forum will help you out
  16. Rob, are you going to put an electric motor in the future ? Chasing bream on lures is quite fun if you're into them The leccy's are also good if you're following a school of feeding fish
  17. Thanks for the tip Roberta I'll definitely try that.
  18. Hi All, It's been too long since I posted a report here. Anyway my future and I went to try out the harbour today, launched at rose bay at 5am and we head to clifton for squid not much luck though. We then wandered around middle head looking for a bit of surface action, we were welcomed by a cute SEAL which was resting on one of the channel markers. NO SURFACE ACTION around so we head to the "cakes" for plenty of bream on pilchards, but no kingies which is a bit unusual for this place. We spent 2 hours there and decided to wander around again. About 2 mins from the cakes we saw some fish feeding on the surface !! yoooo hooo. When we got closer to them I realized that most of them were kingies from 50-70cm. I then started to cast out 3" BM after a few casts I managed to hook up a tailor which ended up biting my line ! Another boat around us managed to hookup bonitos and tailors/ The kingies didn't really want to play today, they were following my lure up until 1.5 away from my boat then they would turn away. My guess is they're feeding on something really small.. like a 2cm whitebait. I tried metals but my smallest was 15gr and that didn't work either for the kings. The surface action was around for more than an hour, but hookup rate was really low. After that it started raining and we head back to rose bay to call it a day. All in all it was an interesting day chasing the fish around the harbour, the wind gods were really nice today with only a slight breeze throughout the day. I'll definitely come back to harbour some time soon with smaller metals and hopefully the kings will play this time Cheers
  19. Nice one Rob !! Are you still going to visit clifton ?? hehe
  20. for spinning I use my left hand to wind. It's just so much easier after casting out a lure, you don't have to change the rod over to the other hand. I'm right handed so I cast with my right hand. I used to be a right hand wind man the changeover wasn't that difficult, took probably a couple of 3 hr session to get used to left hand wind.
  21. This seems like a common topic every summer. Here's a link to a previous thread http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/inde...ic=7356&hl= good gear is recommended and make sure you tighten the drags when they're about 5m away from the pylons
  22. hi PF, Contact Tony from fishfinder he sells them for 15.95 he also delivers. You might be able to do a bank transfer ?
