  1. Just a quick question

what is the best sounder brand or sounder that you can buy. like what is the shimano stella of sounders

i have some one who is looking to buy one around the 3K mark, which should be a pritty good sounder at that price.

    any help will be great

    Furuno GP7000 - Chart Plotter / Sounder 7" screen.

Bought them last year for my work boats - excellent NZ$2750 with chartcard - have them networked with the Nav Net radar.

    Super quality

  2. When out of nowhere a pack of six KILLER WHALES decides to eat our fish like its a seaworld show ....

our fish are attacked again by KILLER WHALES all we end up with is one head and a mangled blueye. . . post-692-1210368833_thumb.jpg

I think I would have had to change my undies after that experience. :hitsfan:

Crikey, imagine if they decided to target your boat? :byebye:

  3. [Hi Raiders,

Justing sitting here watching tele and surfing the net and I glanzed over in the corner of my lounge room and thought that's got to be worth a snap.

Am I the only one with a clump of gear in my lounge room ???????

It started off with a king fish outfit from march, a new blackfish rig and 8 trout outfits.

Is it getting out of hand ??

    Cheers

    Roffo

Why waste money on furniture when you can adorn your loungeroom with useful knick knacks.

I think the wall unit needs to go. :074::074:

  4. Hi guys,

Just been looking for some split ring pliers on line. There are so many to choose from.

Going to try and jig some winter kings over the next few months and need a good pair of split ring pliers to change jigs and to rig up.

Anyone have any pointers as to what features/brands I need to look for ? Some of the pliers have the split ring tip while others like the prohunter/ duels have them in the middle of the blade. Which is better or easier to use?

I like the look of the pro hunter pliers (look like knock offs of the expensive Duel pliers) but wonder if they will be the same as the originals  ?

    Evets

I just ordered these Duel Pliers for $80.00. Should be here next week.

Tired of buying the shitty cheap ones. They keep going off centre and are useless.

These Penn ones sell for about $10.00

Also these Diawa ones. Sell for $60.00

When your trying to re-rig trebles or the like, the last thing you want is to have pliers that fail you.

Last cheapies I bought I threw in the creek - can be frustrating?

  5. Would a flattie go for a legal sized whiting put out as live bait? I wouldn't have thought they would go for something that size?? I guess if it was a monster flattie a legal whiting would be fair game. I've caught flatties on yakkas before but I've never tried using something the size of a legal whiting as live bait.

Thats not a bad idea. Cheers,

    Graham

Don't know what the rules are there with regards to using undersize fish for live bait.

I used to use whiting and mullet that were not "keepers" and the lizards hammered them.

  6. I have not heard of the stuff Mariner suggested so can not comment on that,

    Cheers,

    Huey.

    G'day Huey,

I used to buy Comprox from BP service stations to wash my car and boat - never flushed the engine with it though. They had it in a 200 litre drum and you paid for it by the litre. Was very "soft" and left no residue on either boat or car. I bought some here last month in a 5 litre container but it was of a consistency similar to water. The original was thick like a heavy oil and gave excellent results.

  7. we have unfortunately done alot of damage in quite a few locations and we can only hope weve learned from these issues and can salvage things over time... cheers...steve......

I lived on the Georges River at Illawong for 20 years, up to 1984. Then Illawong had very few houses and a small population. From Illawong to the Woronora Bridge there was not more than 20 houses and a few farms in between. My god - look at it now. The old ferry at Lugarno ceased operation in 1972, it carried 15 cars.

Anyway, back then (god that makes me feel old) you could catch pretty well any species, in large quantity any time of the day or night - that was when you could catch a good Jewie at Jewfish Point.

Bream, Flatties, Flounder, Whiting, Tailor, Soul, Jackets, Whiting, Jewies, Trumpeters, Good size muddies, squid, prawns, oysters, cockles, small snapper, mullet, gar - just to name a few.

My folks moved to Central Coast and the daily fishing jaunts ended. Years later I had a weekend session on the Georges, fished every spot that I had come to know so well in my early days there. Can you believe it - over a two day period I caught 1 Fortesque (in my favourite Blackie spot) and nothing else.

The reports I read on this forum indicate that there has been a reversal of that situation. I guess that Fishing limits and pollution control has had a factor in this.

What are your thoughts on this?

  8. I also squirt a small amount of Morning Fresh dishwashing liquid in behind the ear muffs. I'm told it's suppose to help keep the impellor lubed. Don't know if that's true or not.

    Cheers

    Deek

Try BP Comprox - great for washing the car and boat also

  9. Icestorm photos always amaze me. Amazing damage they can cause.

Several years ago overseas we were stuck inside a house for days while all the electricity lines were made safe, roads ploughed. Had 6 neighbours camped in as we had a oil fired boiler and a wood fire. Only house in the street not to have roof damage due to weight of ice as we had the fire stoked up adn it was a thatch roof. So odd when you went outside as there was no noise except ice cracking now an then and tree branches giving was as more mist froze on them. Grass actually snapped in half when you walked on it.

So glad I don't live in that climate and to see it on ships with salt water and them out with staem hoses - not for me- Honiara cliumate sound so much better.

Is this what your talking about?

Some more pics for you Pel

  10. The good old last cast!

I have spent many an hour on the 'last cast'

    Never a truer word spoken.

    Excellent lizards

The whiting would have been good for live bait - nothing like a flattie smacking a livie!

  11. :1fishing1: Jeremy and I have been out chasing whitting on worms with some nice feeds coming home.

:04: Jeremy requested a change to plastic before the bite stopped.

:pokey: just put the Craw on the same hook". Who was I to argue, less rigging for me

:whip: he smacked my bottom 9-3 on the flatties including his new 60cm PB!

 BLOODY HELL it pulls bream to!

:icon_peace: Jeremy's lure choice, Gulp Craw in Punkin Seed.

:1worthy: he landed 13 legal fish on 1 packet.

I think I would like to hire Jeremy as my fishing guide - Step aside Rex Hunt!

Fantastic effort, great result and fine looking specimens.

Fit for you to take them to school for "Show & Tell" :074:
