  1. well done for sure dave i know that feeling and i think many of us go thru those dreaded dry spells one thing we often do however is keep our boat at trolling speed while getting gear in and the rod/s with the fish/es on are the last to be touch very often we get multiable hookups with the stripes but not often more than one seem to stick you lose a bit of line off the reels doing it this way but that only gives you a better angle and tends to make the fish stay high and wear out quicker thus getting the line back is no real drama i hope this is just the beginging for ya again now ya got your groove back
  2. for me both for swimmer and muddies i would say flathead frams followed by blackfish frames most fish frames work but once again match the hatch to the catch so use fish that are found in the system your working in as the crabs will idenitfiy it easy and relate it to their normal diets
  3. personlay i wouldn't relly bother with any of the fads this year as the number if fish that take up residancy on fads are not there this year but trolling along the shelf has seen good number of larger dollies with alot over 15kg and a few upto and over 25kg more dollies have been trolled up trolling the blue water than on fads and traps this year
  4. From what i have heard from a fisherys officer yes they can have the traps as per the laws aslong as they can phiscaly pull the pots themselfs, also you can only pull the pots for the people in the boat (another question i asked him while checking my own pots and he came along checking people checking pots)i had my missus and son in the boat so we were all good to pull our three muddy pots (1 per person types)and we were fine as we were in the boat but when i asked about if i could be pulling them with them at home and i was out for a quick flick his answer was No i could only pull my own pot (that is how i thought it was but no harm checking)
  5. those lines are your fish arches
  6. alot of pro boats (trawl, longline, short line, trappers) out in almost all conditions and for the bigger boats of the fishing fleets they may be out way too far to even worrie about things like storms and squalls i can't say i have heard of any of them being hit by lighting and they have some very big and long arial for the radios on board that would make great lighting rods why this is i can't say nor can i say why you don't hear of boats being hit even if they are moored boats i have also been on rock walls fishing for jewies when lighting storms have rolled over and i have yet to be hit and would say i'm more of a chance of winning the jackpot lotto or being hit by a car while going to work than lighting but boy do the fish really turn it on when storm frounts close in
  7. i would be saying that for that kind of boat then no it is not worth it pratice other kinds of ways to catch the fish main resone i'm saying this is because for that kind of size of motor you would be needing 80lb you would be looking at setting up a twin set of batterys to give you the 24volts needed to run it and right there your starting to add more costs and weight to the bow /stern of your boat this is one resone you don't often see this kind of craft with a electric set up unless they are desinged for the lure fishing like the fancy bass/bay boats go on the drift with a sea anchor
  8. running the trebals or a single hook i run single hooks in my metal slugs and the hook up rates are alot better and more often than not they get pinned in the corner of the mouth so less lost lures
  9. they are asian carp a introduced pest in many american rivers and other rivers around the world they often jump with the sounds of boat motors and are a real danger to skiers, jetskis and even fast boats on the rivers as they have been known to knock people out when hit in the head by one of these high flyers
  10. good question and one i haven't given alot of thought to but i do know it does break over the 30lb that it is rated too at a guess i would be saying up around 40lbs or if you like 20 odd kgs
  11. i have the 30lb whiplash on one of my snapper soft plastic rods and it casts like a treat and IMHO i think it is top line you should regret going it
  12. to post a proper reply that may help you yes a few have been getting caught up north of sydney mainly from the edge of the shelf and out beyond with them sitting in some nice warm current like 24.5*c and that is pushing in slowly so i would expect the dollies to start sitting on the fishery fad and wave recorders within the next month
  13. anything that floats on the surface or just below it can be called a fad of some sort but yes in genral fads are just a big buoy with a rope down to a anchor system why don't people make their own we some people do however it is against the law to do so and is classed as polution/litter/dumping so getting caught with one could cause some pain
  14. used pretty much all of them and alot do work well all the time smelt rainbow new penny lime tiger nuke chook the two new ones that are definlty winner thus far but are the prawn and vader
  15. yeh i would also say it is a while off yet fads up north have been deployed for a couple of weeks now and are still clean of any groth we have had bugger all dollies inside the shelf up this way too most are still either just on or out from the shelf but what are being found are all 10kg+ with the best i have heard of going 23.5kg just be careful if trolling out over the shelf if running light for dollies as there are a number of BIG blues out there too
  16. agree with that too i use many but for my bream and bass and even snapper gear i'm now running abu soron's game gear is still a mix of shimano and penns
  17. i know that not much this happins up north and even if you do hire the so called local guns you still have to find the fish and i think we all know the finsing and angleing marlin is alot diffrent to tossing slices into a gutter at a beach for taylor i also know i would be calling it skull draging a 70-90kg marlin on 37kg it sure has never been that easy when i have hooked one marlin at all sizes can give a angler a fair bit of curry
  18. i don't reply too much on this site but i read things often i have comented on other sites voiceing my dislike to the new pointscore and it is good to see other now getting there dislike out there too as said here from the NQLD comp now in nsw really to be in the hunt for T&R comp you will need to run 10kg gear to get max point and try and hunt out the smaller fish sure would want to fish over the shelf or on the shelf where you may get a blue and sure wouldn't run anything over 24kg gear only to lose points for doing so sure is a hell of a diffreance between 12500 for running 10kg gear on smaller marline to 7500 for runing 60kg gear and tagging a 150kg blue while out looking for a grander thats a lose of 5000 points
  19. cheers for that yeh i know you have alot of member on here that fish the dams for these great fish and i love reading about the fishing on the dams
  20. what about bass reports from places like st clair and glenbourn the close session is in river only and does not include dams
