  1. Hi there, They are fishing spots. The colours is a spot off south head. The sticks is a spot in Botany Bay. Hope this helps. Dave
  2. Just the head alone is massive. At least you got your jig back.
  3. Very tasty, wish I had kept one of those fish now..... Gave all the fish away to the guys on the boat. Felt bad they didn't manage to hook up a good fish and they missed out last time too. Oh well next time.
  4. Chinese style, my family like to steam it with ginger and shallots. Then when it's finished steaming, take it out and get rid of the water (as some ends up on the fish. Then heat up some peanut oil (or any other you have, just a couple of table spoons) in a pan, pour it over the fish and add some light soy sauce. My wife is korean so they love their sashimi. I find you need to get rid of the black stomach lining as that has a bitter taste.
  5. Hi all, Went out today with Jonno and a mate from work and his son. Was slow going early. Seas flat as a tack but the wind was all over the place. Tried to go to Long reef, but too windy. So we did a drift outside north head. Couple of wrasse. Saw heaps of birds circling working but nothing on the surface. Tried south head, more wrasse. Still windy, so went inside to Clifton Gardens, zip, over to Balmoral zip. By now the wind had calmed down do we went for a flattie drift, some small ones but no keepers. We decided to head offshore again for a keeper snapper, then Jonno jagged a mowie. I could not be outdone so tossed out my kit again. Bigger mowie. Jon also got a keeper snapper and we got some of those pesky Sargent bakers. It went from an alright day to a much better day in about an hour. Dave Didn't take pic of all the catch but here are the mowies.
  6. Hi James, Shame about those pots being taken. I didn't think a lot of that kind of stuff happened these days. At least you got out and the kids had some fun. Dave.
  7. G'Day Poacher, Sorry, we didn't make it up to Terrigal. Had some issues with my trailer and the alignment of rollers etc. We went out of BB and do any good either. Once I get my trailer issues sorted I'll be sure to get up there. Dave.
  8. Hi Tinnyman, Went out yesterday. Seas were great before the wind came up. Ended up with 2 flatties.... that was all she wrote. Dave.
  9. Thanks for the tip Steve. I'll be sure to have a look around before jumping in and launching the boat. We are planning to head out from there on Sat 16th. This Sat we're going out from BB.
  10. I'm planning to be on the water this Sat as well. The crew will pretty much determine if we're heading out from the Bay or the Harbour. May have to pick up someone from the north..... Do you have a sounder/gps? I suggest coming up around Maroubra some flatties around there. We managed to get a couple of pigfish off the gravel to the southern end of Maroubra.... in about 45m.
  11. Thanks Rob. I'll be sure to let you know how I go.
  12. Hi Raiders, Not sure if I should post it here but Lord Rapala and I are thinking of a trip up to Terigal. I would appreciate any help with fishing spots there as I've never taken my boat up there. I'll be sure to post a report. Thanks in advance. Dave.
  13. Hi Raiders, Have family dinner planned on Xmas day so I have the green light to head out to try and find my Christmas present.... I know seabreeze doesn't look too flash. Anyone else heading out. I'll probably just do a half day.
  14. New ramp is open. Looks more like 3 lanes? Two on one side and one on the other. Not sure how they count 4 lanes. Fish cleaning hut? Fish cleaning table inside the hut.
  15. It's a mother in law fish. It's the fish you give to your mother in law.
  16. Certainly nice to bring something for the table. We fished baits. Hard to throw lures around with 5 on board. Hopefully able to get out again soon. Dave.
  17. G'Day raiders, We got out there today. Around the heads were a little sloppy but persisted. Was a little calmer as we headed north. At North Head, we found some birds working and as I tied on the 10gm lure, about 5 boats also saw them. A couple of casts and nothing and with the seas like a washing machine pushed on. Up at Long Reef we fished in about 20m drifting. The drift was east to west. Probably should have anchored but we managed to find a couple of fish. Finished up with 5 snapper ranging from 35-45cm. Usual rubbish sweep and wrasse stealing baits. Allday, you're right about the odd spew, some of us were a little green around the gills. Butch, there was one boat which managed a big king, I think they were trolling though. Not sure if they were raiders or not. Wasn't fantastic seas but it's always good to get out for a fish.
  18. G'Day all, Thanks for the tips. Going to risk it and see what happens when we get to north head. Jim, I'll be launching at Rose Bay. Boat is a 625 Cruisecraft Explorer. Hopefully have something worth reporting tomorrow night. Dave.
  19. Hi Raiders, I've been reading some reports which have the seas pretty bad at the moment. Any thoughts on a trip tomorrow or should I give it a miss? Thanks. Dave.
  20. Sorry Nathan, missed the question. Shaune is correct, the old ramp is still open.
  21. G'day all, I don't know the distances but I was out at West Reef a couple of months back and saw the maritime guys doing their checks. I went over to them and said I wanted to save them the trouble of chasing me out to East Reef. They didn't require me to have an epirb at West Reef and they did say that East reef was ok but not much further. Hope this helps. Dave.
  22. Thanks. Understand your skepticism Warren. I didn't catch the smaller ones and I had to measure them myself, not that I didn't trust my mate but as the saying goes, all fishermen are liars.... except you and me. I know I left the last bit out but you get the point. As long as they are in the bounds of the rules, I can't tell the guys to throw them back. Working on getting back out there again, chasing the salmon schools are an exciting way to fish....
  23. Hi Raiders, Launched at Rose Bay and headed over to for some livies. Just as we pulled up MT, Lord Rapala, the the team show up. They manage a couple of squid, we just focus on the livies. After getting about 6, we decide to head off. At North head there are about 10 boats chasing the massive salmon schools around. So we jump in too. Jon manages to hook one and it takes him ages to get it in on the 8lb braid. We jump in again only to lose the next 2. So we decide off to Longy. On the first drift, we manage a mowie, a trevor and 2 keeper snapper. On the second drift drift, another keeper snapper and a keeper flatty. We see some more bust ups so we are off again to chase them. Hook up one and have the 8lb screaming off the reel.... turn to chase with the boat only to lose the fish after a few minutes... Great fun but not many fish landed this way, All in all a great day on the water.
  24. G'Day all, Funnily enough I went for a drive to this boat ramp just yesterday (Saturday 03/10/09) doing some recon. Recently moved to the area and checking out where I could launch the boat from. I can confirm the boat ramp is open. Currently 2 lanes. There is some Q&A material there if you stop there. There are a few parking spots there, some of which is fenced off for the ports expansion demountable offices. They reckon nothing with a draft over 1.5m. The wharf/pontoon is still accessible although the pontoon did not seem so balanced.... Otherwise, when the seas settle, I'll give it a lash and let you know how I go. Dave.
