That sunrise is worth a million bucks and looks like a glass out.

Nice bag of fish too, the fish have been very spread out lately. Which in honesty is probably a good thing. If they're all in the one spot then it's a function of luck whether you come across them !

Yep was about as good as it gets.   We collected live slimies early on to head out wider for kings but didn’t end up doing that.   Plenty of moving about in that bag of fish all on the drift.   I would of liked to try anchoring and see burley to see if that changes things.

A nice feed there (except for the mowie  ). The larger reddie is a good eating size.

Funny Dave filleted, crumbed and cooked the lot no one mentioned they had a dodgy tasting bit!

  2. Some friends moved down the coast over a rear ago and we had struggled to find time for a visit.  This weekend was our chance and as luck would have it Dave is also a keen fisho and the weather was looking good.

We headed out from Crookhaven heads and managed to pick up a nice feed of reds.    The first fish caught by Dave very soon after arriving.  Naturally thought we were in for a cracking day but the fishing was rather slow with not much caught in between.

The weather was very kind and we had a great day on the water.   Another bonus was getting out on another boat with an experienced fisho to learn a few more things.

  3. I have the Telwater scuppers  with the squash ball in them and had no issue at all.  The older version with the stupid rubber flap on my previous boat just did not work and the dealer didn’t even attempt to fix them under warranty after asking at service time.    We sealed them up.

It can't be said enough Scratchie is a gun fisherman and an even bigger gentleman.

Glad to see you got out and had some action that's fishing success stories mixed in with donuts.

Saturday was 10/10 down in Sydney and I couldn't find a fishing buddy on short notice so I stayed home. Took the kids to the Merrylands nature reserve to see the emus and wallabys but was daydreaming about the water the whole time.

I was out on Saturday for my forth trip this year all by myself so far.  Sometimes I plan to fish alone but this week the few I asked has things on.    I went looking for snapper without much joy a couple of stuff ups put a bit of a downer on a great day on the water.

Thanks for the replies & ideas.

Google search ‘chiller fish bag’. Can get them in various sizes. I’ve got  the micro, 80cm.

Great. Good quality & slides nicely under my back seat freeing up valuable space.

Great idea! We were unweighted & found it difficult to hook em.

Thanks, kid’s’ll be happy to keep the extra gummies :)

I have been tossing up between a bigger esky or the midi+ bag. If I get one I will most like get it from the marine rescue store.

Interesting comments, surprised people seem to think that they shutdown at night? Snapper are certainly one species I can't claim to have figured out as I have had only limited results chasing them. From what I have seen as by-catch chasing jew and on the few trips I have seriously targeted them the undersized fish certainly seem to shut down at night but the better fish still seem to bite.

On top of my personal experience I've had one mate who had great success over the years bait fishing for bigger snapper at night time. Also, if anyone every watched the youfish tv series tat used to be on channel 32 those guys were in Victoria but pretty much exclusively fished for them at night and certainly had them pretty well figured out.

    Cheers,

    Rich

Funny I thought night time was good for them ever since reading a magazine write up as a kid.  Pretty sure that was far north NSW.

Youfish is my favourite fishing show.

Its hardly like Whales are going to get tangled up in them when its just a single line under reasonable tension. Only times I've ever seen whales tangled  in news it has been in shark nets or similar. Either way, I wrote to DPI so will be interested to see how they respond.

They are pretty good to speak to.  The guy I emailed earlier in the season from DPI phoned me.   He was very informative explaining what he is in control of and what he isn’t and the quickest updated sites ( the app not the website) with info.

We use 20lb braid mainline and 20lb fluorocarbon leader when throwing sps. During winter you can up the leader to 30lb but even then you win some and lose some. So we generally stick to 20lb.

As rick said for kings it’s lottery!

Sometimes if the fish ain’t biting I’ll drop my leader size to 15 or 10lb just to entice the bite.

This will all depend on current, bait, structure and the area I fish! So it’s more of a constant of knowing your surroundings.

    Motto: “just keep casting”

    Cheers scratchie!!!

What kind and size of SPs are generally the go?   I haven’t used SPs on snapper but I’m keen to give it a crack.

It’s a 4 lane ramp and there’s plenty of trailer parking, particularly in off peak times. If the sand has built up and not been cleared by council, it can get a bit tricky at dead low. I haven’t been down to check it for a while now but it was fine when I used it just before Easter. No doubt, Scratchie will advise as he uses it a lot more than me. I often use Soldiers Point ramp as I live midway between both and SP has two pontoons which make it easier (and drier 😂) when launching solo. At Little Beach, I have to pull the boat up on the beach, if I don’t have crew to drive the boat or park the car. Of course, it is a longer run to the heads from SP. Hope that helps.

Thank you the ramp sounds good.

I considered staying at SP as a mate has a unit there, but little beach looks easier.
