  1. yeh maybe with older motors but with the modern 4strokes even with a motor turning over it doesn't mean it will start had this problem with my 50hp yamaha 4stroke kids left the radio on in the boat but all seemed fine as the motor was turning over so down to the river we went with a motor the was turning over fine enoght we thought but wouldn't start took it back to the dealer pretty upset thinking something was wrong with the motor, he put it on charge over night and the next day when i went it he turned it over and starght away it came to life wasn't untill then i reliase the sound diffrent between the sound of it cranking over the day before and then one was alot slower then after the charge it was like it had a rocket on the starter it was that much faster
  2. only really one in town so pretty easy to sort out

still some good schools up on the mid north coast with on takeing a 5" plastic ment for a snapper that was a real horse
  4. juist spent 3 1/2 days on the waters off the mid north coast sure it was a bit lumpy with 3m swells and a nice stiff wind but it was still fishable found a few snappers and a nice pearly and other fish good times
  5. personaly i use what some would calls as a cheap outfit but works very well i have a shimano tsm4 (speedmaster) and that has 6:1 ratio and i have that on a 24kg 7' uglystick loaded with 80lb braid this does most of my jigging from 15fat (30m) to 90fat (180m) it pays to vary you speeds at time with somedays the king hitting nothing unless cranking the jigs flat out other days wanting more of a slow roll even had them hit the jig mid water with no winding whist trying to take a break
  6. fishing out of coffs harbour in the 4th anuale dave irvine snapper comp
  7. yep but how many times do we see the boats drifting away agree with the checklists but only ever left the bungs out of the boat once and that was when someone else had taken the boat tie downs off to help me and threw me out of whack strange how we get into our little routines and once disturbed things go wrong
  8. personlay when i had a leger boat i always kicked the motor over while on dry land when getting the boat ready of lurnching to make sure she worked (seen too many drifting out from the ramp trying to start a motor that will not start only to need a tow back to the ramp) have asked my marine mach at the time and now another marin mech i use now and both said no dramas with doing it as long as it was say for only a 2sec go to make sure in that time the rubber has not got the time to heat up to start to detorate that showed too as none of my impellas have shown any bad signs of wear as i said 2sec no dramas but yeh i have seen those blokes too that run the motors for a few minutes dry by the way yes you can run the motor in gear whist on the muffs and most moden motors now have rev limiters so you can not over rev it but you can run into the problem that you do not get enoght water into the water pump whist reving the motor on the muffs so you can do damage doing that best thing is to run the motor on the muffs at idel in gear or out of gear
  9. greg you fishing the dave irvine up at coffs?
  10. yeh alot of horses out there thats for sure not my neck of the woods to be fishing but have heard a few decent reports including al macglashan catching a 154kg one and the next day another one got caught at 155.6kg have heard of alot over 100kg so they are on fire down portland port fariy
  11. got to remeber that this size chart is from vic and is more for our southeasten and east coast run of snapper i belive that places like spencer gulf (arno bay) and places like nz the fish may be bigger don't those nz snapper look funky without any humps on their heads
  12. check your messages i have sent a link to a place with GPS marks
  13. Tarwhine (Rhabdosargus sarba) are alot more rounded than a normal bream with a rounded snout they also have 11-12 rays to the anal fin compaired to just 9 or less on a bream they have also got a very distintive stripes running down there sides head-to-tail
  14. i have one from VicTag and it is not all that far off the mark for vic and nsw fish not too sure about NZ fish but anyway by my chart is has 91cm = 8.5kg (18.7lb) 88cm = 7.7kg (16.9lb) and 86cm = 7.2kg (15.87lb)
  15. sounds like your firly cluey biggest thing is early morning or evening make sure to run your parker lights while reversing so anyone else can see also but yeh have ya little mate hold it till you ready i have a length of roap that is three time the length that me and my 7yo use he can hold it or push it out of the way when needed and easly pull it back we have this length so if there is a cross wind we can have one end on the bow and the other on the stern side that has the wind blowing on it that way we can push it out and keep it square as the wind pushes the boat to the trailer so we can winch it on other good thing about this is we can keep presure one the roap to keep the boat square while winching most people are nice at boat ramps and understanding relaxe and enjoy i say
  16. so many people already donate each year and also join VMR groups to fund them many many boat owners fish inland, lakes, and river in small boat that have and never will need these services why shold all pay for a service that is only for half of them be like all cars paying for the upkeep on a service that will only be used in one part of the city it is great for those that will use it but unfair to those that will never have the chance nope this on it totaly unfair a user pay system i'am all for but to slug everyone regardless
  17. thanks for that as i don't alwasy read the news couldn't agree more as i'm one that owns a river only bass style of boat that would have to pay now for something i will never need or use with this boat even when i had a outside boat i already was a member of a VMR group that paid for my registaion ($25/year) where i got a number and they had my details at hand even then i still do and will donate to them once a year
  18. yeh sure no grey nurse sharks have ever been caught on a sopf plastic for a shark that is only numbered in the 500's they sure do turn up here there and everywhere maybe i just have one that follows me around

    Radio Gaga

so the unit in the boat is a 27mhz marine radio and whats the unit in the 4WD UHF or am CB will not work on the same bandwidth as the 27mhz or VHF marine radios
  20. trawlers have and do come across school of jackets during there day to day operation and belive me no twarler would want to take part of this ask the jackets make a compleat mess of the nets only real comercail way to fish jackets is with fish traps and this is hard labour intensive work but seeing a fish trap full of jackets is a sight to be seen normaly run around the traps 3-4 times for a full day so the traps having a 2-3hr soke most of the time a few jackets are stripped down to the bones by the time the traps come up as they often eat each other time between traps is used to cut the heads and guts out of the jackets size and box them into the fish boxes and down into the cold storage rady to be unloaded once back to the co-op when they are one it is not uncommon to pull 1000kg of cleaned fish for the day and times that for the amount of boats doing it (no every pro boat does it) they are one of the best marketable fish just bloody hard work
  21. another worth a try that does the same but is fairy cheap is to replace with a tyrnos30 handle same thing is a bit longer with a better grip and cost about $35
  22. which kink off almost ever township they have a area on the shelf known as the kink and another known as the hole
  23. i wondered this sort of thing myself and i can not see how it could be sure one or two may fall off but i dout as many as it is lead to belive who would ever move things by shipping if there was a chance of your cargo getting dumpped in a storm and could you think of the insurance no insurance company would ever touch this was of shipping i spend some time on the water and may even say i spend more than the average does and never seen a container nor have any of the pro fishermen i know just can't see it happening that much as that would mean they lose money something no compainy likes doing
  24. this is what i'm going on about http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/1032658/police-hunt-hoax-caller sadly does happin and in way it is better that it ends like this than someone lost out there
  25. there was a story in the papers just last week i think where someone had sent out a fake mayday in vic waters and it sounded very simular i would defintly be ringing coastgaurd to find out if it was heard and if it was for real or now gezz i wouldn't be able to sleep
