  1. I haven’t read it but I am really annoyed with politicians meddling at the moment.

The fishing lockouts, the mismanagement of the Murry-Darling, the proposed Cruise Terminal at Yarra Bay, rampant developments and general nanny state treatment, it’s a completely crazy with little regard for the people.  Their policies and motives completely contradict each other.

I do think things would improve with minimising immigration and population growth though.  I generally support the LNP but can’t even get a reply to phone calls, messages, emails or letters to the local member. Labour will pander to the greens no good choices....

I don't/haven't fished the bay, and have been wondering the same for a while now...

I've worked off my assumption that if the Pro-Fisho's aren't in there, that it would be for similar reasons why they're not in the harbour?

Haven't found anything documented that supports this though...

My understanding is the pros aren’t in Sydney harbour due to the dolioxins.    They reason they stopped fishing the bay was a buyout when the fishing licence came out.

I would be curious to know if sampling and testing and the information it provides would be different if it was a commercial fishery.

sorry winch strap still attached in photo, please disregard this as it's on trailer for these photos.

Now boat is ready to drive off.

When you return and want to put boat back on trailer, attach spring and the square piece of catch will be in upright position as in photo 1. Now drive boat on trailer and as you get close the spring allows the catch to slide down the bow holder ( want of better word ) till you hear a loud click which is the square piece of catch hitting home in full upright position.

You can now back off throttle and allow boat to slide back a couple of inches and catch securely and turn off motor tilt up and get out of boat . Put winch strap on and winch up last couple of inches and secure safety chain.

I might add that this catch also acts as a back up safety chain IF for some reason your chain comes loose.

Hope this explains it to those interested. And I am open to PM's for any questions or enquiries.

Great work Frank.   Thanks for taking the time to take the photos and post it.

Back in the day when I got my licence there was no water test, Think for memory I got mine at a fishing/camping show in Penrith, just filled in the questionnaire and licence issued on the spot. A few years later a mate had to go into town and sit a test with a board with waterways images and he had to navigate a toy boat around the coarse as well as answer all the questions, think then you could get 3 wrong, which makes me think that IF you get 3 wrong you don't really know what you are doing ?.

Anyhow this doesn't help you decide which way to go at this present time and I'm afraid I can't help you in that way.

How's the new boat, send some photos via email.

    Frank

I got to play boats too.

Sure did.   Was a nice day on the water even without fish.   Lots of boats out though.

Good work in finding a legal one amongst the rats.

I was hoping the full live squid and downrigger might improve my chances of not getting rats.  I paid off just!

Nice work! Always great fun to tangle with. Target

    cheers scratchie!!!

It is good to target the squid and kings and  find them both.

  7. The bow riders really are great all rounders  for the family.   No doubt there are better boats specialized for each activity. They are to beat for the all purpose boat.

I had a 5.3 Quintrex freedom sport millennium hill with a 115 Yamaha saltwater for probably 11 years.   My current boat is a 5.7 Stacer easy rider with 150 HO Etec which is probably about 4.

Both are great boats.  Comparing the two the quintrex is more stable and the stacer smoother riding and sportier without compromising the stability to much.   So if I had a choice I’d lean towards the Stacer.

We never had an issue with the Yamaha but the newer tech Etec is just awesome.   I recommend max horsepower on either hull.

Telwater could improve attention to detail a lot, the little things let them down somewhat.   If I was buying new now I’d be looking towards some of the plate boats that are now doing bowriders as well.

I have had mine out to the port hacking fad around 20 ks, the peak, 12 mile and down from port hacking past the humps off the sea cliff bridge about 20-25ks I think.   One particular day I did around 100km off shore running around.  It’s just a matter of checking the weather.   Obviously fibreglass or plate boats would ride through the chop better.

I have the 2016 Stacer 539 Easy Rider and for a family of 5 we find it excellent. The high side are great for little kids nice and safe.

its a bit bouncy in chop if you are loaded and going a bit fast you will get wet. But trimnitbup and slow down and it’s fine although still bump compared to a fiberglass.

spending days on the Harbour and swimming at some of the beaches in the Harbour, Hawkesbury and Port Stephens is where the Bowrider really perfoms well. The kids love being able to sit at the front and watch the siblings or friends being towed on the donut. The wife likes sitting at the front at Port Stephens while we watch the dolphins play or shoot down to Tea Gardens for fish and chips.

The 539 is Lic for 7 which is great when the kids are under 12 as I can have my family plus another on board.

As for fishing I haven’t taken mine out the heads due to early engine issues which after a change of Mechanics has finally resolved. But 3 friends have similar boat (2015 Stacer 540, Quintrex 610 and Quintrex 490) and we have been out a few KM of Sydney and Jervis bay and the high side sides handle the chop really well and great stability. I do recommend a bow cover when under way as it helps if it does turn bad to keep water out of the boat. It’s the same hull as the centre console and they go way out.

i can solo launch very easy, even did it 5 weeks after a ACL replacement without drama and now my 12yr has her Lic, I just reverse down she drives it off and I park the trailer.

Drive on is just as easy but winching is also easy as it aligns itself and is lite, especially good at low tide boat ramps.

Engine choice like GM v ford, it’s personal choice, I have a 115 Etec and I loved it at first then had some issues for about 30hrs due to the mechanic dealer, now with a different dealer the last 20hrs back to excellent. my mates has a 150 Honda 100 Suzuki and another has 130 Etec all 3 going well.

Good storage and I have a bait boat Ski pole custom made so I don’t have to switch between the two.

i Tow with a Ford Ranger as it’s effortless but also Tow with a 2wd (front) Nissan Pathfinder and it also doesn’t have a drama even on slippery / sandy Ramos as the front wheel are usually on clean concrete.

make sure you get the biggest you can handle if you have a big family otherwise like me you will start looking to upgrade. Wife wants bigger now the kids are 12yr + She like something like a 28ft to 38ft ha ha

Switching between the ski pole and bait board sure is annoying.

  9. I have been hanging for months to get out for a fish in the boat and today was it.   I had an appointment with my daughter early in the arvo so i quick solo session it was.   Although it would of been an hour longer had I set my alarm for AM instead of PM🤦‍♂️.

I was on the water by 6:30 and managed a couple of squid pretty quick bit that turned out to be all I got in the two hours.

I had plans of converting them into a king downrigging.    The first squid produced a rat king about 60cm that put up a good fight amongst the moorings before giving up.

I didn’t have long so put out my bigger second squid whole as well.  After losing his head he got hit with a solid hook up.   Turned out to be slightly bigger at 67cm and the second hook foul hooking it.   With dinner sorted I was off the water by 11.

  10. Yes mate you will get them near the moored boats there.  Just burley up with chicken pellets and mashed up pillies.    I usually use a three hook Sabiki with some small bait like pillies.  I like to have a bit of wait on the bottom of the rig maybe the size of two peas.  Catching bait always seems easier before sun up.

You will also occasionally catch pillies there too.

Hey guys, been playing with the idea of doing some shark beach fishing, however, I haven't yet because I have struggled to find bait big enough for sharks. I know salmon are good for sharks but where I am we don't catch many of those. What we do catch a lot of is shovelnose sharks. Are these a protected species in nsw? has anybody tryed using them as bait? Pls let me now.

    cheers - pugz
