  1. don't think the thickness is all that important more important is what are you wanting to go chase with it?? no point useing nice thin light line if your chaseing some butes that love liveing on the hard reefs because you will need more stopping power than anything that said if it is things like snapper then yeh you can get away with light thin line so yeh more to do with what your wanting to chase
  2. yeh well at 8 years old he sure is not old enoght to be playing on the internet yet so he will not becoming a member this fish of the moutn rubbish is bloody hard so dout i will even bother any more
  3. bit hard foshing at the mo with the recent rains that said all the floating rack should have a few nice bream on them and ferther up closer to macksville either side of the main road bribge you can normaly find a few nice bream and small GT's that go hard most bends will hold some flatties on them too it is a pretty good river around there that doesn't get fished all that hard unlike some of the other ones like the hastings manning ect
  4. therds like this one that makes me miss my dagger difter kayak and gives me more reason to look at a 2man canoe for me and my son now fishing from a boat is great most of the times but nothing like getting up in the skinny waters in a paddle powered machine
  5. second that thats the set up i have right now with the struddie bluewater 10-15kg spin and a stradic 5000 that said any reliable spin reel around that size will balance it nicely so i would say the daiwas, shimanos or abu soron's one thing i will say for sure THESE SET UPS ARE TOO MUCH FUN!
  6. yeh stripe marlin come in pretty close to shore and are often the ones that get mixed up with blues however without seeing it i can put it pass being a black either that love hanging around bait fish and over reefs my best guess but would be on a stripe marlin but yeh aren't they just great to see mate of mine had a stripe hit a knife jig while jigging up north hear last year saw it do one good jump with the jig in it's mouth but broke the lightish leader
  7. it is for only sweetwater fish comeon where the salties
  8. ray as a deal to buy the rod and reel the missus said one was for me and one was the young fellas for xmas and as it happined tha was his one he chose from the two that he got that on they will mainly be for the bigger blues out there and most of the time he woun't be on them rods but every now and then we may put him onto the rod with the right fish just so he starts to get used to the heavy tackle
  9. a couple of the boys fishing on the weekend took some photo just like that of these that were spat out of a Mahi Mahi that was caught i remebers i had seen them here but couldn't remeber what they were named
  10. went fishing with the son and crew for our monthy comp and also to blood in a couple of new outfits i brought my chance was fish with a nice mahi mahi but lost that to another fish that wanted it more then i did but didn't lose any gear and my new rod and reel worked fine so i was still happy next to lose a fish was out newly moved up adult getting late in the day and an order of fish to fill hope was getting lost but my oher new rod and reel came to life with another mahi mahi puting my son the small fry into the fighing chair he did a great job lifting the big penn international 80vsw and rod out of the holder to put it into the fighting gimble worked the rod and reel like a champ and put us all to shame when we sunk the gaff into a nice 10+kg dollie all happy fish for tea and both new outfits got a run p.s. not sure if this will be allowed into the fish of the month thingy as he is not yet old enoght to be a member himself so i do all that for him
  11. did the same sort of thing with my quinny put 4 ss rod holder in i made sure they all had the rubber backing on them and also used dulac (the joining compond stuff) been a few years now and no dramas at all with them i also know of other people the put a bit of wood inbetween and that helped riase them up and ment none of that two diffrent metals touching things going on
  12. I promise you that will be one of the best things you can do they will love it and even the driver has a blast as watching is half the fun
  13. personaly i ahte seeing people keep fish not knowing if they are or not eatable however i belive all rays are safe and think you must of thought the same anyways i have heard all diffrent things about rays but never had them myself one of the more baziar ones was from a bloke i was in the army with who told me when he was a kid they would catch stingrays and useing a hole saw of some sort would cut circles out of the wings and then go around and sell them to the restrunts as cleaned scollops let us know who you get on and what it eats like if you could
  14. had kneeboarder who weighed 110kg get pulled behind a 4.1 and a 50hp four banger and that was a in water start also tubed behind a 4.4 with a 40hp 2stoke i would have to say you would be fine and have fun
  15. as other have said it is so the hook lays inline with the lure instead of being a 90* to the lure i don't mind those lure singles hook but i just chose to run the SL12s instead
  16. yeh i do that with all my metal lures in fact not only is it better for catch and release you will find you will have a better hook up rate and the fish find it harder to free the hook what i did was use two split ring in the tail so the hook sat straght and used he gamma sl12s in a 1/0 you will not be disapointed if you do this thas for sure and like me wonder why i took you so long to do it
  17. the cruisers are well known for sure and hard to knock i have heard alot of bad from jeeps towing never owned one myself but a family member has and it wouldn't be my pick personaly i would be going the new one for sure and it doesn't need to be just the BT50 there are other out there too like the D-Max or colorado personlay i have a D-Max but have not got a largish boat i'm towing but it does have 3000kg braked towing and with the 3l intercooled turbo diesel it have the power and fule economy
  18. pretty sure i never said anything about winning FOTM no biggie for me just expaining it to others that have asked sorry if i upset anyone by this
  19. yeh thanks all est estimated weight was 150kg-160kg with a rought short bill length of 250cm shame i couldn't get some keys in the pic as the fish has been taken off the catch of the month comp but with releasing it bringing it on board was not a option and i sure didn't like the feeling of hanging my keys over the side of the boat in 500fathom of water the lure was a bule yellow and green macgoo that was run on a long shotgun
  20. Nah the MNC part of the heading stands for Mid North Coast (up off numbucca) yeh it is not uncommon for marlin to eat the toads, it is belived the toads have a reaction on them like is getting tippsy if that is true or no i just don't know but atleast is sounds good
  21. yeh i have a soron stx40 also like many other it seems i was lucky enoght to get one a few years ago when they were first comeing out and the reel has not let me down ever over time as my oher wear ou i will also replace them with the sorons that said they are a small made reel with the 40 feeling like a 2500 type size so the 60's are not that big a reel either way you end up going i think you should be happy
  22. fishing sunday out at the shelf and jus past is first it was out to some bait grounds to find it loaded up with slimies and horse size ones at that a quick 20 or so in the bait tank saw us head off to the FAD to see if any rat dollies were home for our small fry to have some fun with no joy and no current so signs early were not with us we pushed out to the 70fath line before we put the rods and lures in for a swim and not more than 10mins after setting the last corner up the long rigger cracks and line comes screeming off with both me and the skip calling it for a marlin the way it hit but our keen eyed jrn cleared that up telling us he saw it and it was a dollie (good we wanted a feed anyway) short little fight on 24kg gear saw us with a dollie boat side within 10min and the gaff was sunk in boating a nice doll of around 12kg now the signs were looking up again after a few more hours of trolling i saw what first looked like a small tuna nudgeing the shottie however that turned out to be the top of a marlin head after takeing the lure so softly however it decided to turn the water 100m behind us into a frothing foam white wash thrashing and jumping and cart wheeling all over the place after we cleared most of the deck the jrn asked if i wanted this one and i said 'Yeh why not' being a wussied boy i climed into the chair but only useing the gimble base and no harness first up after the marlin had sorted itself out with makeing the water into foam it then took off and off and off empting half the spool pretty quick like on 37kg gear lucky for us it seemed to want to stay close the surface doing this so with some backing down and danceing from the skipper on the wheel we got back half of what it took before it tryed going down once again we got up current from it and drove off bringing it back to the surface to try it all again (hmm 30min in and now my arms could do with a break so i thought i better ask for a harness) ok my arms had a small break and we were still at it, the marlin dows down we loop drive off around and dance some more about 45mins in and he finaly get the double up almost there! UMMMM no the marlin does it again we get the double up a ferther 5 time during the next 30min but the marlin is getting tired even more even thou it's head shakes are nice and stonge after 1hr 35min we finaly get the double onto the reel and the wind-on within reach to finaly pull it up those last couple of meters and a nice clean tag shot before some pic time funny enoght as we got it to the boat side it opened it's mouth and our came a green toadfish that must of just been eaten proveing that they will still eat once hooked
  23. you say you have high speed reel and your cranking them flat out well personaly i would say mix up the speed when your seeing them a bit sometime flatout is fine but other time a slower rolling retrive better suits them
  24. half right in a way and on paper i guess but honestly we fish anywhewre up to 50fath with the 200hz and only go to 50hz went going resanalby deep 50fath--90fath and 1kw if doing deep deep 2-5km off the coast you should still be in under 15fath so should have any dramas

fishing of nambucca a while ago we lost an anchor to one of the reefs (nothing too new really) we tryed everything for a while (was doing an over nighter and wanter to move to another section of the reef) the anchor yanka just couldn't free it and each time we tryed a littler diffrent angle and all that to the point that the boat was getting turned back around (thats how well stuck it was)we even had another boat that was fishing with us try in the morning after we cut it off and tired a few bouys onto it. They were in a 24footer and still couldn't get it to move (we belive it got wedged down in a crevice on the reef) funny part was a couple of months ago and after 8months gone my mate was fishing down there again fishing when he had one of his lines wrap around some rope the wound in nice and easy so to not to lose the rig and after seeing it was his rope he tryed again and it popped out as easy as anything and scored back his anochor so even if they did something a tad rude they may of not even relised but i know how it is to have an achor not let go heres one for you all but 'you lose your anchor whist fishing on a reef (bad enoght more $$$ to pay out for a new one) as your comeing back inside to go home or even at the boat ramp your stopped and have a safty check done, what do you thinki the chance would be that you would be able to get off for not haveing the anchor as part of your safty items?? should we be thinging of haveing two for the odd times like this? techinacly i guess you could be done for not haveing all your safty equipment'
